  1. Just moved to Purple Extreme from Squirt... The chain almost seems dry when you apply purple extreme, the chain just 'absorbs' is... odd...
  2. You seem to be pretty pro Merida... you the local agent by any chance? If not, go and ride the Giant XTC... if you still want the Merida then buy it.
  3. Hmmm... maybe a bottom bracket issue? The reviews on mtbr seem to be very good. I have also heard that they are a little on the soft side
  4. I need to upgrade my cranks and it is between the KCNZ K Type (800g), Truvative Carbon Noir (785g) and the Aerozine X12 (750g). All stated weights are including BB. Now, has only ever owned an Aerozine crank? I need a no nonsense view on quality and durability.
  5. I love my Giant as it is the greatest bike I have ever ridden (possibly in the world??) but this post has put me off a little... after everything that I had been told about how wonderful the agents were... I am a little shocked.
  6. Sheesh I cannot believe the poor service from the Giant Agent here in SA... if it is a defect in the workmanship then it must be repaired or replaced. Simple. I say take pics and email Giant in Taiwan directly. I love my Anthem X but this post saddens me. Come on Giant, make us all believe that you are the one bike brand that still cares about its supporters... come on.... you can do it...
  7. Hi Levett Do you think that I will drop much weight with a stem and seat post change from Race face to KCNC? I saved 100g on the bar change alone... was amazed. I need new cranks but need to save up for some decent ones. Love my Anthem, really cant find a fault and it is very strong.
  8. Hi Bos I have a photo of the scale reading if you want? She is a 2009 X2 - KCNC flat bar, Gippiemme XC Kenya Wheels (1400g), SLX everything save for crank.... tubeless... pm me your cell number, more than willing to mms it to you.
  9. My Anthem X2 weighs 12.1kg with pedals and sealant! It is still running the stock LX cranks and heavy crossmark wheels... could easily be in the 11's with carbon cranks and some thinner wheels...
  10. I have both... one for when I want to ride without worries (dual) and one for when I want to work on my lines in the rough stuff (hardtail)... A hardtail does teach you to ride properly in my opinion...
  11. Silverback... got one and love it... SB is light and the parts are bulletproof
  12. I am a huge Holla fan, go for a ride on the Purple route... it is 28km of awesomeness!
  13. Guys, Holla is catching up with all of the damage caused by the rain and many of the signs are missing on the yellow 45km route... Just becareful and maybe ride with a GPS or something? I have emailed them to let them know. Got horribly lost and ended up crossing over to the black route to come home... not fun... The maroon route is also out of commission...
  14. Marius I really dont know how you can say that... I saw it this weekend... I was standing up freewheeling whilst half of the other chaps were pedaling to keep up... I am the worst rider in the bunch... on slight decents it just want to roll...
  15. I also doubted the "value" of better wheels... then I just dived in purchased a set of Gippiemme wheels from HaHaKieran... The first thing I noticed was how the bike shed 1kg in mass... that was impressive... Then you feel how effortlessly it rolls... This weekend there were long periods where I was standing on my pedals and rolling whilst others were pedaling... superior bearings, design... etc etc etc...
  16. I am a Durban boy and I have been using Dave Wiseman Cycles since I was 7 years old... His new shop is in Glenwood Village Centre...
  17. Thank goodness I do not drink Coke...
  18. I suggest that you start to email your LBS and copy in the guys from Dragons (get their details on the net)! My Anthem X has been put through hell and yeah the paint has a few chips but it still looks hundreds! Dont let your LBS avoid liability...
  19. Have you considered the Giant Anthem X?
  20. Hi I am looking at building up a HT for training... Does anyone have the mass for the Barry White Edition On One HT in Medium? Are these frames any good?
  21. Thanks chaps. I appreciate the input. 186 just seemed high but to be honest I have no idea what my max heart rate is or could be! I will go out this weekend and do a few hill sessions and see what it does. I know when my heart rate hit 186 and I honestly cannot remember feeling out of breathe or as if I wanted to explode... Onwards we learn.
  22. Thanks my man. I am new at the whole HR thing (as you can see. I am 28 and quite fit. I was pushing quite hard on Sunday as I was keeping up with a mate of mine who is far fitter and faster than I am...
  23. Went for a 3 hour ride on Sunday at the local trail centre and I see that my heart rate went as high as 186 on a few occassions... Is that too high? On my Polar I have max HR set at 165 and I usually ease off a little when it starts to beep.
  24. Hi Thanks for the responses chaps. Mine is fine and I am sending it for a service soon so when it comes back it ought to be as good as new... But... I have been riding quite a few of my mates bikes of late and am finding their front shocks to be a lot more plush/smooth. The Recon SL is a great shock but not nearly as smooth as some of the others. I was considering a SID but the price is quite steep. Can I maybe upgrade the internals of my recon SL?
  25. Hi My Anthem X2 came out of the factory with the Rockshox Recon SL. Now I have no complaints with the shock but I am looking to upgrade. I ride mainly XC races (45km classics). I want to stay with the brand as my mates have had issues with their Fox shocks where I have had none. Please let me have your thoughts.
