  1. hey hubbers got my first power "tool" got myself a cycleops power tap i am doing some training on the trainer at home and need some advise please....... one of my sessions involves the following: 10 minute warm up 1 minutes as hard as i can go (keep watts over 300+) 3 minute recovery (around 190 - 220 watts) i try do 5 to 6 of the 1 and 3 minute intervals... is this worth while or should i be doing something else? i felt pretty buggered towards the end and was sweating like a 2-stroke porker hahahah so it should be doing some good? also, how many times a week should i be doing this?? thanks!!
  2. guess i missed it.... gives me a year to train... time to find a coach
  3. definitely keen to try, i don't mind coming last, its race experience and there is no such thing as wasted KM's when is regionals?
  4. did Andrew not injure his Achilles Tendon recently ???
  5. ah ok cool, ,maybe i enter next year, watch me come last in my age group hahahaha
  6. i love climbing, used to hate it..... used to be slow, now i love it, still slow not as slow though...... bit of a rhyme lol i have to agree as stated earlier, you got to enjoy the climbs, that way you will start fighting to do better, enjoy the challenge! All the pain is over shadowed once you reach the top!! i always give myself a pat on the back once i have reached the top...... Suikerbos nature reserve ( dont litter!!!) got me going on the climbs , if that place does not make you a climber nothing will!! my previous post https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/114391-hill-training/ shows the hill training i do now, yesterday i actually did 3 loops instead of the 2 on the attachment, i will try add an extra loop ( comaro + Pieter Ackroyd) every few weeks, i recon if i get to 6/7 i will be pretty strong on the climbs....
  7. sorry, might be a silly question, who is allowed to enter champs?

  10. yah Pieter Ackroyd is a killer my parents stay right on the corner of Pieter Ackroyd and Basson Avenue, i often think of just pulling in there and riding straight into the pool hahahahaah
  11. @bigben, thats cool, a fellow southerner comaro is a bugger hey when do you guys ride?
  12. yah its called GPSLogger II, its free
  13. on the data export its not giving me distance! arrgggg
  14. hey guys, yup bottom would be distance, but i did not add it, i just added 1+ all the way down the table, i will redo with distance, the total distance was just short of 20km this is in the south of JHB, the first major climb is Hythe Ave in Glenvista, the 2 towards the end are Comaro Road, then a u-turn at the hiway offramp robots and back up Pieter Ackroyd, then back down Pieter Ackroyd and then down comaro, yup 90km/h down comaro
  15. Hey Hubbers i have been doing this small route for training (19 - 20km) when i don't have much time available as it take me around an hour. i am using GPSLogger II on my Blackberry to plot the route, so i have just dumped the data in excel, altitude vs speed, i will use this data to compare speed improvements on the climbs as i get stronger. is this a worthwhile training route??
  16. AGREED, i only carry one GU on training ride and will only use it if really needed....
  17. how about the guys just stop throwing the stuff onto the floor, this is at the end of the day a nature reserve!!!!
  18. this is horrible news if true, shame poor wild animals, some ppl have no respect! SBR was going to be an integral part of my training to do a sub 3hr 94.7 + Argus ....... i myself keep all my GU and energy bar packs in my shirt pockets, gets sticky but would rather do that then liter!!
