  1. shucks, mixed metaphors above!!!! The Tommo is 22 speed, the Dacc 16!!!!
  2. Good luck to you guys. Herald PE coming up soon, debating on whether to ride on my 11 spd Tommasini, or on a 10/12 speed retro. Rode my Daccordi, with CDA 16 spd a few years ago, but didn't change the gearing and rode 42/19 as my lowest/highest (whatever)!!! All I can say is that those young man's gears did not suit this old man's legs. Good luck to you both and all the others that may ride old 'classics'.
  3. You can get a SunRace 6/7/8 speed freewheel, that goes up to 28/30, makes 10 speed a lot easier, though the gaps between gears is significant
  4. Well done to you and all the other riders. Maybe one day, when I'm big!
  5. Seat tube clamp arrived. Don't have 9 speed Record at the moment, so 9 speed Veloce levers (sh......t)!
  6. somehow messed this up, herewith the piece of 'old' paper!!!!!!
  7. Anyway, if you decipher it, it says Tony Impey on the top. So I contacted Tony and this is what he replied: Hi Vic, That was my bike sold it to a guy in the Cape in the eighties. My Club Johannesburg Cycling Racing Team which was Sponsored by TI Raleigh at the time donated a Raleigh 753 to me. For being the Club Omnium Champion . Won 3 SA individual Pursuit Titles on it. “ SA 20km and record holder 1976 on it. “ SA Games 40km Gold Medal on it. “ SA Games 4000m IND Pursuit Title on it Great Memories. Please send a pic. Regards Tony So now the bike has some real history and thanks to Tony for replying, so real SA history in my hands.
  8. For those of you that follow this thread religiously, you might remember Eppie (riding Ara at the mo) posting a coupe of threads on this bike. Well. I acquired it, swopped for an SA frame and goodies, so Eppie could build and ride Ara. Eppie found out some nice info re this frame, but no real history. Well, things have changed!!!!! I was stripping the bike yesterday morning, to begin a restoration project, not sure yet, but nevertheless. Stripped off everything, for polishing and cleaning etc. Held the frame upside down and a piece of 'old' paper fell out of the seat tube!
  9. A Bianchi. No idea of the model, I think it's a mid 80s Mondiale. I bought the frame restored, so it's very difficult to say, but it's beautiful none the less. A mixture of Record and 1987 Cobalto brakes. I think she's lovely and my daughter agrees!
  10. Had a busy couple of weeks. Thought I'd share some of it with you. Here are 2 of my completed projects, another 2 almost done, wait for a week or so. My COLNAGO TITANIO (actually a Bititan, but the early ones, 93 to about 95, were called just TITANIO). A mixture between Chorus and CDA.
  11. You've shown me yours, I'll show you mine!!! But you'll have to wait a while!
  12. A friend has a Specialised Epic, which he wants to sell. I haven't seen the bike, just this photo. But, I'm assuming it's a 93/94/95 ali lugged carbon frame. Looks like 105, the crank anyway and about 55/56 cm size. Anyone interested? I'm happy to go and see it and get more pics, if anyone wants. What do you think a fair price would be????
  13. Have you, or LC, any idea what model Bianchi the frame is????
  14. It's of the RetrospectiveCycles stall at EroicaBritannia a couple of years ago.
  15. Multichoice / Dstv must be feeling the pain, YEY! Another rubbish ADVERTORIAL in MyBroadband/Businesstech http://businesstech.co.za/news/columns/136623/why-i-miss-dstv/
  16. I'm not sure whether 11k was R or $, or £, but http://www.steel-vintage.com/sold-bikes-and-parts/stelbel/ has had a few Stelbel bikes for sale and none has gone for huge numbers. In R, yes, European bikes are expensive, but if it's worth collecting!!!! Also, maybe give Nial a message at http://www.retrospectivecycles.com/ he tends to be cheaper than Steel-Vintage and he'll look for the bike you want!!!. You never know, bought my Fantini from him for£150 (when the R was 11/1)
  17. You could take a drive up to Joeys and check out Ron Thompson's DHCs, he has a couple!!! Otherwise, a couple of links: http://mikesbikes.co.za/project-dhc/ https://www.visi.co.za/vintage-bicycle-collection/ http://bicyclemaintenancecompany.blogspot.co.za/2009/03/my-own-fixie-dhc-il-campione.html
  18. And my favourite Brand!!!
  19. I've just bought 4 retro (apparently 2nd hand, but clean) cycling jerseys from PEPPERTREELONDON. Thought they were relatively cheap, so thought I'd spread the word!!!! http://peppertreelondon.co.uk/men/sports/cycling-jerseys http://peppertreelondon.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/thumbnail/1000x1194.6902654867/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/C/W/CW0195..jpg
  20. Did you ride that Moser to the Argus Expo a couple of years ago?? If that was you, I REALLY WASN'T TRYING TO STEAL IT!!!!!!
  21. Heads up, best price I've seen for a while, in black, brown and white. Postage to SA is reasonable, especially if you're buying a couple of pairs. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replacement-Campagnolo-Nuovo-Record-Tan-Gum-Brown-Brake-Lever-Rubber-Hoods-/331788644955?var=&hash=item4d4024f25b:m:mw8n3jQuyTrQMaww-zmvAog http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/vkoAAOSwepZXRIKZ/s-l1600.jpg
  22. Perhaps not a great photo, but an interesting one! Took it about a week ago, anyone have any info on the cloud formation???? Huawei P7
  23. One day, not sure when!!! Have a couple of other projects first. A pair of Deltas i bought cheaply, but in poor condition, so stripped and wracking my brains on how best to restore them. Some very bad corrosion and pitting. A pair if seized '73 Dura Ace calipers, same thing.
  24. Bianchi Mondiale, probably 1987/89
  25. I likey, likey! Very nice. Everything is available at a price, some cheaper than others, What brake levers are they, I might have.
