  1. Yep. In the ad, and in the messages I sent before I committed to it he reconfirms that it’s functional. I thought β€œfuntional” was a typo but maybe he thought it meant something else πŸ˜‚ Anyway, water under the bridge now. I’ll leave it hanging in my garage as a reminder to myself next time I see a β€œbargain”.
  2. Thanks Barry. Lesson learnt. Maybe I must take up fishing again to find a use for it. Or I’ll carry it around in the car and shove it out the window at people who upset me in traffic. Fork sakes.
  3. Yes that’s it. In my defence 😬 he had 5 stars and has been a member for an almost a year. When it comes to photos etc I try to remember that some folks do the best with what they have. I’ve found a few hidden gems over the years across my hobbies and interests lol and while I wasn’t expecting a diamond here I wasn’t quite expecting coal either πŸ˜‚ I believe that people are inherently good and it typically doesn’t let me down. A note to myself to ask for more photos even when I feel a perhaps misguided sense of empathy for someone. Else: expect coal!
  4. Ja I appreciate that. I’ve never had any issues before with anything else I’ve bought on the Hub or elsewhere tbh, so I wasn’t expecting something non-functional. Ugly/brand-less, sure, but completely poked wasn’t on my check list. School fees indeed. FWIW seller hasn’t responded to my message but has re-advertised something else since I sent the message, so I’ve done the review and that will be the end of that.
  5. Thank you. It feels the same in the hand as my β€œnew to me” Fox that I bought last year (which is an old F100 series). I think that’s why I feel sorry for it. I love my stuff and try to take care of it even when I’ve bought it second hand. This is a very unloved bit of kit. Poor fork. PS I wouldn’t have cared if it wasn’t a Fox. If it was ugly bit functional I’d have felt very pleased with myself lol.
  6. Best pics I could take. I can’t take a photo of the crunching noise it makes when I compress it and if I shake it there is an intermittent rattle inside but not sure if it’s in the lowers or part of the steerer.
  7. Ja… I guess this is the first time I’ve received something that’s been β€œless than” - mostly I’ve received exactly as or been pleasantly surprised. Eg I bought a platform carrier off marketplace yesterday and the guy was so cool and the rack is perfect. I’ve also bought a second hand fork from Zarras and been very happy. I’ve been happy with everything purchased via the Hub to date. Could well be a stolen part, I guess we’ll never know. I’ll see if it can be made functional but I’m not holding my breath, because of the paintwork. Sorry if it actually did belong to someone and got misappropriated at some point!
  8. Thanks @droo and other guys. I sent the seller a message last night but no reply as yet. I’ll give it until tomorrow before I do a rating - maybe he’s out of comms.
  9. I have horses and other animals that require hay, and I make it a habit to report obvious hay scams as I look for legitimate hay ads on Marketplace. I definitely saw the username Agrico on one of the scam ads. (a hay scam normally means people pay β€œtransport money” or a β€œholding deposit” to a hay supplier - their hay may be cheap or they may have stock when stock is scarce - no hay, there was never hay, it’s a scam, with the scammers using generic photos of hay or photos from other legitimate ads. Once you know what you’re looking for the scam ads are thankfully very obvious)
  10. Before I approach the seller I would like to ask if I am being unreasonable, and could use you guys’ help. I bought a cheap air fork off the Hub. It was shipped from another province. No issue with the purchase - seller comms good even when mine were bad due to being offline etc. The goal of the fork was to replace my daughter’s coil fork with an air fork and I would have sent this cheap fork in for a service etc before installing it. The fork was advertised as β€œUsed - good” and β€œwas told it is a Fox but not sure” and β€œit’s functional”. I was fine with all of this, even if it wasn’t a Fox. I had asked if it was tapered and realise now on going back through the convo that the steerer question wasn’t answered. I collected the fork from Postnet today. It may or may not be a Fox but that’s irrelevant. Where I’m a bit testy is that the lowers seem to have been spray painted, the stanchions are very worn, and the seals are painted over and perished. The fork does not compress properly when I press it into the floor. The adjusters up top are not adjustable and also appear to be painted over. It’s a straight steerer and not tapered. Now, I paid R400 plus R100 shipping. It would be nothing for an air fork in β€œUsed - good” condition. I was not expecting shiny and new, scratches/paint chips etc would have been fine. I really just wanted something functional - I could have slapped some unicorn decals onto an unbranded fork and my daughter would have been happy as. But am I being unreasonable in that I don’t feel that this fork is β€œUsed - good” nor functional? If I am not being unreasonable what is the route I take here - would I ship it back (at R65-R100 depending) and ask for a full refund? Or do I consider this school fees? I have not yet contacted the seller as I want to work out if I’m being a toolbag about this first.
  11. When I called the Clubhouse restaurant to do this a few months ago I was told there is now a booking deposit required of R250pp - might be misquoting the figure but them’s the rules now.
  12. Back pedalling is one of her favourite β€œtricks” so not an impossibility that she’s already pedalling it off a bit before she hits the rough. Good thinking. Let me monitor for a few days and see if I can work it out.
  13. ….hmmmmm though I don’t know if it’s dropping it at the top or bottom - I am guessing bottom - which I think complicates things.
  14. Thanks @droo - I understand. Chain guide it will be to get us through to when I can get the bike to RobertWhitehead to change the drivetrain! Thanks guys.
  15. Hi guys. Solution for narrow-wide chain ring for 8 speed (Microshift Mezzo) 1x bike that keeps dropping its chain over bumps? OEM chain ring is a Prowheel 32T 165mm. It’s not narrow-wide. OEM TR crank and crank arms. It was dropping it behind the ring so I put a chain catcher on. It’s dropping it less now but when it does it’s onto the crank arm and it’s still dropping it daily as my kiddo trundles over our dirt roads. Tried so far: removed 2 links from OEM chain - achieved less bounce but still dropped behind; fitted new chain (adjusted) at LBS - same outcome as OEM; now the chain catcher - better but still drops but now in front. So I’m thinking the new solution is a narrow-wide chain ring but what do I shop for? I am planning on changing the drivetrain as the Mezzo isn’t fantastic in general but until I do I’d like to keep riding instead of having to circle back and get my hands dirty lol - and let my kiddo enjoy bombing down hills which she’s currently apprehensive about. Kiddo will have the bike for at least a couple more years I think.
  16. It is only worth the total of its useful parts and I can only see the Mavic rims being useful to someone (unfortunately 26” bikes are a thing of the past except for some kids bikes). There are Mavic rims for sale on the Hub for around R1500. If the tyres are not perished you might get R2000. The rest of the bike doesn’t seem to have much value I’m afraid. The fork and other parts are largely redundant. I’d put it up for 3k and see if you get bites but realistically I think you can expect to get somewhere around R1000 on the Hub. I’m only a bit familiar with this as I’ve been looking for a bike for one of my staff members and your bike is exactly what I’m seeing being sold around the 1.8-2k mark. Anything above that is either not sold or ads are not being updated if the bike is sold.
  17. I’ll throw a spanner in the works and say that you could get a much better spec for your money if you ask one of the hubber bike builders. Some do it professionally, others do it as a hobby. Users on the hub that I’ve dealt with are RobertWhithead and BicycleYardZarras. I went new to start and probably won’t go new again because the value exists in second hand (imo). I do love my β€œold” (first) bike but it’s worth half what I paid for it, if even that, and my β€œnew-to-me” cost less than the first one did and is way better specced and far more reliable. You could probably spend 17-20k and get a nicely specced duel suspension for your money. (Incidentally I’m sitting here waiting for TCG to deliver my mate’s new Cannondale Scalpel Si HiMod which came in at a little over 20k delivered from the Cape and the spec is awesome (Deore 1x12, Magura fork, Rockshox at the back, Stans rims etc)) Just a thought!
  18. This face is very familiar - not in person, but linked to some other sort of completely unrelated scam. I want to say Jaco, but maybe I’m wrong.
  19. Did it the other day and absolutely loved it!
  20. Yep - I have a Lezyne taillight that basically explodes into pieces in my hand if I forget to veeeerrrrryyyy gently remove the micro USB charging cable. Have put it back together a number of times. Done it from the very first charge. No issue with the USB C ones.
