  1. Most of the support route is on tar road but their are a few short sections of district gravel road. This should be fine for all vehicles (that are not extremely low) if you drive slow and cautious. The first short section of about 5km is to checkpoint 1 that is not compulsory for crew members. So if your team agrees, your support vehicle can skip this one and wait for you at checkpoint 2 at about 100km into the race. You will then just have to be self-sufficient for the first 100km (checkpoint 1 at the 50km mark will have water and snacks though). Checkpoints 2 and 3 are just off the tar road so that is no problem, Checkpoint 4 has a gravel road section of about 10km of rough'ish district road but can be easily done by any vehicle. Just drive slow. The last gravel section is the 25km district road from Dullstroom to Tonteldoos which can also be done by any vehicle. The condition of the road is not that great but not a challenge either.

  4. Hi All

Thanks for all the feedback and input. As organizer it is always great to get views and opinions so that we can sort through the valid points and also the ones that that are maybe not so objective :-)

The first and main thing that I want to put major emphases on is that with Cullinan 2 Tonteldoos we are NOT trying to create another Transbaviaans. We have a very strong believe in the concept of our event and that is that it will always be a rider/supporter event where it is just as much about the supporters as it is about the riders. In 2018 we plan to put many more things in place to make the experience also greater for the supporters. This is a tough event (like an endurance event should be) so with our event we strongly believe in the personal, mental and emotional support that riders should receive from loved ones, friends, etc at the supporter zones. Here are a few misconceptions I would like to clear up:

    1) We definitely don't allow only one support member. We do however limit support to one vehicle per team/rider and one official, registered support member but you can put as many people as you like in the support vehicle to help each other drive and to have company.

    2) The event is tough so if you come under prepared like @VicanZA, you will suffer (like at any other endurance event). It is a given. It is however not extreme. Testimony to that is the Rocky Chicks 3 girl team who started training as weekend warriors who used to rode their bikes randomly but then, through dedication and proper training, finished comfortably.

    3) We also specifically have the start time as it is so that the bulk of the field can finish during the festival that only starts at 9am on the Saturday morning and so that they can enjoy the more beautiful part of the route during and after sunriese. The racing snakes will always finish early so over 24 hours it is impossible to get the perfect finish time that literally suites everyone.

    4) We know we cannot please everyone, every time, all the time but with this event only being in it's 2nd year we do realize that there is always room for improvement. We are however firmly committed to our vision and race concept and will improve on it until it is perfect :-)

    5) C2T is THE most affordable, best value-for-money ultra event you will ever get to do! That has also been one of our main visions from day one.

  8. 14 entries still available? Is that 14 team entries or space left for 14 people?

That is for 14 people but at this point it is only 6 still. We will consider increasing the limit as soon as we get confirmation from the starting and finishing venues regarding extra space allocated to accommodate more riders.

  9. surely today a simple iPhone/iPad with 3G and google maps should work ?

a email shared at the time listing each of the check points as pins placed on which can be clicked and opened in google maps then.

    G

Unfortunately not that simple since support crew are not at any point allowed on the same roads that riders will use so we have very specific roads they have to take to get to check points. If we simply give pins, google map may guide the support crew onto roads they are not allowed to use. If you however have GPS software on your phone that can import a GPX file, you are welcome to use that.

  10. So you will need two gps devices for this race.

One for the rider that needs to navigate the route and another for your support vehicle to get to the checkpoints as they can't follow the riders out on the route or are the checkpoints on main routes?

That is correct. The riders will receive their route file and the support vehicles will receive another file. Support riders will also receive a map but it is strongly recommended that they also rather use a GPS device to make sure they get to the check-points easily and in time.

  11. Eveza, would you please give a bit of a description of the 4 support table that would be available?

Will it mostly be water and sweets? Or will there be something like boerie-rolls and banana bread?

The support tables (with the exception of the 3rd on at Loskop) will have the normal stuff like water, coke, bananas, potatoes, jelly babies, etc. The water tables are also the check-in points where both you and your support crew has to check-in. It is the responsibility of your support vehicle to supply you with all the food and extra nutrition you will need.

  12. Yes, we had a fully subscribed race at 1500 riders and another 450 on the waiting list. We asked through numerous platforms for people to let us know if they wont be attending anymore so that we could pass it on to very eager people on the waiting list. On the morning, almost 400 people did not pitch. For us as the organizer, that was certainly a disappointment and it caused quite a bit of unnecessary wastage of water table products, medals, etc. I suppose that is what will happen if something is for free but sadly it took away the opportunity for someone else to be part of this.
