  1. haven't red all of the posts, but there is a significant weight of opinion to suggest that the skin suits are hiding something else.......... many many commentators have voice the opinion (not the commentators you find on TV, the onces behind the scenes, directly involved in sport)

    Sram Rival

I have a Brand New, still in the Box SRAM Rival Groupset that I'll happily let go to a Hubber for R5450 - remember, no postage to pay, no Customs to clear, no VAT to pay on top...... - Crank Arm is 172.5 - Front d?railleur is braze on - but I'm sure they can be converted with a retro order clamp (feel free to confirm if this is correct) - Chain and cassette are PC1070 Pictures to follow - will be in the Classifieds shortly
  3. When all is said and done, Number 4 is getting my vote as the 2nd best MTB/road friendly option (Mampara design number 3 is my favorite - you do awesome work man ) Can't wait to wave at the first Hubber I see out on a ride, wearing the same gear as me - this is bar far and a way the best Hubber recognition / meeting and breaking the ice idea. Wonder how long it takes to get a major magazine feature where a Hubber, in Hub kit, is in a picture...... Smiling madly and counting the days till the post arrives...
  4. If you're in London you got a great chance to ride some awesome trails in South Wales - jump on the train at Paddington Station and in about 3hrs 30mins / 4 Hrs you are in Newport or Cardiff (book your train ticket early and state you will be traveling with a bike) http://www.walesdirectory.co.uk/Mountain_Bike_Holidays/Mountain_Bike_Holiday_in_Monmouthshire.htm http://www.mbwales.com/ http://www.moredirt.co.uk/region_trails.php?id=14 There's plenty of clubs who'll have Wales weekend road trips going on For road bikes take a look in Condor Cycles, a London cycling institution http://www.condorcycles.com/ these guys will definitely point you in the right direction If your still there in October you should definitely check out - http://www.cycleshow.co.uk/ http://www.londoncyclesport.com/ PPWTF2008-08-07 07:53:09
  5. The other thing to balance up (if you have the option) is maybe upgrade to Economy Plus / Business as your bike may get flown as your "golf clubs" which are allowed luggage on the ticket class - it worked for me twice... BA Check in staff put the bike box on the weigh in and said, without a second thought, so your 'golf clubs' - how do you carry them around... Maybe the guy was a cyclist, maybe I was just lucky....
  6. www.excess-baggage.com where awesome in every respect, but it did cost about R3000 (UKP256 including insurance)................ PPWTF2008-08-06 02:01:18
  7. Thanks very much Joe Low, sparked another parallel thought - Sports Science use computrainer ... Will get onto it ASAP :-)

  9. I'm trying to figure out what % of pedal stroke power is generated in the pedaling action from the 6o'clock position through to the 12o'clock position - the phase when no direct downward pressure is applied to the pedal. There is plenty of conversational reading to suggest that a % of power is generated by a pull phase - what I'm in need of is a formal / scientific / academic study with actual figures....... Please post links to research or documents in your reply As you can see, I clearly need help - 7am and I'm posting this... hehehe Thanks in advance for the hubber(s) who come to my rescue (Apologies site admin for duplicating the post - maybe has a better chance of getting an answer in 'Power Training' section?) 11. Photoshop or no photoshop, the intial reaction (and sound effects oooouuuhhhAAAA) is still the same.... at least for about 5seconds... then giggling like a small child - always the same effect
  12. .... and there you have it. No more riding in the poring rain! I'm only now getting over the cold from hell, all 3+weeks of it! My guess is i'd have gotten ill anyway, but riding in the worst weather just made it that much worse when it did arrive. Add stress from work into the equation and I've been off my bike way to long.... I've currently got my head stuck in the mountain bikers training bible, and will be using the IDT for home testing every month or so. Really looking forward to getting back on the bike (road during the week, MTB at weekends) some time very soon PPWTF2008-08-04 04:07:49
  13. R1000 would be the very top - hence I'm in the second hand market; the thing will get regular and prolonged use, so has to stand up to the job. What is tight is the available repair / replacement budget.... i.e. R0000.... so I definitely can't go buying the aforementioned steaming pile of phoo....! need to make the right purchase first time out buy cheap, buy twice is ringing in my ears... buy cheap, buy twice, buy cheap, buy twice......... some kinda horrible awake nightmare PPWTF2008-08-04 02:32:51
  14. Morning TNT1 - in a better mood today so had myself a sly giggle at your request for dancing girls... Thanks to everyone else for the advice - kinda tough when the budget is tight. Nobody wants to buy a steaming mountain of dog phoo simply because they didn't have the required product knowledge....
  15. Monday morning - anyone give me some advice.....
  16. Looking for an IDT - budget will only stretch to second hand - want to avoid going down the buy cheap, buy twice road.... Recommendations and advice on what to look for, look out for, what is good, and what is best avoided like the plague.... Gonna be using the thing for regular training so will be well used and needs to be up to the job Also, is there anything I should look out for using PT on the IDT? Any and all advice greatfully received
  17. Hi there Bruce, Yep this was from the CTS guide that came with the PT - ashamed though I am to admit it, today was the first time I actually read the thing.....! Ooops Will take a look at the link you posted - thanks very much
  18. Part 1 In the next few weeks I will hopefully get back on the bike - work load from hell means no time or energy for it right now - I wanted to ask if the following is still considered a good way to establish you power figures, from which to then establish your workout zones..... Warm upTime trial a flat 3mile course, Take 10mins active recovery Repeat the 3mile courseFinish with 15 - 30mins easy riding to flush your system Part 2 I'll be using PowerTap and a Suunto T6 to record the workouts - Is Training Peaks WKO+ the most effective way to bring together the training data? If not what are people using and can happily recommend? Thanks for any and all advice given, and very greatfully received
  19. Granted it's not exactly new news, but I'm totally over the way negative / doping threads are currently dominating the Hub.... So, in a positive light... ......has been talk in the World Cup paddock since Andorra, but it was recently officially announced that South African rider Greg Minnaar has been formally appointed to the UCI Mountain Bike Commission, effectively as the gravity riders' representative. "This is a big honour for me and for Africa. Mountain biking has always been a very international sport and I'm glad the UCI appointed someone from outside Europe. I look forward to working with the Commission, and of course the other riders who I'll be representing. I'm going to have a Riders' Meeting in Mont-Sainte-Anne next month so we can start looking at any changes we need for 2009". Greg currently races for the Santa Cruz Syndicate and is sitting 3rd in the UCI World Cup DH series after winning the 3rd round in Scotland 8 days ago. http://www.extreme365.com/news/Mountain_Biking/story_127111.shtml PPWTF2008-07-28 23:34:20
  20. this is the sad thing about doping..... we've come to reside in a state of mind that is totally based upon suspicion. Instead of congratulating the 90kg person driving hard up the climbs we believe there must be another explanation..... a really sad place we find ourselves in..... and all of this stems from the actions of 'professionals' encamped in elite sports, not just cycling, who've constantly and repeatedly giving us false dreams, enacted by false idols, until there is no belief left at any level, because any stand out / break through performance must be the result of something other than hard work.

    2009 Giant

they partner on the development of VPP so as to keep cost down, sharing all the info on any new developments and agreeing upon sale for under license use etc... more pioneering stuff from the boutique brigade - cost and technology sharing for mutual benefit. Awesome ideas all round, just a shame I can't afford anything they turn out.... except I can, as i ride an Anthem

    2009 Giant

Giant have there design renamed as part of an 'under license' deal from Intense, partners in the development of VPP............. I ride an Anthem so was stoked to find out that my ride had a suspension design sourced from such a pioneering high end boutique company, at a fraction of the cost.......
  23. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/more_sport/cycling/article4407072.ece The link is for an article written by Paul Kimmage - of mucho hunting for ways to out dopers fame- and makes for very interesting reading. He was granted total access to Garmin, in build up to and for the duration of the TdF. What comes from it is a feeling I'm sure we'd all wish to share, one of hope, against better judgment, that our sport will again be a window to real human achievement, and not the product of a visit to the doctors....
  24. bloody hell........ asked a question, started a bar fight............. didn't see that coming Thanks for all the advice and direction posted - hope no long lasting damage was done amongst hubbers in answering the post....
