  3. My Epic Epic
  4. I was just curious. I do it all, but only count the time spent on the bike.
  5. Did it last year. All good dirt roads. Nothing technical
  6. After reading the topic about the Epic and training yesterday I was wondering............. What is the real definition of training hours per week. Is it only hours spend on the bike, or does it include all training done in a week ie, gym work, running?
  7. And I like your attitude towards work. Wish I could go to work like that.
  8. Met my vermoë om goed reg te maak, moet ek dalk maar 'n mechanic saamry.
  9. I don't like moaning. And would surely not consider myself a roadie. I prefer to stay positive and see each experience as an adventure. The more I think about it, the more I suspect the problem is me not knowing how to shift
  10. Klein meisies? Het ek jou nie Saterdag op een gesien nie? Hoe het dit toe gegaan?
  11. Crackbrother
  12. Bike is secondhand. Chain to I think. Road riding is new to me.
  13. So this morning I took my new roadbike out for the first time. Got up just after 4 really excited about this new experience. So used to my mtb that it felt like learning to ride all over again. Plan was to go for a 2 odd hour ride, cross over Malanshoogte and back and up Vissershok. Wind was a little distracting, but who cares I am flying with little resistance. Up Adderley and down to Fair Cape dairy farm. Turned around and headed back up the hill. Then as I was just about to reach the top disaster. The chain broke. Snapped clean of. It was 6 in the morning. The wife at gym. I had an hour before I would get any help from her. So I walked to the top and freewheeled down to the bottom of Vissershok. With the wind full in my face and the sun only starting to come out I started to walk up Vissershok. I waved at people coming past, but no one even slowed down. So I walked to the top of Vissers, freewheeled down the other side, and as I was about to get of my bike a mountain biker came up behind me and gave me a push for about an kilometer until he had to turn. Walked another 3km and the wife came to pick me up. So how was my first experience as a "roadie" - Awesome. I guess we all get into situations we do not wish for, but it is the attitude we go forward with that makes it worthwhile. I usualy push as hard as I can on the bike and today I was forced to take it slow and enjoy. Thanks to the guys who passed me, and a big thumbs up to the only other fellow cyclist who helped me. Man I love this sport.
  14. Sorry Sir. Will do so right now
  15. No problem Conrad. Thanks again
  16. Thought I'd push it around for the first month, seeing tha road cycling is so dangerous (or so I've heard)
  17. Jip the one I still have to learn to shift!
  18. Thanks AirBender. I would not say that I have joined the road bunch just yet, but really enjoyed the 99er (on my mtb) New things to learn and experience. Much Fun
  19. What a wonderful place the Hub is. I joined about a month ago with the idea of selling my spare mtb. Immediately after placing the post I read al the warnings about scammers and how you should not trust anyone or part with your goods or cash until you have 100% confirmation. So I sold the mtb and started looking for a road bike on which I can do some training. Whilst still searching this whole story about the guy who got Hijacked in Cape Town, his Specialized stolen and him looking for a new bike came to light. Many believed him to be a scam artist and a whole debate followed. Somewhere in there was a comment like - never buy a bike in another province unless you see it for yourself. Then I found a bike posted by Chaunce in Johannesburg. Sounded like a real good deal. Everything I was looking for. Only problem - there was no way I would be able to go to Joburg to view. Got into contact with Chaunce, he phoned me, sent me pics of the bike, and a whole page of correspondence followed. End of story, I trusted a guy I have never met. Paid the full amount without seeing the bike. Waited a week and finally received my new machine on Friday. In perfect condition with all brand new parts. Spotless. Seems like there is still people you can trust in this day and age. Thanks Chaunce you are a real gentleman. I would recommend all fellow hubbers to support him. All that is left for me to do is ride the bike and learn the etiquette of the roadies.
  20. Depends on how long you have been training for. The body adapts over time and can cope with less the more trained it becomes. When I started out, I always had energy drink on hand. These days only on long races.
