Even though you need more energy to get a 29er wheel up to speed - it's not much more when you are out on the trail, because of it's size a 29er wheel is going to over rather than into everything from roots to large stones. The 26er wheel is going to lose energy every time it has to go up and over an obstacal that a 29er wheel is going to go over. So the loss of speed is less on a 29er wheel on a bumpy bit of track than on with a 26er wheel. When you look at 29er race wheels compared to 26er race wheels you can now get a reasonbly priced 29er race wheel at 1650 grams a set and a no holds bared set down to 1380. Same sort of weights as for 26ers. Tyres for 29ers 650 grams down to 500 odd grams. Next year there will be 29er race tyres in the mid 400's for 29ers. Kiwi2009-12-04 09:22:29

  8. Another option is going 29er, it's like getting about 1" rear suspension to soften the bumps but you still get all the benefits of a HT. I have Scandal 29ers with a full SRAM X9 groupsets and Rock Shox Reba Team forks for R17,637 available in 16", 18", 19.5" I also have the 26er version available in 18" and 20" starting at R16,347 with a full SRAM X9 groupset Cheaper options available as well!   16. The American Classics are a good weight for the money (1650grams), got'em for R4273.58 on our website at the moment. On One will have carbon fibre 29er rims next year, they will be cheaper than whats out there at the moment that's for sure!

  18. More info: The 456 gets the 11/8-1.5 steerer and Ballistic Kevlar/Carbon treatment. The 29er (Lurcher) is getting Flax/Carbon technology and has SRAM XX in mind BB92 etc? The Whippet has gone Carbon and is being refined to RACE weight? They ALL have the swap-out dropouts so are SS friendly.Kiwi2009-11-20 23:49:52
