  1. Did the 120 km race. Lovely race and day all round. Well organized, lovely venue for the start and finish. The route was well marked with beautiful scenery. I also think a slightly earlier start might be nice considering the heat. I stay at the campsite for the Friday evening, which worked very nicely. It had nice shower and toilet facilities overlooking a huge dam. Can highly recommend it.
  2. Entered for the 120 km. They are predicting a mild 24 degrees for Saturday and wind looks okay 🙂
  3. Anybody knows the dates for the Munga Grit Tankwa for 2024?
  4. Hi Anybody know where/how I can rent a Wattbike? I love my Wattbike sessions, but it takes up a lot of my time in terms of traveling and taking me away from the office. My work situation is very fexible, but it will save me a lot of time and travelling if I can do my Wattbike workouts at home. (I stay in the Boland/Cape Town area) Any advice/ideas?
  5. Conditions were tough. By conditions I mean wind. For the rest of the race everything was very nice. Good challenge to test your endurance and preparation, beautiful scenery and as usual the Dryland waterpoints were all top notch. Everything you expect from a Dryland race in terms of organization. I will be sad it the race doesn't stick around for the long term.
  6. Dankie Gemmerbal - dis heerlike leesstof vir iemand wat oorweeg om vanjaar die Munga te doen. Ek sien uit na die vlg aflewering.
  7. I'm more worried about the weather than the road conditions 😅 Looking at posts from previous years, I would say go with a MTB if you want comfort. If you want to challenge for the podium go for a gravel bike.
  8. Hi I'm really enjoying the Ride Reports by Gemmerbal. I've red both of them twice. I'm trying to convince myself to enter the race. I need some inspiration - When can we get the next post Gemmerbal?
  9. Hi If I look at Stave I see that it is possible to cycle from Stanford back to Hermanus via Wortelgat Road pass Springfontein and Mosaic Cafe. From there it looks like the road stays/follows a path behind the dunes. After that it looks like a bit on the beach and sand. Anyone with some experience with the above mentioned route? I don't want to get stuck in thick sand and pushing my bike for a km or two - a few sandy patches and driving on the beach will be fine though. Some advice from Stanford and Hermanus local would be appreciated.
  10. Hi What is the cut off times for the race? Am I allowed to do it on my MTB?
  11. Hi Lately I have been struggling with very stiff hamstrings. I don't like stretching and I usually neglect that part of my training regime, but I think time and age (I'm close to 50) has caught up with me. Any good advice and/or stretches anyone can recommend.
  12. Hi I've done the Seweweekspoort race for the last eight times it was presented. Dryland use to do the organizing. True to form, Dryland always organized a great event. Chain Gang Events are doing the organizing this year after Dryland decided to stop presenting it. Anyone on the forum have any experience doing events that they have organized. I'm not familiar with them and I don't want to drive al the way to do something that's not organized properly.
  13. Hi Cycling on the R 43 between Hermanus and Botrivier, the road goes past Hawston.... Is it still safe to cycling past there? Houses are getting more and closer to the road all the time.
  14. Hi In a moment of madness, weakness and/or inspiration I've entered the KarooBurn 2022....???? I've done the 361MTB half twice and I've just done the Race to the Sea. All of the above I completed fairly easily. The Half 361 races, I thought were "easier" than the Race to the Sea. At Race to the Sea there was a serious head wind on the last 45km of the race which made this very interesting and challenging. Any training tips. Tips on nutrition and general tips what to do and what not will be highly appreciated. Some "insight" from guys that have done the race before would also be nice....
  15. Hi Guys Thanks for the input & advice. That map is a great help. I don't like getting lost..... Now I can't wait to hit those roads.
  16. Hi I'm going to Botlierskop for three nights. Any suggestions on nice routes and area's to explore in the above mentioned area? I see there is a bike park, named Klipheuwel, in Klein Brak. Is it any good....? Feedback & ideas will be appreciated.
  17. Hi Anyone knows if this is still going ahead as advertised?
  18. Sounds like a nice challenge. Please organize one for us down in the Cape.....
  19. Hi I've signed up. I need some extra motivation. I use to weigh 144kg back in 1995. These days I'm happy with anything under 94kgs. During the last couple of months my weight has slowly gone up and up. Basically from eating to much and drinking to much wine and being lazy. I would like to repair the damage before the gets completely out of hand. Let the games begin.
  20. Doing my first one this year. First 3 day stage race in 3 years.
  21. Simon's Town ?? There is no school. It is an old age home by the sea. The town itself is beautiful!!
  22. Hi Paarl is a good option. It's close to Cape Town. You can get there within an hour if the traffic is not to bad. We have excellent schools in Paarl - Boys' High, Gim, Girls' High, La Rochelle and Boland Landbouskool. Property in Paarl is cheaper than Stellenbosch (as an rule of thumb) We have Rhebokskloof on our doorstep. There is Paarlberg which has got some nice gravel roads. Welvanpas in Wellington is close by. We also have nice district/gravel roads in the area. An added bonus is the amount of excellent wine cellars in the aera. Paarl wine is also cheaper than Stellenbosch wine. If you like cycling on the road there are nice roads towards Malmesbury/Durbanville that's not to busy. Paarl also have a very nice cycling community. Good luck with your choice.
  23. Kevin and Max will have a tough time, but I'll be shouting for them. When I started MTB, Kevin was the guy to beat, I'll always cheers for him.
