  1. Jeepers! I Want what MM is on! This is incredibly insane! Human endurance at its absolute best! WOW!
  2. I speak under correction but I think this was posted by Mike Woolnough two weeks back on the Munga Whatssap group chat.........and maybe adds to some perspective of the Munga race and what plenty, if not all riders will go through...... "104 on the list. All immersed in the dream of finishing the Big One. Stats suggest that at least 40 of them, if not half the field, will have that dream crushed. It’s a tough race. The distance, time limits, road conditions and especially the weather will all conspire to convince you that you were unrealistic in thinking you could do a race like this. Self doubt will be a constant companion that sits on your shoulder and whispers the constant refrain, “Why are you doing this?” It’s a valid question but it’s best ignored." So far it looks like it is going well for most this year.........
  3. Got my fav's.....................going to be watching with probable feeling of FOMO. (who knows, maybe next year?) All the best to everyone just rocking up for this truly incredible race start tomorrow and surely a test of human resilience, endurance, spirit and sheer guts!!! Much respect for you all! Enjoy! Make every second count!
  4. If I may ask? Customs expensive?
  5. Hope Neville got his rig all sorted this time around. On a gravel grinder last year and tyre and rim issues was cause for his demise in the 2016 Munga. He finished in 2015 though! Rooting for you bro! ....and all the others.....
  6. Anyone know where one can obtain a downloadable 12 or 18 week periodic training plan for endurance racing? A website link maybe?
  7. Velouria said it just as it is!! And believe me there is truth in all of it! 2018, my number 4 coming up and even though I ride hardtail as well as full suss, My full suss, even though heavier, I wouldn't ride 36One any other way. 360kms, Its a loooong way and you WILL suffer somewhat. I'm quite happy to suffer with a shock off my rear
  8. Hope you get to heal soon......
  9. just about done with three weeks of base training after taking some time out. The weekend big miles are about to kick in...............
  10. AND! howz all the training coming along? Just short of 5 months away.......................................roughly 23 weekends.....
  11. Slightly off topic, I wonder if Kevin Benkenstein will be doing Munga this year again. He's getting some good training whilst currently doing the Race to the Rock in Australia. He seems to be doing pretty well I think.... 3000kms is nothing to scoff at. https://racetotherock2017.maprogress.com/
  12. Great riding!!..........chilly temps! BUT a far cry from the heat of hell that one will ride into in December...
  13. SO! SO! SO! 7.5 months (239 days to go!) Riding, training, some racing planned before then. Still long way off to have a "lead up to" training plan or am I wrong? What all you guys getting up to before then?
  14. Just ride boet! Just ride! Intervals, hill climbing and a few long hauls..... Planning my first long haul of the training season 3rd w/end of August. All going well a 225km one day Saturday haul
  15. After failed attempt in 2015 & solo finished 2016 & 2017, going for my 3rd in 2018 with accommodation already booked while at this year's event. If you want a well organised event, endurance racing is your thing and you want to push your boundaries, 36One will certainly deliver!
  16. I'm looking a making a purchase of a carbon hard tail frame. Taking a 2017 Scott Scale 940 components and swooping them over I need to check the BB story. I'm not 100% mechanical. The BB on the Scott is a Shimano BB-MT500-PA / shell 41x89.5mm running a Shimano XT FC-M8000-2 / Hollowtech 2 crank set. On the carbon frame you can choose between a BSA English Thread 73mm or BB30. I take it I cannot use the current BB and a BB to fit the carbon frame, will it be compatible with my crank set? Any advice would be appreciated
  17. Bit of this. Bit of that.... leclint
  18. No news on the "Win an Entry into 2017 Munga" competition. And the winner is.....!! ..... or did I miss it.
  19. They really dragging it out......................the suspense is killing
  20. Even though DNF for you, well done on getting as far as you did!! Much respect 'Dogs. 2015 was my 1st Solo and it ended with a DNF. 2016 was unfinished business and the desire to complete the transaction was strong and I succeeded in getting my 1st Medal @ 27hrs! 2017 I came back to break the 24hr hurdle.... I raced as hard as my body had trained for. It was going so well reaching CP1 and 2 over and hour and a half earlier than the previous year. I was on track for a 23hr at 181km..... Then came Rooiberg after 10am in the morning along with the heat and no wind. I struggled, I broke and when I arrived at Calitzdorp I already had that thousand yard stare and a tad heat exhaustion. It became a fight within myself to leave the haven of CP3. I lost plenty of time. I eventually left to finish what I started. I didn't know if I was going to make it. It was touch and go at one stage and so started the mind games, the mind fu*k that it was. I purged my guts all over the dusty road leading to the last water point from pure nausea and sugar hype trying to revive my fatigued body. The last 23km was an endless hell but then I found myself riding into the finish as though I had gone through some form of time travel and for a minute couldn't believe how I had got there......45mins over last years time. The dust has settled, the pain has gone, the body restored. I missed the early bird entry but I have already made my accommodation bookings for next year. Overcoming your own adversity is a drug and the personal satisfaction addictive....... I'll be back 2018.
  21. Total came to R1060 with transport......
  22. There is a little leather...yes. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/za/en/selle-italia-maxflite-gel-flow-saddle/rp-prod25467 The figures R288 customs. R188 vat R43 Handling = R519 to SAPO And I see they have changed their RSP to R1562 Thanks for all the feed here guys! I went and collected the saddle but very peeved! Will definitely be looking for other clearing agents in future. Paying a little extra wouldn't be an issue if it means it is better!
  23. SJOE! Its times like this that I want to jump out of my positive shell and stoop to a lower level of bullsh*t.... If I have a problem, then I am informed I must write a letter stating my complaint and case, send it with a copy of my ID and the parcel back to Customs (700+km) away and then there is a waiting period, minimum of 3 weeks to get an answer! HAVE YOU EVA!!!!? Held to ransom!! WTF!!! Not a happy chappy!!
  24. AND SO! I order a saddle on sale with a recommended retail sell of R2800 for a total of R1060.00 incl delivery from CRC. Finally on the 23rd day from order date, I am informed it is lying at my local PO and I need to pay them R519.24!! customs, taxes etc. --- A bit excessive or am I naive!?!!!
