  1. Never had any problems with the straps stretching or anything like that. Been using these for quite a few years now and put a lot of hard km's on both pairs I have owned. Quality and durability is really great.
  2. Specialized MTB sport for around R1K. http://www.specialized.com/za/en/ftr/shoes/mtb-shoes/sport-mtb Best shoes you can get for the cash. No ratchet, but IMHO ratchet systems only break and cost you more money in the long run.
  3. Had both.... The Shimano hubs are really bad. They tend to get dirt in them very easily and start grinding and moaning very quickly. The Mavics (CrossMax) have cartidge bearings that are not only less prone to junk getting in, but also very easy / cheap to replace and service.
  4. I have the R1s. Used Shimano Deore and XT before. The R1 has much better stopping power and the brake modulation is fantastic. The fact that you can set the lever distance on the lever itself also works really well. The only downside is that they can get a bit noisy with dust and water on the discs. Also, the pads can be a bit expensive (At local LBS, though should work out cheaper online). Unfortunately cannot comment on the T1's...
  5. Buy your wife a bike and get her riding. Even if the hates it now, she will soon change her mind... But in all seriousness, Hanging the bike on the front wheel should not have any effect on the shock or other components. Been doing it at the office in our bike room for years. (Yes, we have a bike room at the office ) If nothing works, sell your wife on TheHub classifieds.
  6. +1
  7. Thing is that ticks do not only carry tick-bite fever (the 2% you are referring to...i.e lime disease), but also a host of other diseases like Spotted fever, Q fever, Ehrlichiosis and parisites like Babesiosis and Encephalitis. These can all kill you, so no... don't get bitten in the first place. Tabard works a charm and definitely repells them before biting. Frontline and some of the similar products contain toxins that kill fleas, ticks etc, while Tabard just does the repelling job. They latch onto you and before biting the Tabard makes them just drop off. Safest, cheapest and known to work. (The alcohol thing sounds nice, but is to darn expensive )
  8. Old fashioned Tabard spray (the one in the spray can). The frontline will work too, just more expensive...
  9. nuff said
  10. Makes sense indeed! Good luck with the repairs (bike and body), and do not try to use blood as chainlube again please...
  11. Maybe first find out if the shop has bladed spokes (if I am looking correctly) in stock if you want to go riding the weekend. If not rather try another LBS. The bike-shops don't always carry them bladed spokes in stock. (Guessing they are Mavic wheels?)
  12. You meant Maxxis? I found these to work well...Raing Ralphs, RaceKings and Spez Fastrak/Control mix. Good grip, little rolling resistance and tough. For the tar though, all these might get eaten up quite quickly.
  13. They also swore at you. It was not only the littering. Nothing wrong with using a forum to tell your story and make an example, mabe not of the person, but of what can happen if you make yourself guilty of such things.
  14. I've felt like getting out of my car and throwing the stompie back in when I see someone chuck their stompie out of their car window at a red robot. So many fires have been caused by irresponsible smokers in this way. (Probably the nature of the beast). Thus far I have not had the guts.... Anyone know what the legal implications would be if one would do something like that? Oh, and Smimby.... good on you to post the thread and pic!
