  1. When i did the race in 2012 they transported your bike box from the start to the finish. Collect it at the finish pack your bike and catch the shuttle to the airport. Contact the organizers and confirm, they are extremely helpful.
  2. There is a shuttle from the finish to the start.

    Attakwas 2012

Have taken the plunge and have entered for the first time. I am 43 and no racing snake and just want to finish the event within the cutoff time. Would you recommend riding a 26" full suspension (Morewood Zula) or a 29er hardtail. There is a weight advantage with the 29er as well as it having a more comfortable riding position, but the terrain seems to suit the full suspension bike. I have ridden the 29er for between 8 and 10 hrs in 4 previous races, but never the Zula for more than 4 hrs. For me its not as relaxed as the 29er, but much more forgiving on the lower back. Thanks Siggie
  8. I use 2232 for my setting. Did the Engen MTB and got 64.9km on my polar and 65.4km on the Garmin Regards Siggie
  9. I recall paying R1450 for the 2011 event, however at the new price won’t be doing it in 2012. In my view this event is no longer value for money. As it is starting in Durbanville one can only assume a large part of day 1 will be on the Meerendal and Contermans single track.
  10. I agree with your views. The same happened when i rode with them last year. The group jumped every red light from the bike shop to Wellington Road and had very little regard for the traffic rules. That was the first and last time i rode with them.
  11. Just had Maxxis Cross Mark UST Tubeless fitted on Friday to my Giant 29er P-XC2 Rims. Rode the Franschhoek Lions / Porcupine race on Saturday and no issues.
  12. Just got it today. 2011 Giant XTC 1 29er
  13. Weight is 13 kgs. I have Mavic 819 Tubeless rims on DT swiss hubs
  14. I changed from the Anthem (2008 3.5 travel) to the Zula a few months ago and where i found a significant improvement was in rocky and technical downhill sections. My old Anthem had the standard rear shock and i think the fox RP 23 is a significant improvement. I weigh 98kgs and am tall and i found the Anthems front wanting to lift off the ground on the steep inclines, with the Zula, i don't find this at all. It is definitely a more comfortable ride, but the bike is not light. All in all i am overjoyed with the Zula and would not change anytime soon. There is only one annoying fact in that in the mud, the clearance between the back tyre and the frame is not that great, and you will have a build up mud and the frame being scratched. The chain also runs very close to the rear suspension pivot when on the smallest blade on the crank. I noticed when i stripped down the bike after the Grave Travel that the chain had scratched the frame. I personally will not ride my Zula again in a muddy race. I have just fitted the new XT 10 speed components and they are definitely not suited to muddy riding conditions. I had to wash the bike at every river crossing as the mud was destroying the components.
  15. 438 meters over the 16 km route
  16. I have the Google Earth file from this mornings Contermanskloof MTB trail ride. PM me and i will e-mail it to you
  17. Get to a debt counsellor before they institute legal action because once they have instructed an attorney approaching a debt counsellor wont help you. If you have received a letter of demand giving you 20 business days to pay (S129 letter)and you dont make a satisfactory repayment they will hand you over. The demand letter should state that you have the right to approach a debt counsellor. Once the debt counsellor has written to the creditor, this will give you, if i recall correctly 60 business days grace before they can continue with action, if they are not satisfied with the debt counsellors repayment proposal.
  18. I have both the Polar 725X and Garmin 305 and I enjoy them both equally. The Polar 725X has better software but you can do more with the Garmin. I ride with both units on my mountian and road bikes. You can do much more with the Polar software than the Garmin Training Centre Software. I use the Garmin mostly for races and training where i use the courses from previous races and race the virtual partner and try and improve my time. I also enjoy checking the routes on Google Earth. The Garmin came in handy today at the Stellenbosch MTB ride as I could check how for it was to the top of some of those hills.
  19. There is no difference. Just bought the Anthem S, sold the parts and the frame ended up costing me R5000.
