  1. lol alrighty then! 😎🤙
  2. Enjoy! 😁 Hope you set a new personal best this year! 🥳💪
  3. It still comes down to assuming other road users are are going to use the road in a predicatable and lawful way. Sitting back and saying they should conduct themselves accordingly is just ignorant to the reality of our roads. If a road is known to be used by racers often would you then not come to the conclusion that that section of road is more dangerous than any other "normal" section of road and thus the chance of an incident is higher? Which is my original point. Ride on known dangerous road = accepting the risk. You cant fall back on the assumption that road users are going to act accordingly. I full agree with you that superbike riders and weekend warriors dont give a **** about the rules of the road and will continue racing up and down hells hoogte, franschoek, rooi els etc. My point is that this is the known state of those roads, so cycling there is accepting it.
  4. Oh sorry i forgot about all the good parts of the country to nullify my argument. brb just going to Phillipi Farms to drop off my TV because the guy cant make it to my house and will pay more more for delivery.
  5. Clearly not understanding my point. If you choose to go to to Afghanistan on holiday and you end up being captured or killed is that considered victim blaming? Surely not since the general concensus is "You shouldnt have been there since everyone knows its dangerous" Nothing is stopping you from going there, the land itself isnt dangerous, its just the people..... The road itself isnt dangerous, its just the people using it So by using a known dangerous section of road you are accepting the consequence of your action. How is this victim blaming? You are also putting an assumption on road user to act accordingly. The reality is that certain roads are dangerous and you cant rely on all road users to drive and use the road safely. Putting your safety in other road users hands because "They should drive according to the law and pass when its safe" is pretty stupid tbh.
  6. My point was not that cyclists are lesser road users. My point is that "almost all" road users know those roads are narrow and not ideal for cycling. So by cycling there, you are accepting the risks. Im not saying cyclists have less rights to use the roads than any other road user, they are just exposed to more risk, which they accept when riding on those roads. You are more than welcome to go and use the roads, but people cant be surprised when dangerous roads produce dangeorus results and then act all shocked...
  7. Being on both sides, cyclist and motorcyclist I have an opinion on each side. When I am on my bicycle, on the road (Which is very rare as it find it extremely unsafe) I observe cyclists 90% of the time riding 2, or 3 abrest! without fail or often passing a cyclist ahead and not looking before moving over and going into the road. No shoulder checks... Guys CYCLING ON THE N1 into town! Yes yes I know that section isnt safe, I've cycled there many times as well. You are taking the risk by riding on the highway to avoid being mugged on the cycle path, I get it. Cyclists cycling on roads with a very narrow yellow line, sub 500mm is just asking for trouble. Guys cycling UP and DOWN Franschoek pass which basically has no yellow line is just asking for trouble. YOU are inviting risk into your ride by riding on roads that are unsafe for bicycles. Removing the motorcycles racing up and down the pass. There are MASSIVE grain carriers, bakkies towing boats to the dams, car clubs and general traffic. Now add a cyclist to a blind corner with no yellow line and not enough space to pass safely and you are asking for trouble. AGAIN: YOU CHOSE TO CYCLE ON AN UNSAFE ROAD. This applies to Chappies. Its a MASSIVE tourist destination with busses, cars and motorbikes (Yes I acknowledge speeding and over taking blah blah), there is NO SPACE TO CYCLE THERE SAFELY, even if all traffic is obeying the rules of the road, riding a bicycle there is not safe with the amount of traffic that goes through there. You accepted the risks when you went on that route, do not expect a cycling utopia just becuse its a popular route. On the Motorcycle side. I've been riding motorbikes on the road and track for a long time. Cars dont see you, trucks dont see you, cyclists dont see you. Those roads I mentioned above are just as unsafe for motorcycles as they are for cyclists. We accept these risks when using the road. Everyone gets sad when a motorcyclist, who is riding normally, gets killed by a car turning or running a red light. But this is part of being on two wheels, bicycle or motorcycle. Any way, sad day indeed but people only care about their side of the story and want to regulate te opposite. The cure lies in education and correct training, but we can only dream..
  8. Since we are talking second hand market right now. Im looking to sell ALL my gear, like everything I have. So please advise if this price is fair and what youd pay for a bundle like this? https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/694681/2017-transition-patrollots-of-gear-negotiable
  9. I use a heavily diluted mix of Clean Green and water. Maybe like 50ml clean green to 500ml water. Still strong enough to degrease te chain and grime but soft enough on the paint and seals. So far everything has been fine for around a year. Clean Green concentrate is around R89 a bottle and lasts a really long time. I used to use Blixem but found it too harsh.
  10. Hi there. As I was coming down the last snake trail I came across this cover. Inside it says Scott Spark Carbon and the outside it says push down 10mm and turn. I handed it in at the Ranger hut where you buy the permits. Hope someone collects it.
  11. Haha yeah exactly that! Got to the last climb up to the mast and noped out of that right away, was so rekt after all the climbing, I rather did Black Rhino 2 and went back for a beer 😅
  12. Excited for this!😎 Can I ask that this time the lead riders for each group do a track walk or explanation of each section, best routes, risks etc so we can learn from the pros and then put it to practice? The Conties ride was great but there was no teaching involved and the fast guys just sped away at each stage. 😅 Jonkers can be intimidating so would be cool to learn on the day. 😎🤘
  13. Just want to make an appreciation post for whats happening at Bloemendal at the moment. The First Thursdays (with LEATT) concept is really awesome and such a good vibe! Everyone is having a great time and really makes the end of the ride enjoyable and social! I really appreciate LEATT sponsoring the givewaways as well as the Jack Black beers and other goodies that were present last night! Secondly, The work on the trails has been amazing! VEER Factor is a blast! Super fun and technical. I appreciate that the pallete jump/ drop at the end has been replaced with a nice gap jump, as well as placing palletes over the water logged end berms. Lombards Terra is also running really well. Those loose, sandy berms have been replaced with nice smooth and fast flowing corners now. Really looking forward to seeing whats in store for Flow Terra! Great work and keep it up
  14. I bought the cheapest karcher from builders, specifically for my bike and its been working great for the past 2 years. Also cleaned paving and a few other things. Well worth the money. Only minor gripe is that standard hose is a bit short. Id get the 5m extenion.
  15. Was a really epic day! Thanks to all for organising! Was awesome getting to ride some trails I have never ridden at Conties before, especially Forrest Frenzy. That was quite a challange but super fun! Cant wait for the next one!
  16. Well I have THE most sicentific data possible on the state of the second hand market over the last year and a bit. 😉 Let me elaborate. When I was in the market for a new bike, but had to wait till bonus time (2023) I had A LOT of potential bikes loaded up in my wishlist. Bikes from R20k up to R60K, a very large bracket (But specifically, Large/ XL, Dual Sus, 29/27,5, Enduro stye bikes). Last year, every single bike in my wishlist was sold within 3-8days, regardless of the price. I had to constantly find new bikes to add. Which wasnt hard since people were selling like crazy as well. Now this year, as bonus month drew nearer. The bikes I had in my wishlist were sitting......and sitting.... The bike I eventually bought had sat on my wishlist for about 2 months. I did then get it for R7000 under asking price. BUT, i think there were some factors that may have played into this "bargain" The bike is an XL. Which sits outside of the general size most buyers are after and its a 27.5" which I think is not what the cool kids are after. Any way, my wishlist still has items in it, not just bikes, but components and clothing etc, they have generally been sitting for AT LEAST 1-2 weeks now, often times more. So from this highly scientific and accurate data you can clearly see that the market is slowing. Next time we need some mroe data ill open my whishlist and report back 😊
  17. Jsut released. They dont really add much to the conversation but the comment section is just as divided as this one 😅
  18. I have only been riding MTB for just over a year now and Majik maybe 10-15 times but I tend to agree, every time we go through the forrest along the river I feel bad because we get in the way of all the walkers. It is a nice loop to do though but riding it on the weekend is kind of out of the question now. Just a pity becasue I like the loop and some of the features on the trail and its a quick way to get 10-15kms in.
  19. Thanks! I dont have the full clip any more, but just laughed with them and showed them where to walk. They seemed like they were trying to be helpful by not walking on the bike trails and assumed no one would go down the really steep section 🤭I walked up with them and said good bye and re did my line. Just a note: This was not the incident I was talking about earlier in the thread, these ladies were very nice
  20. Kind of just fell over, see video below 😅 Pic of my bike. WhatsApp Video 2023-05-08 at 14.40.48.mp4
  21. Yup, exact same thing happened to me on the section with the S berm that goes into the forrest of multple lines. I wont down the right hand very steep section and went head on into 2 old ladies CLIMBING up the trail. They said "We didnt expect anyone to be coming down this steep section" 🤣
  22. Sort of related, but coming down majik forrest at a vey normal and slowish pace, because we know there are walkers and dogs and elderly etc, we passed some tannies that stood off to the side in a tight section, I went past and thanked them. As i went past, unbeknownst to me, they said "I hope he falls in the water 😠" just as my buddy came to the same section and heard what they said. Totally unecsessary and unwarranted. 99% of the time every walker on that trail yields to bikers and we always say thank you. Why be so rude on a Sunday morning after you pretended to be nice in church a few hours prior?
  23. Was using Leatt Gravity 2.0 and I replaced my studs with 12mm allen caps for extra grip. Helped a lot i must say. Not like my feet were sliding around but when it did go off line it was annoying. I had a similar feel back in the day when I used to skateboard. I had to wear thick socks and my feet had to be very warm, then id be able to do tricks and grinds etc with full confidence. Riding with cleats gives me that "perfect" feeling every time so it feels great.
  24. I actually switched from flats to cleats very recently, less than a month ago. I'll confidently say that cleats have been better for me in every single way. Feel more connected to the bike and rocky terrain is way easier now being locked onto the bike. My pedalling efficiency is also way up. I really like that my foot is always in the correct position when heading down hill. I always struggled with flats to get my feet in the optimal position before descending, and when I did it was super annoying having my foot shift out of place mid run which really threw my mind off. Overall im really enjoying cleats and actually have my shoes and pedals up for sale!
  25. Hmmmm 5 year wedding anniversary or WC Enduro? Maybe Saturday will have to be extra special 😅
