  1. Keith, these should be in our hands Tuesday all being well: RST F1rst Platinum RL XC Fork with Remote Lockout, 100mm travel for 26ers, Disc Only, should be around: R3444.62
  2. I'd love to see the tubes and BB bits etc being made.
  3. Some are pure carbon, some have an alloy I-beam down the middle and some are carbon wrapped alloy. Same goes for the spider. Not everything made of carbon is lighter or stiffer.
  4. Yeap, on the first two days 15 motorists in Joburg were taken in for driving on the wrong side of the road, jumping traffic lights etc 14 of them were taxis...

  6. Check this out: a 29er Carbon Single Speeder: http://twentynineinches.com/2008/04/02/superfly-single-speed/ http://www.crookedcog.com/gallery/d/9203-1/superfly-ssfullframe.jpg http://www.crookedcog.com/gallery/d/11095-2/CarbonSingleSpeed_PPT.jpg
  7. 29er race bikes are nearly as light as the equivalent 26er. The Gary Fisher Super Fly Carbon 29er frame is 1250 grams. A set of American Classic 29er wheels is 1600 grams. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> So that leaves forks Reba Team 29er Forks 2009 are 1610 to 1745 depending on model. Tires, Kenda Nevegal DTCs weigh in at 1644 grams a pair on my scales, 26er Nevegals are about 1470 grams a pair. So overall not that much difference now. I have a copy in PDF format of a On One Inbred 26er vs On One Inbred 29er test with the same specs from What Mountain Bike 2006 if any one wants I can email it to you, just drop me a PM. It shows the pros and cons of both formats. Pro race 29er: http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech/2008/probikes/?id=sam_schultz_gary_fisher_superfly08 Kiwi2009-03-04 01:27:09
  8. You will see some more of the big name manufacturers producing 29ers this year. Giant is releasing one soon so you will soon see some of their sponsored riders racing them. http://www.crookedcog.com/gallery/d/11430-2/XTC_29er_sketch1b.jpg http://www.crookedcog.com/gallery/d/11434-2/XTC_29er_sketch2b.jpg http://twentynineinches.com/2009/02/27/giant-xtc-29er-sneak-peek/Kiwi2009-03-03 12:26:20
  9. The bigger wheels of a 29er have a bigger contact patch on the ground, so you get more grip when climbing.
  10. They are definitely organised crime. I have had it from some one who knows so to speak that Taxis are a common way of making criminal gains into legal ones. They buy taxis with their gains!
  11. https://www.sigmasport.co.uk/app/secure/ProductDetails.aspx?FamilyID=2177 R37,413.16 Lightweight GIII STANDARD CLINCHER WHEELS Price: ?2,642.49 (RRP ?2,700.00) Sizes: Campagnolo, Shimano The Lightweight Standard C wheelset is based on our proven ?Standard? model. It has been designed for use with wire bead or folding tires. To achieve best possible results we have redesigned the entire rim. FIRST DELIVERY DUE MID MARCH Lightweight Standard C wheels come with all technical innovations of our current Generation III wheels. The new all-carbon spokes and the direct bonding of spokes, rim and hub is taken over from our ?Standard? and ?Obermayer? wheels. New is the rim: It has to be light and stiff like on all our wheels; additionally, the sidewall must meet extreme physical demands. Tire pressure and brake calipers both put large lateral forces on the sidewall. Add to that the heat created by braking from high velocities, and you have quite a task for the engineering department. Carbon fibers excel at withstanding longitudinal forces, and the poor heat transfer capability of carbon fiber materials let temperatures rise quickly, possibly leading to problems both at the rim and for the pad compound. We employ a special temperature resistant resin enveloping our high-tensile fibers to easily meet these demands. No rim tape is needed, further reducing overall weight. Didn't armstrong win a race recently on a 29er? I think the guy who came 4th was on a rigid single speed 29er https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=36722&KW=

    29er

Not many Euro Pros on them yet but they are big on the US Pro circuit, Gary Fisher and Kona have had wins this year on the NORBA circuit in the US.
  21. I'm sorry, I don't have much love for the oil companies. Look at the mess they make in the name of a profit! Speaking of which don't forget Shell recently turned over $27 Billion profit or $3 million a minute http://www.americablog.com/2008/01/shell-posts-record-profit-3-million-per.html http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-178430809.html If they get to production, this will be my next car: http://www.optimalenergy.co.za/about/ Made right here in SA (hopefully!)Kiwi2008-12-07 08:21:19
  22. I'm trying to remember the name of the site that has all sorts of aero data on it. You pay a subscription or per article but they have all sorts of wind tunnel data. Some free info from John Cobb, he gets a bit cagy when it gets down to the details as this info cost up to $1500 per hour to learn in a wind tunnel but it's a good insight: http://www.blackwellresearch.com/articles.htm Also here: http://www.analyticcycling.com/RiderAeroStudy.html the info about drink bottles is very interesting!Kiwi2008-12-05 00:46:54
  23. At 40km/h 90% of a rider?s energy is used up by aero drag. Aero drag is very relevant to every cyclist.Kiwi2008-12-04 08:47:34
