  1. And its a Go! - Medic forms signed off by doc and of medical opinion all is in good health. ....However, for some of us and I know it has been asked, "have I done enough?"........That is always going to be the question. ....However, not much can be done from now and it all gets real, again in 10 days!!!!!!!....... That is the reality!
  2. You can alert her at the top of Rooiberg...... Enough time for her to drive out to Calitzdorp and for you to get there at around same time, Im sure....
  3. This year, going with minimal. Last two years, it was 3 boxes and then 1 box with change of kit respectively only at CP2 This year, I doubt I'll be putting in any boxes. I find I waste too much time faffing over this. My bike: Will have an endurance battery which lasts me the whole night (Friday) and still have some left over + a small battery which will give me another 3-5hrs if I need it. + a powerbank for my Garmin if needed (All Taped) to my top tube. A "small petrol tank" top tube bag with some gels, rennies, and my fav powder mix. I will carry two 750ml bottles on the bike + small saddle bag with plugkit , bomb and regulator I might carry a bladderless camelbak with sunscreen, armwarmers, mini pump and place to stash away jacket and warm stuff if not needed. (Oh, and some empty jip lock bags to raid the checkpoint of dateballs and and for pad kos...lol!) That's about it......
  4. It was a quick slap up water point.....but SO beneficial! Ice cold water was served..... I'm surprised you did see it.....But I do know they were low on water when we got there.....
  5. It was around just after midday last year that I came upon this water point at the beginning of the descent off Rooiberg....... The engine was burning and this was an absolute God send!!
  6. From the summit of Rooiberg to CP3 is roughly 26km give or take........I think they have moved the waterpoint/added for this section. I could be wrong
  7. Iiiiiiiii like it! I like it a lot! Chasing that funnel of light all night long! lol! Ja! I know!!! ........ Still looking for a psychologist & psychiatrist, all in one, who will be willing to give me a combo session deal!....lol!
  8. You ride solo, you ride your own race hboli4....do what's best for you according to your training, endurance and ability. Don't get fazed by all the talk...lol. Its just pent up energy ready to give it horns!!!! Ne' boys!? 18 days to GO!!!
  9. I normally go about two weeks before 36One. Just a quick in and out, signed and done..... I don't recall ever seeing a time frame but I guess it just comes down to common sense that it should be done close to the event date....... (Its also good for you as you get a clean bill of health, no stress or it could be the opposite which could be a life saver....just my 2c)
  10. Fanie, You doing 36One on a hardtail? If so, have you done the others on HT too? I'm torn whether to do it on a HT this year. I haven't been riding/training on my soft tail much....
  11. 22 DAYSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. "Date balls and coca-cola. Food of champions!"....... I'll second that!!
  13. Accommodation is always going to be tough to find last minute. Try the tourism office and ask for any assistance. (044) 272 0041........
  14. If you can handle 230km, you'll handle 36One with the right mental attitude and race plan....We all, well some of us, get to lose some training time but if you can turn the pedals and have forward momentum, it can be done!
  15. 43 Days!! in counting...... my last big ultra training ride coming up tomorrow (Friday) start 6pm, x4 loops of +/-60km and if still feeling good by Saturday morning a 5th to make it 300km. So much rain has fallen over the past few days, the conditions of the 'groads is going to play a big part in getting this done......Thankful to be having a stronger, 36One newbie joining me........ How are the rest of you warriors coming on........
  16. Very nice. Post some pics! (Wolf Rad) Thinking of doing 36One on my hardtail this year and if I do, extra bottle cage could do. Hardly been on my full suss. Training is still ahead of last year. Slightly. Been off the past week with a stuffy snotty head... 52 days to go!!!
  17. For all us 'mal blokes and gals taking on the 36One in 85 days time..... interesting read. Define those limits! https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/articles/training-nutrition/the-hurt-locker-why-quitting-is-all-in-your-head-r7040
  18. Nice one Fanie! On 376km for the month as of today but you are a little up on the elevation with me only at 3217m. Phasing my hill climbing training in. lol. 19. Thanks for sharing this! I think a rather good overview here! Awesome!
  20. Déjà Vu! exactly a replica of this year....I could have been drunk on dehydration me think. Dunno how I got to the finish line... just did!
  21. Yebo! Thank you.....but battling somewhat with getting going. Only just got back in the saddle after a 2 week bout of flu. Still coughing but back riding......lol
  22. 135 days to go! And a change in course......well change in water points. See the 1st one is at 36km and not 53km like last year...& CP1 was at 83km last year..... WP1 36 CP1 63 WP3 90 WP4 126 WP5 152 CP2 183 WP7 216 WP8 252 CP3 280 WP10 310 WP11 338 Finish 361 Going to be lekker!!
  23. This whole debate about costs......Well, it is what it is and there will be those that can afford it, those mad enough to do it but its a bit tight will find a way to get it and then there will be those where as the debate shows, it is just too overwhelmingly expensive. BUT it is what it is and it is there for the taking. Those that really want to do it will just do it or find a way to do it!.I'm one of those that could be trying to find a way to do it if I'm set on it. (I would love to do this Munga) I've done RASA and it is expensive (but worth every cent!!) but here are some stats I sort of put together... Assuming you would be making use of the max time permitted............ The Munga 1070km (5 days) = R18k (R16.82p/km) - Unsupported (R3600p/day) The Freedom Challenge Race Across South Africa 2300km (26 days) = R35k (R15.21p/km) - Unsupported (R1346.15 p/day) The Freedom Challenge race to Rhodes 475km (7 days) = R9200 (R19.36p/km) - Unsupported (R1314.28 p/day) The Freedom Challenge race to Cradock 575km (6 days) = R8700 (R15.13p/km) - Unsupported (R1450 p/day) The Freedom Challenge race to Willowmore 554km (6 days) = R8700 (15.70p/km) - Unsupported (R1450 p/day)
