  1. Not that retro, but there's something I like about lugged carbon bikes. 1993 Specialized Epic Shimano Tricolour (6403) brakes, hubs, shifters and DA 7402 FD & RD.
  2. So I showed my 1990 Specialized MTB https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/140079-show-me-your-specialized/page-27?do=findComment&comment=3067382 NOW, my 1993 Epic road warrior!!!!! One of Specialized's first attempts at a carbon road bike. Aluminium lugs and carbon tubes. Geometry a bit strange, but a lovely bike all the same. That's it and that's all, no other Specialized bikes.
  3. My S-Works (not new, but new for me)! I'll show my (new) 25 year old Epic (original Specialised carbon road bike).
  4. A wise man indeed!!!! I wish I had been as wise and kept all the Campag brake levers and friction shifters I chucked off and replaced with aero 600 levers, and SIS, as most of us did back then. Aaah well, the advantage of hind sight.
  5. Intrigued!!!!!
  6. Although I've been on FaceBook for some years now, I'm quite a new user, if you know what I mean? Anyway, had a friend request the other day from someone (something), Colnago fanatics might find interesting. His prices are cheap, but no idea how much shipping costs would be. Not sure if any of you have seen this, but very, very interesting!!!!! http://www.handbuiltbicyclenews.com/c26-frame-builders/227-battaglin-to-focus-on-steel-and-phase-out-carbon-fiber-frames Battaglin to focus on steel and phase out carbon fiber frames Anticipating a market shift toward steel frames, the storied Italian brand is bringing all its frame production back in house, offering custom options, and is renewing its relationship with Columbus. Alessandro Battaglin explains the changes.............................
  10. Well, it's HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you all, so I thought I'd leave you with an experience. I'd preferred if it was a TOMMASINI, less race cred, but ooodles more passion!!!!!!
  11. I know this is not the NORM for this thread, but I just like it so much!!!!! S-Works MTB, probably around 90/91 (I'd welcome any info), Ritchy brakes, XT components, RaceFace cranks and Hope hubs on Mavic Ceramic hoops, with colourful anodised Ti spokes. Must have been absolutely top of the range 25 years ago. And it rides like a dream (wish I did).
  12. Naaaah! That Ferrari's carbon, wouldn't fit in with my other bikes.

  15. A 9 spd chain will work, the cogs are very slightly thinner, but not enough to make much difference. 10 speed too will work.
  16. Sorry DJR, but yes you can use the 11 speed cogs. Just use your 9 speed spacers Assuming that the cogs can be separated to singles of course, which is easy anyway.
  17. More. Only 5 years, so not old school. Where is the boerewors curtain? Somewhere in Moz, if so, I know where!!!
  18. You could be right! I haven't seen the bike 'in the flesh', only the photo you've seen. When I spoke to the owner, she wasn't too sure if was ali or steel. The steel ones could certainly be mid 80s, they did exist, so a goggle search indicates. But if it's ali, then it's likely to be 90s. But, either way, I decided against it. The carbon fork suggests that if it's an 80s, it's missing the original fork. (they had steel forks). And if it's the original fork, as the owner seems to think, then it's 90s. So you might well be correct.
  19. Apparently it's an early 80s frame, though difficult to find anything in my short goggle search
  20. Got offered this this morning, COPPI aero steel track frame, Gimondi cranks, Campag high flange hubs. All this for R4k I would have taken it, except it's not the original fork , loses a lot of value that way and I don't know if I'll ever find a real fork. Anyone else interested????
  21. Me neither, but it seems a few marques tried the configuration before GT made it their own!!!

  23. I was and am a pretty average cyclist! Never really got into competitive cycling until I got a stress fracture from running, sometime around 1981. Then I bought a 'real' bike and started riding and loved it. I rode with lots of the 'hot boys' and almost always brought up the rear, but I did enjoy it and it helped with running and triathlons. Anyway, to cut a long and boring story short, I bought this Alan frame (1984) in about 86, intending to sort it and attempt to ride track. I never sorted it, it's been in my spare room, garage, container for 30 years!!!! But, here she is, Maillard hubs on Rigida tubby rims; kalloy stem and no name bars. Campag seat post and Sugino cranks. Probably still won't ride her, no tracks anywhere near here!!!!
  24. Interesting article!!!!!! Retro: Shimano and Campagnolo's greatest design blunders http://road.cc/content/feature/190040-retro-shimano-and-campagnolos-greatest-design-blunders?sort_bef_combine=created%20ASC&sort_order=ASC&sort_by=created&page=1
