  1. Hmmm. I may not be the best 'control' model for this whole debate!! I see I'm gonna eat my own words here, but I'm man enough to admit it! My very first time I gave a drug test, it took almost 6hours!! I was very nervous, and when the tester kept smiling at me, while looking at my _____, it made it even worse!! However, I'm now down to record times! But blood is as quick as the confidence of the tester!! Test duration really depends on the person being tested. I have many an opinion on how to make it easier, and more comfortable for the rider...but thats another thread!!
  2. I'm extracting myself from this thread now!! Before it becomes a 'Bloods & Crips' issue!!!
  3. "Eina" would have been his reply!!
  4. If you read FIASM's link, it say's he was "planning" the funeral. Not at the actual funeral from what I can determine. But it remains a very poor judgement on behalf of the testers...
  5. I think a lot of the time, the testers treat the athletes like they are already guilty of doping. And the second they try to postpone the test, they look like they are hiding something. But with a bit of research, and timing the tests can be done quite easily and without any drama. I know of someone who was approached while he was at gym. Had to give the test there and then(in SA)
  6. I'm gonna play Devils advocate here!! I think a drug test is in fact a very easy thing to give, and simple without fuss. If they arrived at the crematorium, they are out of line. But if they pitched up 30mins prior to Van Impe leaving his house, he could have given a test without any real hinderance or hassle. He knows he's got to give the test regardless of wether iths then, or that afternoon. Why not just get it over and done with? A bit of urine, a quick draw of blood and they are outta your hair...
  7. Willehond, I could not agree with you more. The riders take the drugs in secret, but complain when they are tested without warning. As I said, when you agree to the conditions of the licence, accept the written clause that states they can test you anywhere, anytime. But the crematorium is out of line. Thats a disgrace.
  8. I dunno hey SP?! Theres something very unappealing about urinating in front of someone!!Even worse if she's from Pez's!!
  9. I've been tested SO many times. And I must admit, they were always very good with me. I do feel that as an athlete, if we accept the terms of our licence, its very easy to give a test. But its wrong to go about it that way. And hell, if a woman appeared to monitor my test, sheesh...WADA would be ruined!!! Its called 'human rights'...something I think a lot of these sporting codes seem to think they can override...
  10. Thanks guys... Its crazy that DHL are asking that amount. I actually laughed at my mate (DAsh82) last week when he was quoted R3k+ to have a bike sent up from Cape Town! I said "no ways, thats highway robbery" But when I went the other day it was the same story. Your not half wrong about flying it down myself for cheaper FanieFiets!! I'm sure that would be cheaper. But thanks for the advice & the PM's...
  11. I am trying to get a bike down to Dylan Keyter in the Cape Town area. I'm in JHB...and I have used DHL in the past, never costing me more than R300-R400. Now when I went on friday, they want to charge me in excess of R3000. My mate had the same problem last week as well. Does anyone know of a courier service that is cheaper, and still decent? I'd greatly appreciate (as would Dylan) any helpfull info...
  12. The pass is 15km? Then it becomes gravel?! Where exactly is this in the WC?? Its beautifull...
  13. Nice photos. That looks like such a nice place to ride...
  14. Thats terrible...
  15. Yip, thats correct Bob. Did anyone ever see the 1991 Tour Du Pont? Holy crap, there was a really bad crash with a guy totally unaware that there were guys passing on his inside!! He just veered straight in front of them and POW!!! The whole bunch was down!!
  16. You believe everything you read Johan. Thats why you continue to contradict what we are saying. Black stuff? JB I mean no disrespect, and I always have my humour hat on, but where on earth do you get this from? Your in the wrong post here bud. I cant take advice on racing wheels from a man who RIDES in slops. Sorry.
  17. They makes us stupid? Johan...I'm going to give you a little insight here. Most of the people here that have commented have the experience of actually racing on tubulars. In all fairness (& I believe you are fair) you cannot comment here. You have not raced on tubulars. You have ridden a set that did not belong to you, as you stated. Therefore, we are the 'enlightened' ones here. This is something that could go on, & on,& on. I accept that you are well versed in mechanical things, and I read most of your postings with great respect and awe. But with your last post I was not entertained, and I really did lose some respect for you. I'm not stupid, even though I'm a mag reader! But to slate us because of our experience is a little out of line, especially when you are speaking out of inexperience. But, I would be interested to hear more about your claim in the 5th point. How can you prove that very point? And why Shellac? Yours sincerely Stupid Simon "the mag reader"
  18. Beer & Boerewors!!! Thats funny!!
  19. Yes Marius. No doubt. In medicine we call it "signs & symptoms"... one cannot exist without the other.
  20. Also try dropping R100 notes onto an open fire!! Thats cycling bud...you'll never be free of it! Mampara gave good advice though...
  21. Cancer can afflict at any age, granted. But the type of cancer Lance had, and the level of aggression could (I said could) be related to certain PED's. But it could (like his athletic ability) have been an abberation of nature...
  22. I often ask myself..."Just how did the cancer get there in the first place?!"
  23. You seriously need a hobby bud!!
  24. Ok, honestly now...who takes Armstrong seriously these days?!
  25. Christie, I've often thought that!! Its becoming very apparent just how many teams are losing their sponsors due to the negative image of doping. CSC, T-Mobile...its a problem the riders never considered.
