  1. I would think a life jacket is in order. Surfing anyone?
  2. Do you okes actually work? I did some honest work, and suddenly this thread is 3 pages longer ...
  3. Patch, you are a marketer's dream customer.
  4. Next they will take out all the jumps and drops on MTB races to cater for the roadies.
  5. This is all I was asking for. And maybe a change to the start to exclude going under the civic centre. Losing the R2000 for entries for the family I can live with.
  6. Wifey is back. Her assessment is that it would have been very difficult for her to make it to Smits against the wind in time for the cut-off at 14h00 at the halfway waterpoint if they started just before 10h00.
  7. Didn't the Argus used to held on Easter weekend?
  8. It is not a strike or industrial action. It is about being neglected by the WC government for years.
  9. My wife decided to prove a point about mere mortals riding in this wind. She would have done her first yesterday. She went for a ride from Strand to Hels and back, stopping at M&B (where she was right now) on the way back. She is a tough bugger. Have only been riding for 2 years, but already biting large chunks of the pie.
  10. Too much traffic problems will be caused if you cut-off traffic flow through Buitengracht.
  11. Surprise. The protesting has now moved to the N2.
  12. If the WC government does not sort this out now, the protests will be back next year. This protest today has the BFLF movement's fingerprints all over it. Even if the weather was perfect today, the race would have still been in jeopardy because of the protests.
  13. Hubbers used to make fun of people looking at the weather predictions before the race. In future we will monitor the prediction with trepidation.
  14. I think for the foreseeable future we will stay with the MTB races. At least they don't get cancelled when conditions gets tough. Already entered for the 99er later in April. I think I will try and ride Helderberg with my MTB this arvie late to get this out of my system. At least my MTB still has it's knobblies on.
  15. I can't even take the family with MTBs on Helderberg this afternoon. With sweat, French and busted fingers plus 2 broken tyre levers I managed to get 4 slicks onto 4 MTB rims yesterday. I don't have the mental and emotional energy to put the knobblies back on this afternoon. Oh, joy, the wind has dropped quite a bit here in Strand. I bet it is peach of a day at Jonkers.
  16. Is this then officially the 40th, and will I thus be credited with my 6th? Or is next year officially then the 40th?
  17. I understand the fact that no refunds will be given, but at least they could have provided some sort of redemption by giving all of this year's entrants first option on the entries for next year in their lottery process.
  18. Is of a few weeks back when the winds were terrible in the Boland. I think the same day as the bad fires in Du Toits and Paarl. Wind today is not as bad in the Boland as it is in the Peninsula.
  19. I believe they should move the start anyways, maybe even closer to the stadium where it finishes.
  20. Ja, Windguru underquoted and Mother Nature over delivered. Wind bad, but not so bad here in Strand. About 50km/h here. As usuall with the SE it is the gusts that are the problem.
  21. I still owe you some awesome Cappuccino. I think we have collected a fair bit of points for some rigourous debate. Hopefully next time I won't suck up Hels.
  22. LOL. It was not good beach weather though. Maybe if you had a kite.
  23. Yes, we do however believe that participating in this event is showing compassion. And maybe that message is not getting to the communities. And we all trust that the PPA is getting the money to the charities. And not all of us participating are this fortunate either to be able to sip on expensive beer. On the way back, I saw a bloke driving back to the Cape Flats in his busted old Passat, with a cheapy MTB strapped to the back of the car. He probably saved all year last year to be able to afford the entry fee. I am already over my disappointment. I am not sure how that poor bloke will handle it.
  24. It is funny that all of the videos are of the cursed wind tunnel. Most of the roads were actually quite fine. Our cycle back to the Waterfront was quite chilled, except for one idiot motorist in a BMW X3 that wanted to drive over a few cyclists.
  25. Yes Patch, but in this country we will always have the haves and the have nots. It is the very nature of this world, and especially the 3rd world. Does this mean that we are then not allowed to have a mass participation cycling event where most of the money gets plowed back into charities and the community? If this is so, I spell a bleak future for this event, and the country as a whole. It is time the WC government get off their backsides that they have been patting so much lately for doing a good job, and get their fingers on the pulse of the poorer communities.
