After all of this talk about riser bars I have purchased a carbon Easton Monkeylite SL. It is very used and in quite a state but I can see the potential! Have already started sanding and scraping... under that black Easton paint is matt carbon goodness and it is a wonderful to behold. I am going to leave it "naked" (matt and unpainted) and instal it onto my Anthem...

So is X9 "better" (or an improvement on) Shimano SLX?

Hi I am looking at upgrading my new bikes shifters and derailers to a full X9 setup (going from Alivio and Deore). Please can the owners of X9 gripshifters and derailers please post some reviews. My other option is Shimano SLX

11.2kg for a dual is quite light, my anthemX is thereabout and I have changed quite a lot... but then again, it is alloy... Awesome bike dude!

I agree that if the bikes are used for different purposes (XC, trail etc) then they ought to have different setups. I have a flatbar on my 26er and love it... but then it is my race day bike whereas the AL329 is a spare fun bike. Thanks for everyone's input.

Wow... some super intelligent comments here... Cockpit = stem, bars, seatpost, seat I am wondering why the reviewers kept on commenting negatively to bikes that had riser bars... If you have nothing of value to add then dont add anything.

In the Bicycling Mag this month they have a 29er shootout where they review a few 29ers. Most of the reviews comment on the need for a flatbar and a shorter stem. Is this the 'accepted' setup on a hardtail 29er?

I am waiting for my Momsen AL329 to arrive... going to use it purely as a training/fun/communter bike.... My Anthem X (weight this morning with new cranks 11.2kg ) is my race bike. I cant wait to take delivery of my new steed.

Right... I come from a motorsport background and have some delicious and VERY expensive fully synthetic brake fluid just lying around... Now... Can I use it in my Shimano SLX hydro brakes?

I have never been a fan of that triple triangle design... I do like the ghosted graphics though... I am busy saving for my AL329. I want a 29er HT as my training bike... my 26er dual will be my race bike.

Just downloaded my HR monitor. Average HR 150 with a max of 184. Maybe the altitude meant that I had to work harder?

Wow my back hurts... I had a new seatpost fitted before the race and all of the measurements were supposed to be spot on. Will moving my seat back on the rails help?
