  1. Whoop whoop, it is going to be a cracker of a week, Omnium, Interprov, GP and Engen Cycle in the City. Lekker soos 'n cracker!
  2. That chain tensioner, what is it and where can I find it, looks neater than the back chain tensioner.
  3. Lazy Monday with my Iggies.
  4. The pitch is off, but the idea is perfect for getting ladies onto saddles and riding bicycles.
  5. Are you suggesting I am fat?! You did ask where the patronizing was in the text. I like working on my bike and my hands are likely to get full of oil as a consequence, ergo I like getting my hands dirty. Generally ALL cyclists tend to be nutrition conscious, not just the ladies.
  6. 1. No girl wants to get her hand dirty (assumes that all women are not tech savvy or clean savvy with bikes, the word girls .... only the female variety under 14 should be categorized as "girls" 2. Not just heaps of carbs (assumes all women are on diet) 3. OK, the wine is awesome, although this also assumes that all ladies drink wine, whereas would rather I fear not beer.
  7. I happen to like ladies only events, due to these events engaging more ladies cyclists. Some of the ladies are intimidated by "races" or "events" with the men on the trails. More is more when it comes to anything female cycling related. Granted some do ride and want a more competitive environment, however the vast majority just want to ride their bikes and have a good time. Yes, I do not like the patronizing wording of the event intro, again, we experience it on a daily basis so no change there anyway. I loved taking part in the "Women on the go" event this part Monday, it was a well organised event, female only and well attended. I had a very good time, even if I am not a mtb rider, with much skills. The ladies do race difference and oh boy, overtaking on single track does take some skill, lucky most of the ladies did not swear. LOL!
  8. No need for a new bike, as long as it fits the criteria then you may ride it in the races. No Brakes, No Gears. Helmet. With this particular bike you would be able to race it, no problem, quite a few people race old bikes on the track, perhaps not in mint condition, but it fits the criteria and it is safe, then race it.
  9. Durban went well, KZN Cycling knows how to organise an event, was wonderful to be there.
  10. Hi Ho Hi Ho off to Durban we go! Very excited!
  11. There is quite a few promising riders in track, the beauty of track it can accommodate individuals and team disciplines.
  12. I am not racing though, will be a manager that weekend. But still need to get fit anyway. LOL! Yes the racing is going to be great.
  13. That weekend is going to be super fun and super fast! Everything is booked and we are ready to go. Going to have so much fun there.
  14. Proper Italian Greyhound! Iggy's are the best! Enjoying him very much.
  15. My little guy, Sebastien, pretty little naughty.
  16. Done my level 1 coaching course, now looking to do the level 2 coaching, but need a little more experience though.
  17. This one is NOT on my bucket list, I have others, but not this one
  18. These bikes are super sick!!! I want.
  19. The boy has got some serious problems, abusing animals in their youth is indicative of severe mental illness, lock him up and never let him out again, plus lots of treatment and pills.
  20. Happy days, cyclists have won at the end of the day. All who are riding, have a fast and safe one.
  21. Ok bike is assembled, have to play a little with chain tension an/or chain tensioner, time will tell. Cranks a longer than my normal road bike or track bike can feel the difference. All good tho. Bike is going to be so much fun. The kids I. The complex love it too.
  22. Since most of my experience is with track bikes, I would like to try it without a tensioner and use a track specific chain etc. (have so many, might as well use them). The purpose is to have the chain not too tight, but it does not have to be so tight as one the track, as long as it does not slip or fall off when you to the wheel turning test (learnt it with the track bike) then you should be ok, I will not use it for racing, this machine is specifically JUST A TOY Will not be riding it as a fixie, I will however have make is a flip-flop hub, one side fixie and one side freewheel, everybody is happy and I have lots of choices. PS - it will have brakes, so not as dangerous if the chain falls off than with a track bike ... ouch
  23. I happen to have chain tensioner in the box of odds and sods bike spares. Of the 4 bikes I now own, 3 is single speed (new one, plus MTB and fixie (track), however thank you for the advise, Rapide looks like a wonderful supplier ... will try them out soon. Would it really need a chain tensioner if you are running a straight line, on bmx freewheel? Just to satisfy my own curiosity. My MTB is chain tensioned. Or I could just run the chains into the ground, until stretched and then put on a tensioner. :-)
  24. It fits, however there is some tension on the back, if there is too much tension (awaiting feedback from the cycle shop) then I will use normal road wheels. Or I may just change the hub setup slightly to accommodate it. As I say work in progress.
