  1. wow... they have added a nut to the arm and leg they wanted last year 🤑😆
  2. There are several FB groups. Join them. Their information is a lot more concentrated on what you are looking for.
  3. There are 2 things I know. Any bike will do. Anything can be converted and made to work. For short trips like you are planning you should be fine. The issue with carbon is, it just snaps when it has had enough. Metal gives you a bend first before failure. Guys doing big trips use steel or titanium for the strength. This is because they carry upwards of 35kgs extra. Also if it breaks even in darkest Africa you can weld a steel frame. Get yourself packed. Then take away 50% of that stuff. You need very little on short trips. Take more pictures than stuff. That area is really beautiful.
  4. I have run out of arms and legs to pay for these races.
  5. Hi. Is there anyone here who has direct insurance knowledge. I need some help please. It is in regards to a vehicle. Thanks. 0795256841 WhatsApp if possible.
  6. Park in Ceres and ride down to Calvinia and back. You will enjoy that. Or as far as you want to go. That road is second to none for this sort of thing.
  7. Cool write up. I have been bike packing for 3 years. I still add and drop stuff here and there. I personally think it is very much a personal experience. Also the more you do it the more you learn. My first trip I ever did I took a pair of takkies with. Hilarious. Heavy and an absolute waste. Slops and riding shoes is all I do now. I hope for you this is just the beginning. A trip through the Tankwa is definitely worth it. Go when the moon is small. Your nights will be rewarded no end.
  8. They have closed down as far as I know. If you looking for info there is a new guy working at Oasis who is full of updated knowledge on the area. Contact them.
  9. As far as I know Uitkyk pass is closed. Weather destroyed it. Maybe phone somewhere and see if it has reopen.

You are right. Spot on. I left the hub once before and see it is time again to part ways here. I will keep my opinions and life's journey to myself. You Sir have reminded me of the reason I left last time. Your opinion is way more valuable. Thank you for keeping me in check.

Sir I am not attacking anyone on a personal level. I just personally do not see any value here. Good luck by the way. This is a small reason of why I do my best not to support any institution that sponsors ex rugby players or any persons that does not need a free entry to an event. I am disgusted at the amount of money big businesses spend to keep their wealthy clients happy. They certainly won't be using any of my hard earned money. The poor feed the rich. It is a dirty circle that the wealthy enjoy. Them sponsoring you means they now need to find your entry fee in other avenues in order for the race to be highly profitable. I am certainly not against you or your cause. I just find the whole thing a bit sickening. Again... Good luck and enjoy. If nothing else I will enjoy watching your dot.

I am still baffled at how in the name of visa card can anyone afford this race. 30K would last me 3 months touring. I can't believe.
  14. Looking for 12 speed cassette and chains for a mtb if anyone sees any fantastic deals. Thanks.
  15. It sure is going to be exhilarating and daring at that time of year in Franschhoek. Even though it is on gravel roads it is going to be super dangerous.
