  1. Craig isn’t riding this year. He is currently working on a project in Namibia

  3. Maybe the solution for the A->$ is treating some people as potential promotions and then some of the $ as relegation. ie, Top 10% of A can jump to $ and the bottom 10% of $ get relegated to A. The group doesn't just keep growing but allows for some movement between the two
  4. The front bunch at Cycle tour is 150, if you account for 40ish people for international, sponsors etc. Does that mean there are 110 guys who are under 3? Doesn’t seem likely
  5. My understanding is the beta and finish time adjustment is there way of getting a normal distribution out of the finishers. If the above is true, the weaker the field could sometimes result in a higher beta because less adjustment of the curve is required. Which essentially means the race was easier for the net effect of what your seeding is. An ELO style system that considers the field etc could be a nice addition
  6. The two things that I think make it difficult 1. There are far less races these days, so there is less opportunity to improve. 2. There feels like inconsistency, I’ve done other races that feel easier and have had much better beta and end up getting a good seeding. 🤷
  7. At this point, you might as well not even have this as a seeding race... To put it in perspective. Finishing in the bunch for the $ group. Gets you a seeding of ~7.5 Finishing in the bunch of the next group, %. Gets you a seeding of 14.5
  8. I think the confusion is if you want to be eligible for prize/cat positions. You should technically have a racing license
  9. Yeah the system isn't great. I did Durbie Dash, started in the 2nd start group and finished with the group. But the beta was so poor on that race it didn't help. Then the penalties for the previous 6 months start to kick in. With less races, I think they need to reevaulate the penalty period or mechanism for doing the seeding better
  10. Contact Alan winde, his email is public and make him put pressure on the police. Is there already a case and case number?
  11. A few bricks in the road in Camps Bay this morning. Very difficult to see them in the dark. Some riders from @Pure Savage went down. One in hospital with shoulder injury.
  12. Unlucky, I actually found & to be way better than 1C was last year. Hospital bend cones I think are much better solution than leaving it open. That definelty made that section feel safer. Ocean view to sun valley…. WTF! Those ******* roadwork things in the middle were an accident waiting to happen
  13. Honestly, they should neutralise the race for the first 10 groups all the way to UCT. Drive with a car in front till there at 30km/h. It really seems like the best way to mitigate all these issues. Doesn’t seem like it would be that difficult
  14. If you're riding in one of first few groups, ie &. How do you deal with warming up and getting in the chute early enough to be near the front? Anyone got some info and tips on how best to do this and how early to get in the chute.
  15. I was curious so want back all the way to 2016. Most of the front groups didn’t get more than 280. Most were 220ish. So whatever point you’re making isn’t true. the groups have definelty not been this big
  16. I'm in & but at this point I'm seriously considering not riding in the group. The problem is I've looked at the groups further back and they are also ±400 people as well. Not sure what options there are. Anyone else thinking of doing something else?
  17. Headwind out always makes for bigger bunches and a more unsafe tour 😞 don’t feel like a repeat of last year
  18. Bought my Propero 3 just a few weeks ago 😢
  19. here is the update from a group this morning He is medically stable and is being cared for by the trauma team at Christian Barnard. He has been seen by two of his medical friends and the situation is calm and under control. He was cycling down Chappies when a super bike was overtaking on a blind corner and hit head on. Anton Chait was fortunately behind him and a doctor was on the scene early. His chest and vital signs are all good. He has some significant facial fractures and has been sedated and ventilated to protect his brain and airways. He is having some scans and test and he will then be sent to ICU.
  20. Looking at the latest forecasts, the morning actually looks quite clear. You going to have a blast! 🔥
  21. As @MongooseMan has said, this is a tough situation for the organisers. Disaster management have made the call, probably the correct one. It's out of the organisers hands. We all get dissappointed and upset when the happens but ultimately safety is paramount and it always going to be tough with forecasts to know if you made it correctly with hindsight.
  22. Hi, Looking to finally upgrade my bike and at the moment my budget is ~R40k. I have seen these three options so far that seem to be comparabale 1. Titan Valerian Elite 2. Silverback Scarosso Rival 3. Merida Scultura 5000 4. Other? Recommendations. Also would be fine to look at second hand but ideally want new. Looking for something with hydralic disk and I am leaning towards the Titan at the moment. @Titan Racing Bikes maybe you can answer. The carbon wheels that come with the Valerian Elite, what are they comparable to? Matt
  23. Agreed, the coverage for the women has been poor. Some days they don't even cross over after the men finish.
  24. Results are out but my group is wrong. Lots of other people I know groups are also incorrect… Racetec things
