  1. Damn, I need to become focused on getting fit. I want to do these kinds of multi day rides. I have loads of work ahead of me to become remotely close to the fitness I had once upon a time. Crap part is trying to achieve this alone. I would like to do this and up there is the Andes Pacifico.
  2. Is it available, low ballers etc. I reply to all of them some I even entertain and others I just reply with a no thank you. I am trying to sell something and so I will always engage who ever is interested. When people ask about the item and then lowball I will explain why I dont believe its worth that price. I have sold at slightly less then asking in similar instances. I have people ask is it available, replied and then lowball and replied with a no thank you and it ends there. Buying on the classifieds is tough. Sellers end up selling to someone else despite you making arrangements to collect, wanting to view to possibly buy and so on. I also only try to buy within driving distance and buy from people according the rouxtjie rule!! I do not accept dibs. I tell people if they should come and view or not depending if there are others interested and if the person does not take it, then I contact the other person interested.
  3. This right here. In the current industry I am in, we have 2 suppliers that did not want to supply us with stock. Made all sorts of excuses and then eventually found out because of another store 5km away from us. We made it clear that they 5km away. Since covid, things have changed and we buy cash. Then we also tried buying from another industry supplier altogether. The industry they supply has nothing to do with what we do. But they say straight out that the need to protect their retail customers, which I respect and understand why. In our industry the distributors think nothing of supplying any one instead of directing to the nearest store and keeping the store in business.
  4. Many times due to poor quality finishing of the product.
  5. As ugly as it seems to some(AMS). It actually works extremely well. Other options are not as hard or thick. I cant say how well they work either. I have invisiframe(imported) and another product from a local company on one bike. Invisiframe is a bit thinner than the ams, seems to protect reasonably well. It sure as hell is easy to apply, feels hard and sticks extremely well. The other local product is thicker than the invisiframe but feels softer and after a week the edges has lifted. I will be replacing this very soon with bike shield. I have bike shield on another bike and also no issues. It is a bit thin, but floats into place very easily. You get it in matt and shiny and so far I have had no issues with it lifting or failing to protect the frame. Should I need to do another bike, I would not hesitate to fit bike shield again.
  6. You will always get that. Most buyers shopping around and most likely find something else in their budget or an item that want more.
  7. This here. I was about to open a shop a few years back. The big distributors are not interested. I think this is why we now see a franchise store concept. I dont know the finer details behind one, but I am guessing its similar to franchise operation. I even approached some brands to become an importer for them locally but once again moq. It is just ridiculous.
  8. Then you will hardly cycle. Its mostly windy here.
  9. Aah, I see. I have all risk cover, so any damage riding anywhere and event or not. I am covered, was std with my policy. Is this for standalone bicycle insurance?
  10. That should be a std on your insurance policy, otherwise what were you paying for?
  11. Agreed, cyclists are traffic, but traffic that is required to keep left and not ride abreast. No ways 4 people are overtaking. Do you give way to faster traffic by moving to the left when you driving a car? https://bicyclesouth.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/SOUTH-AFRICAN-RULES-OF-THE-ROAD.pdf Duties'of'cyclists 3.!(1)!A!cyclist!riding!on!a!public!road!must— (a)!if!the!road!has!a!pedal!cycle!lane,!ride!only!in!the!pedal!cycle!lane!and!may!not!ride!on!any!other!portion!of!a!public!road! except!when!crossing!the!road;!or (b)!if!there!is!no!pedal!cycle!lane,!ride— (i)!to!the!left!of!the!left!edge!of!the!roadway;!or (ii)!on!the!roadway,!keeping!as!close!as!practicable!to!the!left!edge!of!the!roadway. And as traffic, I am sure most of our bicycles are not roadworthy in respect to having the relevant reflectors required. It is a debate that will never end.
  12. Diep river, bergvliet main road. Esp down victoria road, last weekend was disgusting, guys jumped a red light and proceeded to take up the whole lane up the bridge. I was behind a van at the time, the drive gave a light toot for them to move, but they didnt and then the bakkie went into oncoming traffic to get past. One group braking the law and forcing others to do so as well. Anyway, this topic will never change, there will always be these kinds of incidents. I value myself and cycle with care, its clear most others are just out there to do as they please and cant be bothered if they will make it home to their families.
  13. This you get even if you driving a car!!! the other motorist believes it is their right to drive you out of the way just so that they can get past without having to wait. You will also find most of them are driving above the speed limit. There is just no consideration for the next person any longer. Everything is about me, myself and I. What @ouzo says, had out also try to take a bit more space before the narrow section. I also tend to stand up and just sprint past to try and keep speed up to that of the other vehicles. As for the long horn, I am seriously considering carrying one of those very loud airhorns as a reaction
  14. One of the main reasons I dont join roadie groups. I will again bring up cycle lanes, u can ride like you want in them, yet so many refuse to use it and then ride 4 or 6 abreast and ignore the traffic and the obstruction they causing. If I am not mistaken, causing a traffic obstruction is as illegal as not using the cycle lane. Traffic police need to start doing a better job than just sit behind cameras and catching speedsters.
  15. I was out in the country side yesterday browsing some property that had similar potential albeit not as huge or gnarly. Man I wish I could just up and leave to a property like that.
  16. Off the RRP website "INDENT A mudguard tracking close to the tyre can offer great mud and spray protection but often at the cost of mud clogging and slowing the rider down, a mudguard that sits high off the tyre is conversely going to offer less protection so a compromise is needed."
  17. That mounts with cable ties. Havent seen it yet. I am going to be purchasing the RRP guards.
  18. Those floppy guards are just too short. decent at keeping dust off the stanchions, but mud goes everywhere. Currently I am shopping for the RRP pro guard and I found this at sportsmanwarehouse. https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/polisport-x-cape-front-mudguard/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsKCpraej8gIVysLtCh1KVgrYEAQYASABEgJGCfD_BwE I didnt buy as I want the direct mount option that the RRP guards have. They must have a reason why they make a big and small guard. Mudhugger are similar in design.
  19. Nope, and didnt see anything else posted anywhere
  20. You guys have it wrong man. Most Cape Tonians are chilled. I reckon its everyone else from the rest of the country who moved to the cape that cant deal with this many cyclists at once!

    Body Armour

Hardshell kneepads stops the twigs from piercing into your knee. Its a matter of choice/preference as well as comfort and fit. The same goes for full face helmets. Although you could opt for a convertible one. Most people dont ride with other armour. At most possibly elbow guards. I hardly use mine. It also depends are you pushing limits every single ride trying to be like Minaar? then get the armour suited. I armour up when we have shuttle days.
  22. Damn, how can I forget about autosol????‍♂️
  23. Car Mag aluminium polish should work well. You can also use toothpaste to clean and polish. Use a cloth dab and then gently rub in. Rinse off with warm water.
