  1. My goal is just to stay consistent. I don’t do well with structured interval training etc.. luckily I’m coming from many many years of non exercise and two decades of heavy smoking(about 18months off ciggies now).. so just getting up and on the bike regularly I’m seeing improvement in overall health, physique(63kg now, >70kg a couple years ago) and fitness(healthy lungs).. thats what really keeps me motivated.. when that stagnates I’ll rethink my approach to training.. for now, I cycle and if I’m feeling sassy I’ll push up a climb or sprint on a nice straight.. if not I sit back, relax, spin it out and enjoy the ride 🤘🏻🥳👍🏻 *only real goal is similar to yourself, to give myself the best chance at completing the 947 in a respectable time(3/3.5 hours🤷🏼‍♂️) or just comfortably depending on how this year treats me.. 😃 *forgot mental health benefits.. my (GAD)is waaay more manageable when consistently exercising
  2. Can we update this to include emotional injuries.?! ☠️🤣
  3. Buy it NOW.!!🤣🤣🤣
  4. not mad about the color but who cares that does look awesome.! Holding thumbs for you.. that’s a winner.!
  5. Sorry to be that guy.. but if at all you can up that budget a bit, maybe negotiate a bit of a lower price on these you’re options are far better than 15k.. in my opinion.. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/779952/specialized-allez-elite-e5 https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/776193/elite-titan-racing-road-bike https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/782140/merida-reacto-5000-ltd-lampre-edition
  6. Roubaix is the wrong size.. you can buy a 300k bike but if it’s the wrong size it’s always going to suck🤷🏼‍♂️
  7. Not a large(56) and most certainly not a 58.!! I’m 177 and a ride a 54, ideally a 53 but that’s because of my legs to torso ratio blah blah.. I always advise getting advice from a proper fitter though..
  8. Mellow velo is now a guy called Mitch.. Ruan Smit did take over Richard’s clients, but he operates from dunkeld on wednesdays and fridays.. and then at westdene cycles but I’m unsure of those days.. 👍🏻
  9. Service and grease your pedals
  10. When I looked into it I saw that they covered entry fees of events that get cancelled last minute as well and even your travel and hotel costs.. so that’s a good reason as well.. im looking right now at it and stumbled across this, hence my delayed comment🤣🤣🤣 also seeing on cyclesure they cover medical needs/disabilities from a crash.. household ain’t gonna do that.. anyone using cyclesure.?
  11. I use the muc off protector.. it’s good.. just don’t get it anywhere near you disc brakes.. I spray onto a microfiber cloth and polish that way..
  12. Mellow velo have a good fitter.. I personally use Ruan at dunkeld.. basic fit is about R900
  13. Who’s pulling the brakes on a trainer.?!😳😳 actually yeah I can see how that might happen.. 😉👍🏻 🤣🤣
  14. Yeah so my slip Boxing Day put my immune system in the toilet and I immediately have some kind of flu.. first ride of the year will be next week.. can not wait.!
  15. I am learning that this is happening to people all the time.. its heart breaking. stealing from myself and other hard working individuals is one thing but thinking you can also defraud some of the biggest car companies in the world and get away with it is just frightening.. stupidity or arrogance.? I just don't know.. I found myself in the perfect storm of a fraudulent business partner and then another business partner who is just a selfish scumbag that I believe is in the edge of being fraudulent himself, I have also told to go F&^K himself and have walked away from.. resulting in me having to voluntarily liquidate to satisfy creditors, moved into the in laws and must start all over again.. ive done it before, ill do it again.. I just hope everyone gets what they deserve, nothing more, nothing less..
  16. you are right and appreciate you saying so.. it will pass and is passing thanks to help from my family and the most vicious lawyer I have ever encountered is luckily on my side.. he is referred to as the Rottweiler of Sandton in his lawyers circle. hahaha I unfortunately did have a bad slip on Boxing Day, "how much more of this $h1t must i take.?" moment and just threw 8 years of sobriety down the toilet.. but we pick ourselves up and recovery is always possible thanks to my current support system.. the business partner who stole my entire estate is now a guest in the infamous "Sun City hotel".. so it could be worse, I could be him.! absolutely right.! respect to you for doing what needs to be done.. please look after yourself. but it sounds like you are.!
  17. Sorry to hear that.. there’s profound lessons or some rubbish in all this, 🤣🤣 I’m yet to see it but I have faith that they are there and will show themselves in due time.! ☠️🤣🤣
  18. Day one was unfortunately the first and last ride of the festive 500 for me.. this year has kicked my ass something silly.. many goals were not reached.. so what do I do.?!🤷🏼‍♂️ double those goals for next year.!! 🥳🤣🤣🤣
  19. Don’t fiddle if there are no bike shops near by😳 I had a front derailleur that wasn’t shifting into the big ring and it was a case of loosening the screw pulling the cable tight with some players and adjusting the limit screws.. I got lucky because it’s just happened again and I couldn’t sort it out.. took it in.. deraileur was trashed..
  20. If your new bars are causing your shifter to sit in a different position to the old ones the tension on your cables is going to be incorrect to function properly.. would be my first guess.. advice: just take it in.. you might fight with it for hours(I have done this) and then end up taking it in anyways where as your local will just sort it out quick sticks.. or they’ll pick up if anything else is wrong and advise from there.. 🤘🏻😉👍🏻
  21. Thats awesome.. its your challenge, do it how you want.. 🤘🏻🥳👍🏻 but thats impressive, well done..
  22. Please excuse my ignorance if completely wrong but looking at that set up, i feel thats a pretty aggressive set up you got there as well.?😰🤣
  23. My garmin strap hasnt given me a days trouble, or the unit, in about 2 years.. 6000ish kilometers.. replaced the batteries on it and a couple sensors middle of this year and thats been it.. all has worked flawlessly consistently
  24. My elevation gain was considerably higher over just the 100km done today.. 😳🤣
  25. I appreciate the time to message.! Honestly at this point im going to attempt to do the 500 but i have no idea what its going to look like.🤦‍♂️🤣 which is also kind of exciting.. enjoy it bud, and ride safe.! 🤘🏻🥳👍🏻
