  1. Fair enough. Didn't see a barometer on the 500 spec. So what does the Garmin cost?
  2. Won't know how it works till I get my unit. I assume though that you could upload a route in a common GPS format.
  3. I did a little research before buying, a colleague bought it a week before at the normal price . Its pretty solid. Its better designed then the Edge 500 and has better specs. Because it has a barometer your altitude (relative) measurements are going to be much more accurate. Also it has if i remember correctly 6 display 'widgets' on the main screen so you get a lot of data of the bat, the usuals, and gradient, heart rate, cadence etc. You can also preload routes onto the unit and it will direct you (that's what I'm told). Plus the fact that its GPS means you can just buy an extra bike mount and swap it between mtb/road/whatever. Obviously the cadence sensor will be fixed (or mostly fixed). Look around and bike computers, this is the price of a non-gps computer.
  4. Yup. Wiki's them. Listed on Nasdaq, and doing pretty badly. But they're totally legit, just a lot of complaints about service related coupons. So I think we're good here.
  5. I hope so, I've already bought it. It's only my first groupon purchase. They're owned by Google right.
  6. Yup. Could probably mod an iPod strap.
  7. which sharks? Groupon or Bryton?
  8. Sweet deal. Just bought me one of these from Groupon. Incredible price, its normally R3000 for the bundle and R1500 just for the computer. Free shipping. Link: Pay R1 399 for a state of the art Bryton Rider 35T GPS cycling computer including heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensors and national delivery, valued at R2 999 (save 53%) Updated Link.
  9. Thanks for the responses. I won't be going to the expo. Only arriving Saturday afternoon. I'm now staying in Simons Town. So I'll take the train. Will get someone to get me tickets at the Expo.
  10. Don't know cape town, so need some advice on getting to the start. Need to get from Blouberg to the Start. I see on the Cycle Tour website that spectators are encouraged to use the MyCiti bus service to Thibault Square Station (starting at Table View). I assume I can get on the bus with my bike?
  11. It would be nice to get the data so that we can plot the profiles on a common scale. So anyone with a GPS/Barometer cycling computer, please share the races you've done or will do. This is probably too ambitious.
  12. Its so annoying when your riding partner has to make a nature stop and you have to stand on the side of the road holding her bike. I'm in support of same sex cycling.
  13. Endomondo says 850 for 94.7.
  14. maybe phone Bobby's Cycles in Port Shepstone, they should have more info about trails on the south coast.
  15. Thanks for the responses. I'll use the calculator for the ballpark, and then adjust each weekend and see how it goes. And yes, i'm back at the gym working those rhomboids, and my core, I think that will make a huge impact. Doing a bit of running too, think it will help with core strength and 'secondary' cycling muscles as well.
  16. Plan B is going back to a pro fitter. Plan A is learning how to make those adjustments coz like most people are saying (yourself included) its a ballpark, and if many small adjustments are needed to get to the optimum position, then I'd rather do it myself. I'll be experimenting with YouTube and a multitool this weekend.
  17. I think you have a point. I rode 60 on Saturday and almost didn't make it home. On Sunday I did the d2d half, and made a conscious effort to maintain a firmer posture, and there was improvement. So I will look into that. It was also bad since I haven't been to gym or on a ride for a few months, so doing 60 straight off might not have been the best idea. Still this is a problem that's been going on for nearly two years.
  18. Yip. Think its too far down, so I'm not arching enough. The seat position is more dependent on where I want my feet on the pedals. So I don't want to mess with that too much. Convinced its the stem being too long, and too far.
  19. Cool, that's what I was looking for. I will give it a go, just to see how far off I am, since its the same setup I got from cyclefit
  20. Struggling with neck and shoulder pain, and always have (cycling on/off for 2 years). I've been for a full bike setup at cyclefit last year, and that hasn't helped. The pain is enough to make me consider giving up on cycling totally. I wanted to know if anyone has their full bike setup measurements (from CRM or bikefit or whatever) to compare against this on-line calculator. My thinking is that if it is indeed scientific then it should be easily reproducible online since the input (body measurements) are the same and are simple. I appreciate that there must be an 'art' in addition to the science to get the fit perfect, and for that reason I would rather have the know-how myself to adjust the bike according to my needs. A bit sceptical of expert bike fittings - I think its a lot of trial and error (trial being a long ride).
  21. If the watch uses bluetooth, which I doubt.
  22. Also the Zephyr HxM is more widely featured (in apps on Android). However the Polar is supported by all the major apps, and its much much cheaper. R600 + App for a fully featured HR monitor + distance + elevation etc..... AWESOME!
  23. I have it already. Picked it up yesterday. Paid 64 EUR which is approx R 640 from http://shop.sports-tracker.com/hr The actual price is 69 Euro, but they deduct tax if you're buying from outside the EU. So the above price is inclusive of delivery. I thought I would have to pay VAT and possibly customs at the post office, but they they didn't ask for any of that. I use Endomondo, but SportsTracker was cheaper.
