  1. don't believe everything you read, I actually own the frames I have mentioned here and these are actual weights on the same scale. the scott spark includes the rear shock
  2. My Vida 5 frame weighed 2.2kg. I have since bought an Orbea Alma 29er frame which weighed 2.1kg (this bike sells for R25k new) I also own a Niner EMD whose frame weighs 1.9kg. I also own a Scott Scale Expert 29er and it's frame weighs 2.3kg. I have also ridden all these bikes and the Vida is not lacking in anyway. Don't tell me my advise / opinion is ridiculous. If you have unlimited funds good for you. My advise to someone wanting to spend max R5k on a 29er is sound unlike your don't buy secondhand get a S-works theory
  3. it would have taken a year or so to save the extra R7k in your scenario and in that time I would have nothing to ride .....
  4. I paid R800 for a 3x10 XT crank and bb, R500 for both the XT 3x10 shifters. Bought Novatec hubs for R1600 on ebay and rebuilt wheels using existing spokes and rims for R400 at Cyclelab. Then the XT rear der was R600 and the front was R250. I also sold all the old parts for R1200 on the Hub. Like Ahsanrz I did not want to nor have more than R5k to spend initially and did not want to buy a secondhand bike that may have been thrashed. Once I had decided I enjoyed mtb more than road I upgrade parts as I had cash. Eventually sold my road bike and Silverback and bought a dual sus Scott Spark 29er frame from Conrad on the hub and built it up. It has cost less than R12k including a Fox F32 fork and Sun Ringle rims.
  5. I bought my first 29er a new Silverback Vida 5 for R5k, i had no complaints. slowly upgraded all the components, first wheels then crankset and finally shifters and dérailleurs all to 10 speed XT. all 2nd hand off the Hub at great prices. I sold the bike after 12 months of use for R6500. I suggest you go to Silverback website and find the closest dealer and see what the Vida range sells for
  6. MRP x1 and hope ring arrived yesterday afternoon
  7. Sounds like you had a bad experience, mine has been good so far, I have a cobalt 11 seatpost on my Niner and a cobalt 3 on my Scott Spark, no problems to date, touch wood. Must admit I didn't like their eggbeaters, no quality problems just didn't like the feel. I needed a 15mm conversion kit for the front and though my lbs was unable to get them I called Bicicletta and they have them for me no problem.
  8. Hey Wayne, they are Crank Bros Cobalt 2 for 29ers. Details here http://www.crankbrothers.com/wheel_cobalt.php, CRC has a few on special. Frikken awesome and I weigh in at 94kg so they not scared either
  9. Thanks, it's an ISM Adamo mtb saddle called the peak, they are more common amongst triathlon riders. Saint chain ring, MRP x1 has just arrived from CRC, still need to fit it although it has been ok thus far
  10. Bought the frame from a hubber and just finished putting it together, now to ride !!!!
  11. I have upgraded my wheels
  12. My black on black GT, even blacked out the writing on the tyres
  13. Agree
  14. 5 people here and 10 people there will have no impact, .............. all of us together? I will ride as many as I can get to in memory of a true South African great but I want to send a message with all other cyclists that we will miss him and that we are sick and tired of being targets for taxis. Burry deserves a BIG send off
  15. plenty people still on holiday, today / tomorrow is too soon to organise a proper tribute. someone suggested the 25th which would seem more practical, my 5c
  16. Shocking, RIP Burry, condolences to his family.
  17. that sucks tyerone, hope you catch them, will keep a look out for them

    what is the distance?
  19. doing the sprint event Seeker 911, pretty sure it will be wetsuit legal, I've done 2 of the BSG races in the last month and water temp was only up to 18 allowing us to use wetsuits at both. I live close to the lake and it has been cold and wet for a good few days so I doubt the water temp will be climbing. I drove past about a week ago and the lake is full but I did not get to the water to check quality
  20. Reviews please from the guys that got them, I almost bought a 310 until I got a review fro a real user and heard about the swim problems. I'm not forking out the cash till I know the 910 works in the water!
