  1. From DC Rainmaker: Next, I should note again the magnet is indeed required according to Shimano. As I showed in the installation, you do need to place a magnet on the frame for the unit to determine everything from power to cadence. Without it, no luck (or love). In this day and age, I’m not entirely sure I get that approach. Sure, 10 years ago that was commonplace. But sorta like film, it’s mostly out of style these days. Accelerometers are used, and virtually every power meter on the market today is more than good enough both on and off-road with such technology (for pros and normal people like us alike).
  2. Silly question - has the magnet come off the frame? If not check the cable on the left crank - you have to be super careful when you tighten the tensioning screw and place the cable.
  3. Okay okay I was wrong - it's great in a Hot Toddy also!
  4. Scottish, Irish - all tastes the same in a Don Pedro or Irish Coffee...that's the only decent use for Whiskey anyway πŸ™‚ /ducks'n'runs....
  5. Welcome to the COVID delay train - I have been waiting for bikes, parts, groupsets, saddles and various other parts for anything between a few weeks and over a year! The supply chain is well and truly knackered. There are a few here and there: https://ciclimattio.com/en/p/shimano/hb-mt400-b-mozzo-anteriore-disc-center-lock-black--centerlock-110mm?continent=EUCEE&country=DK&currency=DKK Getting it to SA is going to be the tough part - especially during the peak Xmas time.
  6. A customer of mine owns a whiksy distillery right here in Copenhagen has tried a few times to convert me but man oh man I just cannot acquire the taste.
  7. I flash Kroner πŸ˜‰ Whiskey. Urgh. Who drinks that *** anyway????
  8. Have you called the guys at Coolheat? If they don't have it chances are it isn't available in SA (I can't find it in the European stock database!!). They will direct you to a shop to buy it if it is available. Or ask them for a new MT400 hub - it isn't cheap considering you need just the axle but it isn't tooo expensive (and you get shiny new cones).
  9. It is Christmas after all!
  10. If Europe ever allows us expatters back into Africa I'm buying you the most special Bells we can find. We'll said sir!
  11. I agree with you on that - route deviation and not getting back onto the route where you left it is a DQ. Downhill is a great example of that. Edit: Drafting is a tough one - I agree it should be banned to make it completely mano e mano (and womano e womano) but that is almost impossible to enforce.
  12. So which is it? Do we enforce the rules, the fine lines, the marginal cases, the debatable rules or the general principle? Yes that was said tongue in cheek. I agree with you on the unsupported nature. I did an ultra event across Holland - phones were banned and you only had the official gps tracker you were given for guidance (complete with SOS button). Back up on the route was completely banned. That is the right way to do it in my book.
  13. Life is far too short to be that binary in your thinking. If rules were rules half the pro peleton would be DQ'd for sticky bottles, drafting back to the bunch behind cars, drafting behind camera bikes, for handing children bottles etc. If any Munga competitor got a phone call, text, got handed food/emergency blanket etc by their family etc they'd be DQ'd. We shouldn't abandon rules completely but we shouldn't enforce them rigidly without thinking/morality either.
  14. When you're fresh and rested following breadcrumbs is really easy - when you're sleep deprived, tired, unfocused, dehydrated, the moer in, all of the above is gets a little more challenging....
  15. I went up Rusty Gate in '14 with a sub 70kg mountain goat partner. I still have nightmares and wake up tasting copper in my mouth!
  16. 2 days with a Boncat to create the basic layout and about a week with 1 guy to create around 8 features (start ramp, berns, table tops, bombhole, etc).
  17. Table tops! Fun for the jumpers and pretty safe for the non jumpers. Everybody likes berms. Bomb holes - make sure there is drainage. Pump sections. I built a 500m track at my house and it is amazing what you can build just using the stuff you have lying around (I lived on a plot so there was a bit of a selection). If you have a slope put the fun stuff on the way down and have a pretty direct route back to the top where you can give it some gas - interval training AND fun...
  18. Now we're talking. Proper Top Gun shoot out!
  19. I'm still amazed by Rasmus' record pace - currently around 100km ahead of the leader. Mind boggling. I am a huge Bekenk fan. First met him at an ultra mtb race in Holland and was amazed by the combination of megawatts, chilled dude and really well oiled endurance team (his Dad is his support crew).
  20. Calling your cat in Holland is also interesting as a saffer ????????
  21. And the Danes wonder why I haven't mastered the language in 5 years! It's tough. Slut spurt means end of season sale (kind of) Kaffe means coffee. More fun - for the plural add an R at the end ???????????? Nej (pronounced naai) means no. Fartcontrol is the word for a pacer in a road race.
  22. Travel bans meant he probably would be trapped in SA if he had stayed. Same situation I'm facing with my Xmas trip to SA.....
  23. Assos are still keen: https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/assos-waiting-on-ryders-desperate-sponsor-search-before-committing-to-qhubeka-nexthash/ Tick tock tick tock Douglas!!!!
  24. Hansie splashed'n'dashed and out first....
  25. What is even scarier is that Rasmus' 2018 record pace is quite far ahead!
