  1. Looking to replace an outer chain ring on the mountain bike, the marking on them read SG-X. Now I wanted to check if that is generic across the 4 bolt range, or if it is LX / XT specific?
  2. regrettably policing yourself has never been the most effective way to get things done, although the ANC seem to revel in it...... (not a dig at you Sean, just an observation. The ANC on the other hand....) That it is now public knowledge that the pharmaceutical companies are now actively involved in the anti doping effort should make for some interesting last minute injuries / withdrawals from the Olympics and some surprising DNF / failure to progress from the heats performances as well...... A big leap forward in anti doping measures, just hope that making it public hasn't blown the cover PPWTF2008-07-24 00:27:14
  3. I've got a Truvativ carbon crank that's started looking pretty scruffy, the decals have started rubbing off stuff after just a few rides, so I wanted to know if there is anywhere that does work on carbon bike parts. My thinking was I'd get new decals made up / bought and have a top layer applied over the decals... not exactly rocket science, and to be honest I'm staggered that the manufacturers don't do this themselves on gear costing this much... Any advice is much appreciated
  4. I'd go Trek. Made massive strides in the last 3 years with there mountain bikes. Top quality gear (I had a 2005 9.8 hardtail) and a great ride The specialized has just had a total redesign, so you may find a deal that way, but plenty of people have had mixed experiences with the brain shock on the old design... The new Epic has something more like the FSR suspension set up no idea about the BH but I'm sure someone here will have owned / ridden one and can give views on..... PPWTF2008-07-23 04:05:21
  5. On-One Lynskey Ti 456 http://www.on-one-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Ti_456_467.html http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/frames/mountain/product/lynskey-ti-456-08--31339 right now this frame is getting some of the best reviews i've ever seen PPWTF2008-07-23 00:25:24
  6. if you can afford carbon then why not go for Ti - I know of plenty of people who've had there Ti mountain bike 10 years and still rave about it......
  7. I see there are a few of the Eagle and Aeris Sport for sale on Ebay. The bike I'd be fitting them onto is a giant anthem 1, and I'm looking at an 80mm; which fork would you recommend? That said, the Reason looks like an awesome bit of kit, maybe I'll end up with 100mm.... PPWTF2008-07-21 12:55:19
  8. turtlek has just hit on one of my initial concerns... is this simply old technology repackaged.... like the Chinese cars that are appearing under a new manufacturer name, but are clearly old models from major manufacturers that have had a very slight cosmetic make over after the license to produce has been sold on? PPWTF2008-07-21 12:42:25
  9. There reason for all the questions.... I'm gonna be in the market for a fork in the coming few months and am interested to hear what these guys have. Looking at the website I can see the terminology (LC / RLC ) is the same as another brand, and that it's VERY clear the technology is if not exactly the same, then very very close..... Would be interesting to see what the service, parts and back up is like, and of course price..... PPWTF2008-07-21 12:38:33
  10. So they'd have been at the Taipei trade show with product unbranded for buyers to see etc.....? Very interesting. How long has the product been in the market here, is it fitted as 'Spinner' branded product to anything we'd see here, is the plan to have them sold out of LBS?
  11. ok..... i'm no industry know all, but I've seen plenty of the Taiwan direct product yet only now am I hearing about these guys -what's the deal? Is it manufacturer direct sales like Trigon, or rebranding but at minimal extra cost like Token? The web search turned up articles suggesting they manufacture, or have in the past done, for the big 'names' in suspension, are they now setting out to become a 'name' themselves, or is it just a connoisseur type specialist product that I'm only now catching onto (having somewhat missed the boat)?
  12. http://www.spinner-usa.com/ Just been enlightened in another post... and a google search tells me that these guys build forks for all the major players - rock shox / Manitou etc - is what a couple of articles suggest. What I wanna know is if anyone has actually owned any of there product, what there experience has been, and if there is any SA service for them? I know I'm probably coming in from the dark, but as the light has only now gone on, feel free to further enlighten me.....
  13. ..............and never, ever use a power hose on the thing, no matter how much dust/mud/chain lube is attaching itself to your pride and joy. If it's wet, wait for it to dry, use a brush to get the worst of and only then use water / mxclean etc - at no pressure. Your BB / full sus bearings / head set will love you for ever, and as was mentioned above, so will your wallet
  14. Admin should frame this post as a cautionary tail....... with the warning, "The Hub is an open access forum and we are not responsible for the honesty or integrity of its users" My anger stems not from differing opinions, which are an essential ingredient for lively debate, but from the dishonesty of fellow human beings, and the smugness that so often goes with the deceit......... I recall a certain *** channel journalist who would add sound effects to his 'live' reports from the 'war zone', and over the space of a few months that was to be just the ice breaker.......... Journalism and honesty, about as comfortable bed fellows as politician and the truth...............! PPWTF2008-07-21 03:24:12
  15. wonderful.............. a journo having fun at the expense of fans of an event having a prolonged middle life crisis......... pop goes the bubble around the 'meeting fellow cycling fans' halo of the hub...............! PPWTF2008-07-21 03:03:32
  16. .......................... when T Mobile quit they had come under sustained corporate and public pressure to disassociate the brand from the sport. now for any commercial enterprise that is seriously powerful persuasion.... and how long should an organization stick it out having it's name bashed by international media? What is the 'good' exit strategy? When things like this happen I guess you can say that the speed of exit is directly = to the appetite for the association? In which case JB's metion of a cycling fan in Senior BW position getting massively burned as a result of taking the 'company name' into this does make a lot of sence
  17. Thank you for making me laugh feeling better already
  18. The brand awareness that sponsorship of an event or team typically gains is targeted, hence when you mention Phonak anyone in cycling remembers Landis etec etc, yet most still today couldn't tell you what Phonak actually did - make hearing aids etc.... so the damage to the brand is specific to the interest group. Hence cyclists think Phonak, remember Floyd, and in turn doping. It is very very regrettable, but when T Mobile quit they had come under sustained corporate and public pressure to disassociate the brand from the sport.... now for any commercial enterprise that is seriously powerful persuasion....
  19. Johan, you got it nailed. Articulate as always - the voice of reason has spoken
  20. You are right - professional sport is reaching a tipping point... sponsors in are thinking twice about what they are aligning and associating themselves with, not just in cycling., and not just at the elite level. Look at the 'sponsorship' deal that Coca Cola had with American high schools. At the time of signing the schools nation wide where cock a hoop at the the fact the biggest name in soft drinks was giving significant sums of money, in return for unfetter access... 10 plus years latter and with major dietary issues the topic of daily conversation, the State of California effectively directly interviews to end this association. A deal seen as heaven sent was now as sour as fresh squeezed lemon juice... The risk to health was to great, the association to negative. Now that's soft drink and kids with diabetes.... here in the professional sports arena you have Marion Jones in jail, Tim Montgomery doing time for Heroin smuggling, the FBI investigating the Balco case.... and you think getting out as BW and SD have done is premature and unjust - that they got their brand exposure but are turning tail and running at the first sign of trouble..... I've tried to make an articulate counter argument to your riposte... Understand that you are not the only 'professional' on the hub, that your view is interesting, but that snide comments do nothing to enhance the debit, and that 'wake up and smell the coffee' was constructive, as you are clearly reading from a different page than most observers of sport and it's associated ills in the modern arena.
  21. wake up and smell the coffee....... who wants to be directly or indirectly associated with doping!? If you are a dreamer who believes it will never happen to you, then you can be sure your dream will turn into a nightmare. Sponsoring professional sport is a hazardous business in todays climate. Fact. Some will feel the risks worthwhile, others not. I can totally understand why BW decided to turn tail and run. Why should anyone who funds anything put up with such negative publicity in return for their envolvement. SD did the same, T Mobile and Phonak have gone.... these are tough times and they're only gonna get tougher by the look of things
  22. Fandacious you do a nice line in Monday morning humor..... PPWTF2008-07-21 00:21:46

http://www.ausport.gov.au/ais/nutrition/publications/cookbooks On the subject of Lunch..... does anyone have any of these books, has anyone used one? I've been thinking of spending out on one for a while now as the training diet needs livening up a bit............. Todays lunch - 2 x (microwaved) baked sweet potatoes with cottage cheese and a side salad PPWTF2008-07-18 04:34:59
  24. it takes a while to load up but does play eventually......
  25. major jail time will start to have an impact........ at the moment these boys think all they'll get is a slapped wrist and a few years on the side lines.... make them felons and send them to Polsmoor (or the local equivalent) Living in the hermetically sealed bubble of Pro Tour life has removed to many of them from the real world - hence the complete Pr**k who called himself the cobra................... get a life
