  2. The Edge bought in South Africa currently comes bundled with: Garmap Africa Series 2008 (March Edition) As mountain lion suggested, it may work out better to buy the 705 locally after you add the cost of the bundled maps.
  3. Nope, The 705 is going to have more features/options, expecially if you have the appropriate map. If you have NO maps, then they are fairly similar. If you want to plan routes beforehand, and/or intent following routes on the device, then the 705 has many advantages. Situations where you might do this are as follows: 1. Getting to a race. Enter the address, and follow the route to the race. 2. Plotting a training ride. Plot out your route beforehand, and establish distance/time you want to ride etc. Upload and follow on 705. 3. Once you have lost yourself in Jonkershoek at 11pm in the dark, you can select GOTO GATE, and it should plot you the way back.
  4. Leon_Pro, The main differences between 305 and 705 are as follows: 1. Maps. 705 has autorouting street level maps of SA. 2. Color Screen 3. Battery life. They've bumped up the battery size for the color screen, and it's now 15 hours on the 705. 4. 705 has ANT+Sport connectivity. You can copy info to other 705's wirelessly, and connect to extrenal power-meters. The street level maps are excellent while using the road-bike, and you'll find them even better in the car to navigate to the race. For mountain biking and hiking, you can get Track's4Africa (or make your own maps) Avnic won't sell to the public, so goto www.easygis.co.za and have a look there. They'll ship any unit (and any accessory) to you.ZorgusPrime2008-06-08 08:48:24
  5. Sorry, I didn't put the number of led's, I've got 2 to give that output (at a lower current)
  6. Good job Speedi15, If you get the manufacturers LED specs off their website ( for Cree XR-E it is http://www.cree.com/products/pdf/XLamp7090XR-E_B&L.pdf and http://www.cree.com/products/pdf/XLamp7090XR-E.pdf ) you can work out roughly how much light you are producing. Find out the bin number of your LED (hopefully indicated somewhere on the torch specifications), and look this up on the B&L.pdf above on page 3(It will normally be called Cree XR-E Q5 or similar (they take the led's after manufacturing, test them, and then group them into "bins" based on their performance. Each bin is +/- 7% the same output) and from this table you can get the lumens the LED produces at 350mA). For example a Cree XR-E Q5 at 350mA would be somewhere from 107 to 114 lumens. Next, goto the second datasheet, page 8, and you get a table of relative flux based on forward current. You can take the current, and interpolate on the graph what the relative flux will be. For example at 600mA it would be 1.5 Now you do some multiplication: XR-E Q5 @ 600mA would give 107*1.5 = 160 lumens. I recon if you are getting 10 hours, then you are running at a lower current. See if you can measure the current, which is going to be easier than gettting hold of a light meter. Also, remember that if you are using the same basic technology as the big boys, simple physics means that they are inevitably going to be getting the same results as you. Take the setup that I use at the moment, and compare it to a BL light: Revelation 1. LED: Cree XR-E Q5 Output: 220lumens* (manufacturers claim) Battery: Li-Po Life: 11.5 hours System Weight: 360grams Price: R2000 ZorgusPrime's Anonymous-Setup LED: Cree XR-E Q5 Output: 320lumens* (manufacturers claim, I put it at 260 rather) Battery: Li-Po Life: 12 hours Total System Weight: 348 grams Price: < R2000 Remarkably similar results ZorgusPrime2008-06-06 14:13:04
  7. and ?
  8. [MENU] [settings] [Ant+ Sport] goto HeartRate select YES Then Restart scan
  9. maybe a silly question, but have you paired them ? (also, does your cadence sensor work ?)
  10. DropZone, Step1: Pair & test another Garmin heart rate belt with your 705 Step2: Pair & test your heart rate belt with another Edge/Forerunner Then you can narrow down the problem and hopefully fix it. Otherwise: Step3: Hard reset your 705, and try again Step4: Firmware update, and try again Step5: Return to senderZorgusPrime2008-06-06 01:01:30
  11. MuXmAn, Those two websites require some serious concentration to figure out that they are talking PEAK BEAM Candlepower in the onc case, and like to put in some typo's in the second! We should have kept quiet, and watched you build a homemade light to at least match the 2500 candlepower one you have now, at +/- 31'000 lumens ;-) ZorgusPrime2008-05-30 13:21:06
  12. You might want to do that the other way round: 500 lumens = 6285 candlepower Night Tider, Peak Beam Candlepower is something entirely different as you pointed out.ZorgusPrime2008-05-30 12:48:49
  13. Alright ladies, my endless research has discovered the following links (including the aforementioned Sigma's, Hope's etc.) http://www.mtb-news.de/forum/showpost.php?p=4318393&postcount=355 In this second post, you get to see a Lupine Betty looking a bit undernourished !! http://www.mtb-news.de/forum/showpost.php?p=4318397&postcount=356
  14. Orange Agent, what lights are you running again ?
  15. Where does one buy a Cree Q5? I want to know that too. Been looking for a while. I have only found one UK site selling Q4s. Cree LEDs do not seem to be easily obtainable in small quantities. 1W Luxeons I could order online from a local SA supplier' date=' so they will have to do for now. [/quote'] You can always request a sample from their website
  16. That's the new MYO XP I think. I haven't used this, but I can try put it in perspective: (these are the only options with headmounts that I know of): Lupine = 1400 lumens Ayup = 320 lumens MYO XP = about 85 lumens (150 boost) "Normal/Other" Petzls = 16 to 35 lumens The battery is supposed to last 80 hours, so that is definately something. 17. Dinotte have a pretty decent backlight with mount http://store.dinottelighting.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=dinotte&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=265285670&Count2=182426095&ProductID=10&Target=products.asp
  18. Don't get me wrong, they have been on my christmas list since last year ;-)
