  1. I was asked by Paul to please post this notice of the cameras and try and get as many as possible mountain bikers and hikers aware of it. Only detail I have of Paul is what is posted there. Sorry guys, you'll have to mail him if you'd like more info: paulf@journeysend.co.za
  2. Due to the current high activity of leopards in the area Nature Conservation and the City of Cape Town has erected numerous cameras along popular mtb and hiking roads in the basin of the Sir Lowry's pass area. Please urge all people to not interfere with these cameras, as it is essential that the C N knows the number of animals in the area. Also could they please contact me if they spot any leopard in the area of Sir Lowry’s Pass. My contact detail is Paul Fourie 0828730212 or paulf@journeysend.co.za
  3. this is my very first year that I'm doing XCO and loving it!!! As Cheryl said, try racing it and it gets hard and it hurts....but oh it was fun!!
  4. Please lets all rather than complain complete the PPA Survey!!! https://surveys.sun.ac.za/Survey.aspx?s=32ecd98f0a9548d1b2589ed97d69be72 All of us!!
  5. http://www.easygadget.co.za/bike-lights.html is this a not a good price? Does anyone know what these lights go for?
  6. What first needs to happen (and this will take some time) is cyclists need to register with Roag (free) , they will do the on-line entries for events and these results will then be used for a seeding system, Roag and SA Seeding work together. So yes event organisers will have to work together to make this possible. In my mind it is the least they can do as without cyclists they will have no events and I also feel that the cyclists has been at the short end way too long. BUT yes in theory this can work but we need the support of the cyclists to get this right! We have had a meeting with PPA and will keep cyclists posted on this.
  7. Seeding will be done via SA Seeding. They do the seeding for all the league races as well as many other big events.
  8. Please would you go and rate last weekends mtb events? Keeromberg and Amarider 100 Miler We are trying to build a rating on type of terrain on mtb events in the Western Cape. http://www.wcmtb.co.za/RateRace.aspx
  9. We (WCMBC) are encouraging more techinical races as we need to move closer to UCI standards. There will always be a good mix of races out there, we just need to label them right. the last thing you want is a family with small kids pitching up for a race that is really techinical. Obviously they're also waisting time and money going out to such an event and the same goes for your really techinical riders rocking up for a 1 star event and getting bored out of his/her mind! Maybe we can start this by getting feedback from riders about events up on the www.wcmtb.co.za website, you rate the technicality of the event and we confirm this from the event organisers? Sporty what do you say? Is it possible?knippie2010-05-27 04:27:35
  10. Free and Fair Seeding for MTBikers in the WC Western Cape MTB Commission is working on bringing the cyclists Free and fair seeding! You think this isn't possible? Well your wrong, with the help of all mountain bikers and event organisers every mountain biker can have free seeding for local and national events. No timing chip needed, no paying membership to get this. how? http://www.wcmtb.co.za/Seeding.aspx If you still wonder why you should register on the WCMTB website then you know now, the more members the more we can get done! And it's not going to cost you anything!
  11. Western Cape MTB Commission is working on a Technical Rating System. Events will be rated from 1 to 4 s. 1 = open provincial roads 2 = provincial roads with some jeep track 3 = mostly jeep track, could have single track, rated technical 4 = single track, jeep track, your typical XCO event TECHNICAL Event Organisers will be asked to give a description of their traisl for 2011 sanctioning of events. hope this makes sense? www.wcmtb.co.za knippie2010-05-27 03:34:54

  19. I've had mine for 18 months now....I'm loving it!! I use for different things: I love the virtual partner, though it almost sometimes kills me I design routes for races on google, download and go ride it, sometimes the trails isn't visible anymore and the 705 tells me where it was I track everything I ride and connect the dots to form new trails on Sport Tracks I compare trails I've done and the time it took me to do it at certain times of the year. I guess it depends if you like gadgets or not..... !! The best gadget since my PowerTap!

  21. Race or Adventure?
  22. There are lots of issues that needs discussion and some serious attention re funrides, ppa etc etc. We will get to this from next week onwards and would like to get as much as possible input from clubs. But for tomorrow night, first things first. The next meeting will be next week Wednesday or Thursday and Chris Basson and Grevile will attend. We will get the rules and regulations sorted out and see which clubs are interested to host 1 of the 5 Wp XC lap races we'r planning on doing for 2010. I'll make sure we bring some leka plunger coffee along! Life is too short for bad coffee and single ply toilet paper....
  23. We're inviting all mtb clubs in the WP to join tomorrow evening's meeting in Vredekloof Brackenfell. The aim of this meeting is to choose a new mtb commission and from there try and get "things" in the WP sorted out. I've sent mails to as many mtb clubs as I could find, but if I somehow missed a club, please you are more than welcome to send a representative to this meeting. The more club representatives the better chance (hopefully) to find enthusiastic people to come aboard. We have full cooperation from Chris Basson (CSA WP president) As you may or may not be aware of: we have dates on the calendar for WP mtb league, but NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING was done about any events for 2010. Though it might be a bit late, a few of us has decided to try our best to still get something off the ground for 2010. Address: Vredekloof street no 8 Vredekloof Heights Brackenfell 7pm
  24. There will be a WP Mtb League meeting held at the Velodrome on the 25th January (Monday) @ 7pm re the state of the WP League. Please all club representatives if you have any thing to say about the state of the WP calendar and the lack of any league races for 2010 (except for DH, thanks to Chris Nixon) then please attend this meeting!! Chris Basson from CSA will be there. We cannot complain about the state of the calendar etc etc and not attend these meetings and have your voices heard!
  25. This firts incident is taking place in the Cape Gate area and the shooting was there as well, I know the people personally so I know it to be factual. It is all sick!!!!!!
