  1. Hi guys. I got 2 vintage humbrol/raleigh bikes that I might consider restoring or selling. What could they be worth before and after full restoration? Any advice or potential buyers are welcome.
  2. Hi, guys. I thought I 'd share what I've done to my cheap bike to make it ride better. It started its life as a shimano tourney 3×7 drivetrain with the worst tyres ever. The shifts were so violent that I often slipped off the pedals. And the tyres started ripping from the side. I got a lot of wrist pain from the unresposive fork, but the esi grips took that away and gave me too much confidence🤣 I had to buy a rear wheel with a HG freehub, since the previous wheel was only compatible with freewheels. Not to mention the fact that the axle had to be replaced like 3 times due to snapping. Yes I abused the bike a lot. I used to be a student at NWU in Potchefstroom and I liked riding like a hooligan😅 Used it for all my transport needs. The new rear wheel has proven to be reliable and still true, albeit some unknown Chinese brand naned Shunfeng🤣. I had to upgrade the mech brakes and drivetrain simultaneously because the brake lever and shifter were one piece. I had to buy a basic bike toolkit first and learn from youtube how to install a drivetrain. So I bought a 1×10 shimano deore from the previous gen with the onboard derailleur hanger. But the cassette was too large for the derailleur to accommodate so a long screw had to be used to make it work. Which lived bending. Not to mention the chain moving to a smaller gear from the biggest when back pedaling. I took the single chainring crankset off and installed an overkill shimano slx crankset. Which made it pop. But I didnt want such a great cimponent to not enjoy its full potential. Eventually sold the slx and bought a 1×11 sram nx groupset. Which has been great so far. I love the locking mechanism on the derailleur. And it shifts much better. There are more upgrades needed when funds becime available. I'll update when that happens. Any suggestions?
  3. Has anyone bought bike parts from Temu, Aliexpress? What was your experience? Is it trustworthy?
  4. Hi I'm thinking of selling these compo ents after a recent upgrade for my bike. Could someone tell me what it might be worth? Components include: 2 mechanical disc calipers 1 10 speed bravvos cassette 160mm brake rotor 10 speed shimano derailleur with clutch. 10 speed shimano shifter Left 2 spd & 3 spd shifter 10 spd chain new 6 spd freewheel 3 chainring square taper crank Stem Handlebar 7 spd shimano derailleur sealed square bb 3×7 shifter and brake Thank you
  5. That is a very exotic fork. I think it’s what pushed the price to that point. If the bike suits your intentions than pull the trigger. I wouldn’t use it for anything execpt XC though.
  6. I was lucky enough to find the specified derailleur at Olympic Cycles. I will update you guys once the project is completed and whether I’ve made a profit or not. Danko.
  7. Hi guys So I’m doing a major overhaul on a Totem XC100 26 bicycle that was bought at Makro back in 2012. The goal is to hopefully sell it for profit. Anyways, I want to replace the existing derailleur for something better but they all screw on and dont have the hanger attached to them. I was wondering if someone could please advise me on where I could get such a hanger. Much appreciated.
  8. Awesome sauce!
  9. Thank you Sir. This is a great offer to learn from a seasoned mtb'er. I reside in Pretoria
  10. Yes Sir. I bought a cheap repair kit to install the parts with. Im a bit nervous to install the chain incorrectly but park tool has been quite helpful so far. I will post the before and after when Ive done it.
  11. Greetings my fellow cycling enthusiasts. I would like to make a confession... I have an obsession with the mountain bike discipline. I have been searching and learning a lot about brands and everything else the industry offers. I spend a lot of my time reading and watching videos about mountain bikes on many youtube channels such as: berm peak, berm peak express, gmbn tech, pinkbike and park tool to name a few. There is very little that I dont know about the various components and their compatabilities. I often compare different bikes on websites loke vitalmtb and 99spokes. The irony is that Ive never truly had a mountain biking experience before. I bought an alloy hardtail from my lbs for 3000 and Ive been slowly upgrading it. Yoy wouldnt believe how catastrophically the rear hub failed lol. Im very much looking forward to installing a new shimano deore 10spd drivetrain. I even made a list of components that I would put on my dream mtb. Brands such as shimano, ohlins, trickstuff, rockshox or fox and other boutique brands lol. If I had money to buy a super expensive bike, I would put it in my lounge to stare at during load shedding lol. Im even considering becoming a bike mechanic. Is there something wrong with me to be this intensely obsessed? I would love to hear your thoughts. Im a 22 year old guy. Happy riding
  12. Hi all I want to upgrade my bike from mech to hydraulic brakes. My budget is limited to about R1500. Which brakes should I buy? I’m not too concerned about ease of installation. I just want reliability and serviceability to be hassle free. I’ve looked at brakes such as Tektro and Shimano mt200, but I don’t know where to buy them. Thank you
