  1. Hey Intern, speaking of Whakatane We're going to be in Napier for a week or so over Christmas, and then up to Oputere for the first week of the new year so we have a week or so in between to kill - we can either go home and catch up on stuff, or stop off some where in between - maybe some where on the East Cape. Are there any places around there that you'd reckon are particularly worth a visit. Camping is fine. Otherwise might try get a site in Stony Bay or Fletcher Bay on the Coromandel...
  2. I don't really know. I didn't much notice until my hand started going vrot... antibiotics fixed it quick sticks tho. Actually what made me pay attention was that the tendon in one of my fingers got stuck in it's tunnel near the bite, and when I opened my hand, the whole skin on the back of my hand would move back with the tendon. Was a bit freaky. Seems to have gone back to normal thank goodness.
  3. Another Bad/Good/Strange... Bad: spiders. They bite. Good: they know how to treat you Strange: you can claim against ACC - the govt accident compensation thingy - 'because you didn't intend to get bitten by a spider, so it's an accident'. Howcome if I don't intend to get cancer it wouldn't be an accident. However, I'm not complaining. Luckily I don't seem to need need any ACC'ing.
  4. Yep, Daifuku. Next time you're around give me a shout and we'll go catch some sushi down the road or get a coffee or something...
  5. Ironically enough, and even though it's not what you are looking for, I just took this from a meeting room while waiting for the convenor to arrive. This is Rosedale, slightly like the Auckland equivalent of Sandton. 6 mins from home.
  6. Yeah, and: "ran hot, detonated fiercely, stalled constantly and seized regularly." I have no idea why I want one, but I do.
  7. There's one of these for sale on TradeMe - I'd never heard of them so had a google. When I'm rich and my garage needs filling I think I might have to hunt one down - you can see where the XT500 came from... https://silodrome.com/yamaha-sc500/
  8. Doctor prices: doctorpricer.co.nz $18 to $64.50 within 10km.
  9. Yeh, that's Auckland. Whatever it's doing now, well it won't be doing that in 15 mins. Went to U2 - left on nice sunny afternoon, didn't take rain stuff, got into stadium looking up at the biggest wall of black cloud I've seen in a while. Didn't rain thank goodness, but taught me once again not to take the current weather for granted.
  10. Rentals - we are due to renew in Feb. We are going to bring out my aged parents about then for a visit and didn't want to be having to move house at that stage so asked the agent what the owners plans were for renewal. They have offered us another fixed term contract for a year at same rate. Is this normal - do you extend contracts by a year or go on to a monthly rolling deal?
  11. NZD15k for a used DRZ400. Seems a tad over-capitalized... https://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=2371167980&member_hash=6e699661a158085d4114c1b6c816a0fa6fec5887622f50a26c&tm=email&et=46&mt=539CE1D7-7516-41CE-822F-DA08A48588AB
  12. Driving down the south coast 100 years ago when I was a student at PMB - couple of buddies and I are quaffing a few beers on the road. Cop van pulls up next to us, motions for us to wind down the window, passes us a six-pack, takes off. True story.
  13. It's amazing how often it's just one thing, but that one thing is a life saver. For me, in the UK, it was 'make eye contact with anyone who has the potential to flatten you' - i.e. at an intersection, any car that will turn in your path. The reasoning being, that if you've made eye contact, they've 'seen' you. If you can't make eye contact, assume they have not seen you, and act accordingly. The number of times I've made eye contact and the driver has visibly reacted shows how often they just don't see you until you make yourself obvious - by the eye contact thing. It's not a staring competition or anything, just enough so that you know they've seen you. Works for cycling too.
  14. A whole lot of nope.
  15. Badly written. Could also indicate you can't overtake of you're two-up? Which would be daft.
  16. You left out "and paint it Kawa green..."
  17. Used BT56's on a Suzuki Bandit in the UK. Worked well enough for me.
  18. But speaking from exactly one year's experience(!) summer here is pretty good - we had sunny days most of summer, winter gets a bit drab. The Kiwis all seem to shoot off to Bali/Fiji/Hawaii come end of Sept which is when it's been drab for a while. Same as the Poms all heading for warmer climes in Feb. We went to Karikari because we don't know better... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrtFv4xXdcY&feature=youtu.be (sound on for the kids commentary) ** damn, how do you embed youtube videos?
  19. My kids are currently going to the MERC - Marine Education and Recreation Centre - where they run around outside / paddle board / kayak etc. My son, who's skin is pretty sun resistant, got fried. We normally don't much worry about him as his sister is the opposite - fair skin (they're twins, before anyone gets in with the milk-man comments...) but from now on he's gonna get pasted with sun screen as well. The sun here has a bite. Not much ozone above us apparently.
  20. I have to admit, it looked k4k...
  21. I once rebuilt an XT500 and painted it Kawa green because I really like the colour. Confused a lot of folk.
  22. Damn... Riverhead?
  23. Push slowly till you feel the compression, let the lever rise up a bit, whack it. If you are worried, put your foot half off the lever, if it kicks, it throws your foot off sideways.
  24. That's not a bad idea. Could get a fright now and then depending what's going on in their lives...?
