  1. Been training there the past two weeks. Some fun riding indeed.
  2. Thanks guys. Appreciate it. I'm just a poor roadie trying to convert to MTB'ing
  3. Ok so this is my first MTB race.... how do you guys know which batch is which, seeing as though they start every three minutes? Will it be like the queue system like they have at the 94.7/Argus? Anyhow, good luck to you guys.
  4. You should rather go the measurement route. My [Kenda small block 8] 29 x 2.1 gives me 2275, as measured and I find it accurate when testing it with my GPS.
  5. G? Hah. Being my first MTB race, I'm not seeded, so I'm hitting it in I. Good thing 29'ers are good with overtaking
  6. No expert, but it depends quite a bit on your tyre pressure too - I noticed this on my 29x2.1. Mine was 2275mm though - I set it using the double-distance tape-measure method.
  7. The testimony they have against him is sketchy at best. It's like you arresting some kids for using, saying that you'll let them off lightly if they testify that kid<x> sold you the drugs.
  8. This is going to be my first MTB race (also the 40 since I'm not even remotely fit yet). Going to ride the route tomorrow probably.
  9. I've got these on my bike. They're great on road (for getting to the dirt) and obviously off-road, but they do suck if you hit any sort of wet stuff.
  10. Got myself one of these a few weeks ago. Turned over to the dark side. Will get lighter wheels and whatnot as I go along but it rides pretty darn nice. http://www.tredz.co.uk/prodimg/50044_1_Zoom.jpg
  11. I don't know about Jhb, but HotSpot Cycles in Pta East sells Scott
  12. I don't want to derail this thread or start another one that's going to get the same people answering the same stuff as above. I've had that same problem. I'm 25now, I used to ride a lot for several years (250+ per week), stopped riding for two years, then three weeks ago I bought myself a mtb and entered for the Down n Dirty Nissan race. I have time to ride 35km rides at around a 19 average in the week, and did a 60km (700m climbing) mtb ride yesterday, but I expect a lot more from myself due to past "levels" that I was on. Once I get past my lungs burning out, I feel fine, but hills are obviously still a killer. Being relatively new to mtb too, Is there a "target time" that sounds plausible for the upcoming 40km next week? I am hoping to get past 20ave for it at least.
