  1. Cool. Good luck with the lo-carbing! Just talking from my experience, maybe skip the dried fruit and bananas. Same effect on your body as the gels. And be carefull with the nuts. Hidden carbs deluxe.
  2. no results... that sucks
  3. Lets face it, the Carte Blanche segment on HFLC / Banting was pretty lame. Uninformative. No science, just sensationalism. The debate on Twitter after was the usual hogwash of dieticians (pro and am) spouting garbage about "everything in moderation - eat less move more - Noakes has no science to back up his claims". AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!! I don't know how Prof Tim keeps going. Power to him.
  4. Yeah, I think some European company was trying to copyright the word "Rooibos".
  5. Yeah, I think some European company was trying to copyright the word "Rooibos".
  6. U can't sell fakes. Regardless if you tell the buyer or not. That's just asking for ****.
  7. Guess us Saturday workers are doomed to do Babbas over and over and over and over... FML... Because I'm working Saturday I'm flying thru to Sabie after work at 1 to do Sundays halfy *sad face here*
  8. Regarding calories. My opinion. They do count... but don't count them. THEY'RE NOT RELEVANT ENOUGH. Three weeks will not give u an indication if the "diet" "works". It can only work. It's science. Take it over a year before you decide it doesn't "work". Let me guarantee you, it works. I lost 23 kgs in 2005 and been stable within 3 kgs since. My tips: Make sure you track fat for a few days though to get used to the amount of fat you need. Use an app like myfitnesspal to track fat (BUT DONT COUNT CALORIES - NOT RELEVANT). 70% of intake should come from fat. Remember it's NOT lo-carb high protein. It's lo-carb hi-fat moderate-protein. Don't worry about quantities of food, the brain will do that for you IF your fat is high enough. If your fat is high enough you CANNOT feel hungry.
  9. I'd say you should drop the banana and just go for half an apple. Will spike ur glucose and make you hungry shortly after. And don't bother with the brown rice. Rather have a salad. Don't worry about food quantities. Your brain will regulate that on its own. You don't Just try to keep the fat up, use an app like myfitnesspal to track ur fat. Get it over 70% of intake but DONT COUNT CALORIES. Its pointless. To quote Mark Sisson: Eat lots of plants and animals (self explanatory) and avoid poisons (all breads, grains, rice, root veg, processed food, food in sealed packets)
  10. Contact Billy at http://allinevents.co.za I'm sure they'll do it
  11. always on a frikking Saturday!!! aaarrggghhh I work on a Saturday, Sunday would be sooooo much better.
  12. thanks for this thread, i didn't know you could log races... doh!
  13. Article says... "Canola oil is a refined vegetable oil made from the crushed seeds of the canola plant." WRONG! No such thing as a Canola plant!!! Made from Rape seeds!!! The Canadians invented the word Canola 'cos who the f*** would buy RAPE seed oil... Big food industry bullish!t. Stick to food... butter, lard, ghee, coconut oil. Yum. Not industrial waste. But as an ingredient for biodiesel, Canola oil is pretty good.
  14. SUCKED that they only had coke on the finish line at 94.7 Nice article from Dr John Briffa - Two major studies conclude that saturated fat does NOT cause heart disease. http://www.drbriffa....-heart-disease/
  15. Don't bonk ever again. Bacon and eggs and bulletproof coffee before the race, water and cold green jasmine tea (just 'cos I like it like that ) and a few nuts with ginger during. Finished about 11:00 and only felt like lunch at around 14:00. Sucked that they only had coke on the finish line. Check out the LCHF thread. Sharp. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/125843-lchf-low-carb-high-fat-diet-ver-2/
  16. ja ja, I was told "slow and steady wins the race" WRONG... apparently fast and steady was racing too. Whenever anyone asks me what time I did I tell them "a two eighty five"
  17. Amazing event. Well worth the entry fee. Missed my target by 10 minutes but beat last years time by 50 minutes. 3:25. Imagine the putting that show together... mind-blowing. Well done 94.7 peoples.
  18. helped within 10 minutes this morning, loved the vibe in the hall. quick walk around the expo. bought a tire for me MTB bike racing ralph for 500 bucks, pair of 94.7 socks for me and me mates, bag of 10 bombs for 90 bucks (nice) and got suckered into buying a neck massage lotion thing that comes in a roll on and smells like peppermint... that dude caught me lekker well played massage dude... shameless plug for me charity while i'm here: SOS Childrens Villages. donate R50 or whatever here: http://www.givengain.com/activist/105125/projects/6309/#extras
  19. LCHF for 12 months, die hard, fully committed, full ketosis, test every day, spinning instructor at VA. If someone in class asks for advice on diet or race nutrition do I give it? No ways. I'm terrified to. I want to tell everyone how well I've done, how fantastic I feel, but I don't. I want to tell everyone not to believe the bull**** they've been fed for years about nutrition and see the LCHF light. And I'm just a humble fitness guy, I'm no doctor, professor, medical aid director. What Prof. Noakes has done took big nuts. What massive effort will it take to turn around the med aids and insurance companies who are entrenched in the prudent diet and reliant on maintaining the status quo? Daunting.
  20. If ur using iPhone 4s or 5 any bluetooth HR strap is cool. I use the Wahoo and the Polar. I like using the Wahoo app because you can share to Strava, My Fitness Pal, Garmin, Nike+. I also use the Polar Beat app AND the Vitality Fit app. I have all three running at once and use the REFLKT on my bike. They sell all the Wahoo stuff at The Gadget Shop or online at Wahoo SA.
  21. Venue is fine, route is fine (bit boring, but ok) the ONLY thing they need to do is cut out the single track technical bits. And when there are so many noobs, u have to to be aware that a big curb is a potential bottleneck.
  22. I disagree. Look at the facts. They are advertising a RACE. They are timing it. You HAVE to buy a timing chip. They advertise they are doing seeding. They KNOW there are 7000 people. You know there are 7000 people doing it, so you're not expecting hugely technical single track, you know what's coming, you're getting jeep track. Fair enough. So, 6900 people know they have no chance at a podium. But as in my case, they gauge their performance on beating last years time or against ur mates or Strava or whatever it is. Just because ur not a top contender doesn't mean time is not important. More than a 5 min bottleneck screws up your race. Now, answer me this. If you were chief organizer of a 7000 field race, would you have included that single track? Of course you wouldn't. You're not an idiot.
