  1. Yes, I have Gatorskins and have had punctures with tyres less than 200km old.

I always (race and training) carry:

    • 2 x Bombs
    • 2 x Plastic Tyre Levers
    • 1 x Tube
    • 1 x Patch Kit
    • 1 x Multi Tool

Pretty sure whatever happens, I'll be able to deal with it.

    Until you chain breaks?

  2. cant find the road cycling events?

You can add the event, as long as you provide a link to the online results with your time. They will confirm and give you the points.

Also note that they only go back through 6 months of results. Anything earlier will be rejected. And there is a limit that you will reach pretty quickly so don't bother entering old events.

  3. I signed up this morning and will be training hard after a poor performance at Die Burger. I've heard the climb to the end is tough but if you can finish strong then I'm sure you'll have covered 90% of the Argus training.

  4. Yeah, does seem so. Couldn't you jjust go into your LBS if you’re a regular customer and asked for help?

ErgoFit if also R550 for one bike, it could go up to R950 for ErgoMax with two bikes. http://renayg.wordpress.com/ergofit/

The difference between a bike fit done at a LBS and one done professionally (ErgoFit/CycleFit) are worlds apart. I've had both done and the professional fitment is much more scientific and tailored to your particular riding experience (muscle condition), flexibility and height.

LBS fitment is eye balled and generic as a one size fits all.

If all you're looking for is what's the right bike size for you then use this: http://www.ebicycles.com/bicycle-tools/frame-sizer It's close enough for a one size fits all.

If you want to optimize performance on the bike and have niggling pains then go for the professional fitment.

  5. Its a 56cm. I'm 1.78m tall with a 82 cm inseam. Ride medium 17.5' mtb. Was told to get a 55cm with 170mm cranks.

I've just been for an ErgoFit, I'm 1.765m, same inseam. I ride a 55cm and it's slightly too big. I had to get a shorter stem to make it fit. I'd say that a 56cm is a size too big as has been said already.

  6. I had a new wheel built with a SRAM rear hub in April, now I'm told that the freewheel has worn and needs to be replaced.

Can anyone tell me if the freewheel body should wear out so quickly or if it was faulty and what recourse I have? I have the bike washed and lubed after almost every ride so I have maintained it. I ride about twice a week, one mid week training ride and a race on the weekend. +- 50km a week during peak season.

The LBS won't replace it and the distributors won't replace it under warranty because it's a moving part.

Should I just suck it up and take it as wear and tear or do I have reason to chase it?

  7. I think some brakes are an issue. I run only Shimano brakes and havent had a problem hanging them like that. But I suppose there is always a first!

It would be interesting to know, this was the only reason I could think of that my brakes would need to be bled. I've got the 2012 XT brakes.

Any experts out there that would be able to confirm if it's safe to store a bike (with hydraulic brakes) upside down? Maybe something for mythbusters....

  8. My attempt. A couple of bucks and there she blows. Planks will be attached to beams in my new garage. This was just temporary. And notice the foam on the handlebar which kept on imprinting itself on my forehead smile.png

Isn't this a problem for hydraulic brakes? I stored my bike up side down and had to have my brakes bled after just a few months from new.

Seems that the bubbles from the resivoir move up the pipes to the pistons and you lose power.

Maybe someone that know's about these things better than I do could comment?

  9. but when paying for the race you pay R50 more than a member so they should give non members with a chip a time !!!

It's something like R260 for a PPA membership. If you do one race you save about R70 (R35 for day license, +-R30 discount and R5 for temp number), so if you do one race every quarter you will save R280.

  10. From a noobs point of view

Got some really good newbie advice and service from City Cycles. A gent by the name of Chris andanother young fellow took time to explain the dead basics over and over again to me

Mate of mine bought a Momsen from Cycle lab in Tygervalley and had endless hassles, until they agreed to swap the bike out, he loved the bike but the workshop and customer service was a tad lacking. So i stay away.

CWC, awesome shop, drool, but unfortunetaly I get the distinct impression they dont cater for guys like me, I bought GPS computer and got 2minutes rushed assistance before the sales guy left me in a dust cloud to help a more cyclist looking cyclist.

Also went there looking for a bike twice but similar feeling and left without buying, sorry uncle Chris dont want to run your shop down, I can see you guys do a great job but just my feeling.

Then my now LBS, around 50 km from home but worth it Geco Cycles, took ages explaining everything to me, then ages setting up the bike and o boy hat a difference, comfortable and loving it. I felt a tad guilty becuase pro cyclist should get this type of service, not guys trying to lose weight and have fun rides. Must say they have got my vote.

But again, just my noob opinion

I am going to second this, firstly on the Cycle Lab in Tygervalley. I had great service from the sales staff and spend much more at the shop besides for the initial bike purchase. In the 8 months since I bought the bike, I've had to replace the headset (worn), the chain (worn) and now it's the rear freebody (worn). I bought a wash and lube service package with them and wash my bike after every ride and I don't ride more than 50km a week.

I'm now stopping my support of Cycle Lab.

CWC is great but it seems they cater for the upper, upper market.

  11. I entered last night on the weather forecast of a bit of rain and wind. This morning the forecast has made a drastic turn and there's crazy amounts of rain and wind seems to be getting better: http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/table_bay

I know the Spur Adventure race in Grabouw has been cancelled due to extreme weather. The trail run in Dirtopia still seems to be going ahead.

What are the chances that the race will be cancelled due to bad weather?

  12. American classic 420 aero or ksyrium elites or Easton ea90 will all be massive upgrades and cost you between 6-8 k.

Wheels can easily cost as much as the bike!

My bank manager is not going to be happy.

    Bike: R7K

    Wheels: R6K

Feeling while riding on chapmans peak: PRICELESS!
