  1. Awesome stuff!!! A May month event.......pray it will be way cooler than April. I'm sure the evenings are going to ice up! Good luck with the training GAP
  2. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!! Trust your 36One training is coming along and way underway!! May the year ahead be everything 'cycling' that you wish for!! 127 Days to go....... Longer nights...shorter days......
  3. WELL THEN Dogs! Maybe there is a chance you and I should get together 2019 36One and ride this beast....maybe get a couple of others to join the bus too..... Still undecided on this 32 or 34....but give it some time...
  4. For the 36One and finally deciding to try out the (one by)....in this case 1x12.... what would you guys say? A 32 or a 34 chainwheel up front for this kinda terrain? 10-50 T cassette
  5. OKAAAY!! I succumbed to my better judgement yet again Entry in! ...... now to get lean and mean.386 days, 12mths and and to get that right! lol! Being in May month, I think that Karoo dust is going to be a little damp....
  6. Was this the grey Scott in question @fanievb? (In the profile pic?)
  7. Nice one @fanievb As you described it! thats how it happened the last two years for me! So glad you avoided a 'chain reaction wipeout in loose sand with that bloke on the grey Scott!
  8. Yup! Not taking any chances. My accommodation has been booked too.....
  9. I love it! Bring it on! The heat is my demon, the cold is my b*tch! lol! I definitely operate in colder temps than heat.
  10. Thanks Legend!! (PS - Fanie, let me know where you got that fancy double bracket for a double bottle holder. It looks like it worked for you!! - you can PM me if you wish)
  11. When you all ready and if you should so wish................... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/175541-the-36one-mtb-challenge-2019/
  12. Okay guys & girls! Its just after the 2018 - 36One event and the organizers have been fast off the block to give us the 2019 dates for another round of dust eating endurance racing 387 days to go! (From time of posting) 17 May 2019 - 19 May 2019 Who is going for the 1st time? Who is mad enough to be going again? (Me ) What plans - training and races leading up to next year have you got planned? Hopefully we can have a year of chats and camaraderie sharing training tips, plans and stories from this forum.... Please feel free to hook up! Maybe we can entice the likes of The Tortured Souls to give it another bash...... but we know they will! Wondering what time the early bird entries will open? Good luck all.
  13. On a negative note. What was it with this stone throwing incident(s) on Friday night after CP1? I saw a visitors post on FB and the person was very disgruntled with 36One organisers and -and because of one of the incidents of stone throwing and the handling of cutoff times etc. Not good. I've only had/have good things to say about this race. Still do. Its a pity
  14. Surely some of you must have heard an echo that went through the Karoo at 3am in the morning...... it had an very angry 'F in it!....... LOL!! Well done to all that finished! No matter at what pace or at what time you finished, it takes guts to attempt this thing and huge vasbyt when the going gets tough!
  15. Back home from #36One Challenge #4. No comeback from a gradual compression loss and then ultimately a failed front shock after WP5 nearly 25km from CP2. Nearly cried when they made it final for me and cut my number board off. A DNF at 3am Saturday morning. sucked!! BUT!!! Back next year!
  16. SO grateful that 36One have cleared up the water point story and confirmed that the water point is on Rooiberg and not at normal spot. This was confirmed on twitter. So as per their webpage the distances displayed are correct. Thanks Fanie for following it up.
  17. In my dreams....hell yeah! In my reality.....hell no!!
  18. SO! What pre-weekend biking activities are taking place this weekend -???........... before next weekend's sufferfest! ....I need to keep my legs turning the weekend, then 2.5 days of work and then Thursday a chuck down to Oudtshoorn for the 'fun and games' to begin. (am I the only one that makes packing notes, mental notes, pre-bike prep before even getting to the place of "Ostriches).......... Tell me I'm normal? AND the sh*t just got real!
  19. I think I have figured out and I would like to believe that the 36One Team got the calculations wrong. This Rooiberg water point distance got me into investigative mode and hereunder is what I believe the correct distances are against the previous posted. (Measured from Google Map) The water point at Rooiberg if still at normal spot is 242km not 252km. From that waterpoint to checkpoint 3 - Calitzdorp is 38km, not 28km..... hope I'm right Total dist Ride WP1 - 36 63 CP1 - 27 90 WP3 - 27 128 WP4 - 38 152 WP5 - 24 183 CP2 - 31 216 WP7 - 33 242 WP8 - 26 280 CP3 - 38 310 WP10 - 30 338 WP11 - 28 361 Fin - 23 For those riding waterpoint to waterpoint/ checkpoint to checkpoint - hope it helps.
  20. AND! last year temps spiked to 40deg+ with the run in to Calitzdorp CP3. It broke me.............but luckily it didn't destroy me ......lol
  21. For now - 20th -Friday is 27'deg and the eve 12'deg in Oudtshoorn Saturday - 21st is 27'deg and eve 11'deg Calitzdorp is 26'deg Saturday with hopefully a tailwind pushing us in..... For now that is.... lol
  22. Ride WP1 36k 63 CP1 27k 90 WP3 27k 128 WP4 36k 152 WP5 26k 183 CP2 31k 216 WP7 33k 252 WP8 36k 280 CP3 28k 310 WP10 30k 338 WP11 28k 361 Fin 23k That Rooiberg water point has got me ?? (The place of my 'demons') They hide there!
  23. Just having a look at my Garmin map and distance markers. If the organiser's stats are correct as per the breakdown of water points and checkpoints on the webpage, the Rooiberg waterpoint will be on Rooiberg ascent and not at the start of Rooiberg as in previous years..........??? Technically the water point was at around the 240km last year, this year they say 252km?? I'm not sure now.....
