  1. Apparently one of the options one has when a Tesla (and I suppose the others too) gets to full self-drive mode is to tell your car to take you to work and then go and uber while you're working and then come back and fetch you to take you home. I suppose you could then tell it to sod off and carry on ubering once you're home. It's going to be an interesting new world...
  2. Bank acc question: I'm getting reamed by my SA bank in terms of charges. The crowd we spoke to re financial emigration have a deal with Bidvest where they open you an account for free and then charge you R100 per transaction. Sounds rediculous, but I have approx one transaction a month - cash to my mother - and that's it. R100 / month is way less than I am paying RMB for an account I don't much use. I need an account until SARS is sorted out and FE completed. Does this sound like a dumb deal? I should have opened a Capitec account before I left...
  3. I used Jucy when we arrived. Was the cheapest I could find at the time, from SA.
  4. That's frkn awesome...!! Gets back on to trademe...
  5. Here's an event that sounds worth a visit... http://www.bikebound.com/2019/08/17/malle-mile-2019/
  6. Back in the day, Scottoiler.Pretty much fit and forget. Cleaning and oiling chains has no appeal for me.
  7. SA taxis would be all over it...
  8. I've had a couple XT500s. Just really like the genre.
  9. That's a damn fine video/series...That NX Express route is soooo tempting. Figure you've got to do it once in your life... [emoji848]
  10. This is a damn fine price for NZ. Given the choice, I'd lean towards 650 just due to less 'buzzing' when riding longer distances. Currently I work just about in walking distance from home. Need to get a new job out of walking/bus lane reach, then I 'have' to buy a commuter...
  11. How'm I going to squeeze this into the garage without the missus noticing... https://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=2280599657&tm=email&et=45&mt=539CE1D7-7516-41CE-822F-DA08A48588AB
  12. I love 'em, but it's from my era. Is R road legal tho'? It's not a L?
  13. Yeah, I did. Went across a long while ago for a look see. At the time Nortel had laid off a huge number of their IT staff and the likelihood of getting an IT job at the time was unlikely, so canned it. I don't think there is much in it. NZ: more similar to what we are used to. Probably would make more financial sense to live in Aus. Canada: bigger economy. Probably would make more financial sense to live in the US. Both got sensible people, nice societies. NZ got fewer bugs in summer. Canada can be a killer - Africans have no idea of a mosquito, and don't know what Black flies are.
  14. The playgrounds take a bit of getting used to. That net structure on the tower at Takapuna Beach is something else.
  15. Nice bike for the U.K. I had a 600 which was supposed to be the perfect size for U.K. riding but I found it just a bit short on poke for long trips, too big for city riding. Figured that if I did that again I'd go bigger for proper riding, and get a potent little two stroke scooter for town. (Town for me was London.)
  16. Damn. So.Much.Stuff.To.Spend.Money.On.
  17. Torpedo7 make bike jacks?
  18. Don't don't don't don't don't don't don't aaaaarrrghhh... fukkit. Unlike cropping, which kills nothing?
  19. Can't be as bad as Spur in Auckland...
  20. Do I have to go fetch it? That might just seal the deal, I've never been to the SI... So, how much does a divorce cost these days anyway..?
  21. I don't buy the 'eat meat in moderation' stuff either. There is mounting evidence of the bad press against it being a pile of hogwash. So here's a thought: You can eat only rib eyes, and thrive. No supplements, no fancy preparation. Maybe some salt. You can't do that vegan. Unpalatable, need to be concious of nutritional deficiencies. So the real truth of the matter is that you should probably be eating meat, with veg in moderation... It's pretty much what I'm swinging towards.
  22. Oh ok. I'm not really rallying hard, I'm just trying to provide some fodder against specious arguments that end up 'and so we should all be vegan.' I suppose the irony is that folk don't like the idea of killing cows bit are quite happy with the entire destruction of everything that is involved in growing crops? And then the on going poisoning of everything including ironically, us. There is no free pass when it comes to food production, something dies. Odinson has said that veganism is an ethical choice and that's the crux of it - it's essentially an emotional choice. Given that it's so hard to remain healthy long term on it, and make it palatable, it's a real sacrifice. And then it starts becoming a religion. All the other justifications that go on around it are pretty specious on any investigation.
  23. If we talk beef, they and their moms, mostly all live on ranches, using land that mostly can't be cropped (because if it could be, it would be) sequestering away carbon. They get taken to feedlots to be fattened for a few months prior to slaughter (what the media likes to call factory farms because it triggers people and gets clicks or something.) Is this a strong argument for veganism?
  24. You could always leave it there and then you have your NI and SI bikes. A bit like having a bach, but different...!
