  1. The guy that was almost jacked on Sunday (26/01/2014) was the last guy in a peleton of riders. Pedestrian simply hooked the handlebar as he passed (he fell a couple of meters behind) and pulled a gun. First he wanted cash/phone and upon being told the cyclist had none, he proceeded to try and take the bike. Luckily by this time some of the other cyclists as well as cars stopped and assisted. Pedestrian ran away without getting anything...
  2. Don't think I'll call the number while being jacked... They'll prolly take my phone
  3. Frankly, this is rediculous! Firstly, an attempted bike jacking ot the Welgevonden traffic light on Sunday (26/01/2014) and now this! I use this route to commute to work (Stellenbosch -> Bellville) but at the rate things are going, I am seriously thinking of just sticking to Jonkershoek...
  4. Not cool! Hate it when people are like that! On the lighter side of things, I have never tried putting downward pressure on my crack... will definitely try this afternoon on my commute
  5. Yeah. I'm also glad it was nothing serious - although I put some of it down to skill... Have had a lot of practice in jonkers
  6. Don't bru... stuff like this happens...
  7. How so...?
  8. No cracks previously... I don't know if carbon should do that as this is the first carbon item that I have and I haven't had it too long. Was a hard tumble though. I'm 100% though, be commuting again on Thursday with my mtb...
  9. Foot fine. Couple of carpet burns on arm and leg and a slightly sore shoulder. Bike and polar watch took most of the damage.
  10. Hahahaha... Not the first time I've fallen... Definitely not the last. Will be back on my MTB for commuting on Thursday (it doesn't break so easily)
  11. Things i've learned from commuting today: when doing 30kph up a hill and your chain snaps, try not to get your foot stuck in the front wheel...
  12. Hi Guys, I live and ride in the Stellenbosch Area and got this mail yesterday: I received this from a fellow cyclist and would like to warn you as well: Hi, we had an incident Sunday morning ( 26/1/2014) at 9H30 at Stellenbosch where the last rider (Tian Bester) in our cycling group and about 50 meters behind our group was attacked on the bicycle. The man on the side of the road (… green shirt with blue pants and golden earrings)stepped in front of the cyclist, grabbed the handlebar and threw him off his bicycle and demanded at gunpoint his cell phone. With no cell phone at hand the robber then demanded his bicycle. Luckily some motorists and cyclists saw the incident and rushed to help. The robber then fled into the bushes at Lekkerbly informal settlement. The cyclist had some injury with bleeding on right leg. The other bystanders next to the road and residents of the Lekkerbly informal settlement are reluctant to help and fear for their lives if they were about to give away the robbers information. This incident happened on the R304 opposite the Lekkerbly informal settlement and just after the first robot ( turn-off to Cloetesville/Welgevonden Estate) before entering Stellenbosch/Kayamandi. This incident was reported to the Kayamandi Police-station and inspectors already contacted the cyclist this morning to go through some photo’s. ( Great stuff inspectors!!). The cyclist also happen to be a resident of Bellville and student at University of Stellenbosch. We would like to thank the motorists and other cyclists that rushed to help the cyclist being robbed. The other main reason for this email is to bring to whatever authorities attention that everyone needs to feel safe on our roads, cyclist and pedestrians alike. This is happening too often and as a result we don’t feel safe cycling in our beautiful countryside. So hopefully this will also help raise the profile of these types of incidents to the point of some action being taken. All cyclists please take notice and cycle safe Kind Regards Herman Bester 021 947 3546 (work) 0824968368 PPA-nr: 44175
  13. Ok, so did my first commute for this year on Thursday Afternoon/Friday morning (23/01/14-24/01/14). Afternoon back from work it was hellova hot, but first ride on my roadie (gots it last week for commuting purposes) and did the fastest commute ever without even trying. Happy and all smiles on Thursday. Got up with a smile on Friday morning (I am a morning person luckily), got on the bike and out the door. Was about 15m away from the house when it started pouring (end of Jan rain in Stellenbosch - WHAT???). Anyway, car was in Bellville, 30km away, so I didn't really have a choice so I turned around, got my rain jacket and did the commute and I must say...GREAT commuting in rain in summertime!
  14. Two years ago at the eselfontein festival, one of my mates forgot his helmet at home in dbnville. We asked around if someone could help and Deon gave his helmet to my mate for the ride! Great guy!
  15. Anyone commute from Stellenbosch to Bellville/Dbnville/Brackenfell area? Only thing better than commuting, is commuting with a buddy
  16. Right, starting my commuting a bit late this year, but this afternoon I'm on my way! Struggling to concentrate on work because of anticipation! Can't wait!!!
  17. On a lighter note...I was in NAM with no Inet and seem to have missed out on a lot! Damn, can't step away from the hub for a couple of days without missing some major drama. Gonna have some fomo the next time I leave the country! Am concidering creating a new account and slandering someone to create my own little reenactment to silence the regret of missing everything.

  23. Congrats GREG! You were a machine! Just a pity I have to take my TV for counselling today cause of all the shouting at it yesterday
  24. Very sad sad day indeed! My deepest condolences to Cherise and his Family!!! I should think that this is one loss that we should not allow to "blow over"! Although I am a mountain biker and very rarely ride on the roads, we must do everything to ensure that our roads become a safer place for cyclists, and not just for the next month or so untill this shock of Burry's death is not as deep as yesterday and today! This morning, another 2 cyclist were knocked down in JHB, by a taxi. They were riding in a cycle lane that had a curb between it and the road...
