  2. Hi All, I am trying to source a new groupset (SRAM or Shimano (disc)) for a road bike. Due to supply issues, there is absolutely no stock in SA. Has anyone recently purchased a groupset and if so, where did you find stock (and how did you bring it to SA).

  6. Hi all I want to upgrade my bike from mech to hydraulic brakes. My budget is limited to about R1500. Which brakes should I buy? I’m not too concerned about ease of installation. I just want reliability and serviceability to be hassle free. I’ve looked at brakes such as Tektro and Shimano mt200, but I don’t know where to buy them. Thank you
  7. Hi Guys, I have a Sram S80 rear wheel. I need 3x drive side and 3x non-drive side spokes to complete this wheel. I found a new hub for it and would like to build it. They don have to be brand new. Thank you
  8. Hi, guys. I thought I 'd share what I've done to my cheap bike to make it ride better. It started its life as a shimano tourney 3×7 drivetrain with the worst tyres ever. The shifts were so violent that I often slipped off the pedals. And the tyres started ripping from the side. I got a lot of wrist pain from the unresposive fork, but the esi grips took that away and gave me too much confidence🤣 I had to buy a rear wheel with a HG freehub, since the previous wheel was only compatible with freewheels. Not to mention the fact that the axle had to be replaced like 3 times due to snapping. Yes I abused the bike a lot. I used to be a student at NWU in Potchefstroom and I liked riding like a hooligan😅 Used it for all my transport needs. The new rear wheel has proven to be reliable and still true, albeit some unknown Chinese brand naned Shunfeng🤣. I had to upgrade the mech brakes and drivetrain simultaneously because the brake lever and shifter were one piece. I had to buy a basic bike toolkit first and learn from youtube how to install a drivetrain. So I bought a 1×10 shimano deore from the previous gen with the onboard derailleur hanger. But the cassette was too large for the derailleur to accommodate so a long screw had to be used to make it work. Which lived bending. Not to mention the chain moving to a smaller gear from the biggest when back pedaling. I took the single chainring crankset off and installed an overkill shimano slx crankset. Which made it pop. But I didnt want such a great cimponent to not enjoy its full potential. Eventually sold the slx and bought a 1×11 sram nx groupset. Which has been great so far. I love the locking mechanism on the derailleur. And it shifts much better. There are more upgrades needed when funds becime available. I'll update when that happens. Any suggestions?
  9. I've had excellent results from my previous Sram drivetrains. My last moutainbike cassette did over 10000km, without slipping at all, when I used 3 GX chains rotated religiously between 700 and 800 km. My current gravel bike Red chain is at 13500km and cassette is at 14400 km with zero slipping, but I let the chain run just to .5 at about 11000 km and found that the cassette wouldn't take another chain, so Im just running it out. My current Epic started slipping only when under heavy load only in the 3rd smallest gear at about 2500km. By that age it had an xx1 chain that had done 1600km. I checked everything. Nothing was out of adjustment so I put up with it to just over 5000km. And then I annoyingly replaced the cassette and xx1 chain and chainring. It's now done under 1500km and is slipping again on the same gear!!! I checked everything, but this time took it to my local bike shop, where a lifelong bike mechanic checked it all, replaced the jockey pulleys and gave it a tweak. Its was fine for a while, but is slipping again. Im finding it hard to understand it is giving problems so quickly when the others have been treated exactly the same.

  11. Hey everyone im busy building up a pyga slakline and for the time being I am going to be using 2 pot brakes but I want to upgrade my budget is under 5k any ideas?
  12. I have decided I want to also run a 200mm rotor on the rear of my Enduro bike, I'm currently using Sram Code RSC brakes. When looking at the price of rotors, Shimano and TRP are similar in price however Sram is about 50% more than the aforementioned brands, are the Sram rotors worth the extra cash? Do they perform better/last longer? Alternatively is there another brand I should look at?
  13. Since it's almost Friday I'll just leave these articles/videos here. Article mixing various Shimano/SRAM components: https://www.bebikes.com/the-hub/1mmtdv5ypu0vc1p4kze6r05wtxvufp This guy literally just swapped out his SRAM RD for a Shimano one - using a SRAM shifter.
