  1. Oh yes, but someone, somewhere is warming up their chequebook for next year's Tour.
  2. Yeah, shees. He pulled hugely, and still had time for that? I reckon if he wasn't tied to Wiggins, we woulda seen a different tour. I reckon he could have put some time into Wiggins in the mountains.
  3. Nibali's going to kick near the top. I think he's got a bit more than Wiggins has.
  4. I think Wiggins should be supporting Froome.
  5. Yup, with 5km to go, he's toast. Today is where he loses the podium.
  6. Second attack. C'mon Evans, join Nibali.
  7. I'd expect an attack from Nibali or Wiggins on the last climb. Evans was pushed to the limit, so they know what his limits are today.
  8. Yeah, part of the focus is to go after the "systemic" aspects of doping, rather than punish the end-users who are just replaced each year. Think "arrest the dealers, not the users".
  9. Well...yes. It seems so. (Tongue in cheek, somewhat. The dude has been my hero for ages. Any doping certainly wasn't the be-all-end-all of his success, and he was in an era of lots of doping. But what does irritate me is his seriously aggressive way of dealing with anyone who, in hindsight, seems to have been right. If you want to write books and say you didn't do it, and call everyone who says you were bad names, then when you're proved to be a doper, face the music, and apologise. I'd love to read his next book: "See, I told you it wasn't about the bike". )
  10. Nibali and Evans should work together. I'm pleased for Wiggo, but he's a bit smug in the interviews. I'd like to see a proper challenge.
  11. Absolutely, woulda been happy with either Jens or Voeckler. They both did the business.
  12. Voeckler! Now that is a killer, beautiful ride. I love watching the hardest worker win. He did so much up the hill, got the spotty jersey, still has enough guts to go for the stage.
  13. Some of you might remember that I had some issues with my GoPro making a ticking/clicking sound when it shook, which happens a lot on a MTB obviously. I took it back to get it checked out, and I just got a call. GoPro replaced it, no arguing or hassles of any kind! Companies like that deserve some support, so here's mine. Thanks, GoPro. No qualms about recommending it to friends.
  14. It's like a mountaintop finish - people dragging themselves in many minutes later.
  15. Also, looks like Andre Greipel has a power balance thing on his wrist. The scammers are going to milk that one for years.
  16. Cavendish might be in trouble. If you look at the last dash for the line, he's the only one not standing up in the sprint. I wonder if his hand is causing him enough pain to keep him in the saddle? Damned close race - I was pulling for the breakaway.
  17. Sagan did very well to win supporters over yesterday. Killer ride! Something did surprise me the day before though. In Cav's win on stage 2 Sagan lost two positions in the final dash, from 4th to 6th (if I remember correctly). On the day I suspected he wasn't able to mix it up at tour level, but obviously yesterday he did. So I wonder what accounts for the difference? Either the final uphill suited him more, or he just had a bad/unlucky day on stage 2. Be good to see how it plays out on other sprint stages! Whatever happens, to take 2 stage wins home on his debut tour is already huge.
  18. Yup, that's why I mention him as an exception. But historically (and in general) climbers != great TTers, so I'm asking for *why* they often can't ride TT when they obviously have great power-to-weight. The Schlecks, for example.
  19. Could someone explain this to me? How is a climber, who should have a heck of a sustainable power to weight, not able to do the same thing on the flats? Is it that your power/weight is optimised purely for uphills (ie very light) but stronger-but-heavier people can take you on the TT's where higher weight is less of an issue? Aside from drug opinions, there have been climber-TT racers like Armstrong & Contador, Evans is doing ok.
  20. I see the blood-doping indicated tests they're referring to are from 2009/10. So he retires, comes back, blood dopes, ruins career. I know that there are 10 associates testifying against him, but coming back to solidify the evidence is idiotic. If it's true. Sad. I really hoped it was nothing. Many cancer patients, and the sport, really needed him to be clean.
  21. Mountain stages. Turns out the best way to navigate their rubbish site is to just change the url for the images: http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/700/PROFIL.jpg http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/800/PROFIL.jpg http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/1000/PROFIL.jpg http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/1100/PROFIL.jpg http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/1200/PROFIL.jpg http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/1400/PROFIL.jpg http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/1600/PROFIL.jpg http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/1700/PROFIL.jpg
  22. I've always thought that some of the sections of the bike park are too dangerous. Hopefully someone will do something about it. She should stick to the green sections.
  23. Opinions aren't really important in these things, because many will try to push you down. If you want to make it a sustainable business, then you ideally want to maximise profit. That's your long-term pricing goal. It usually means charging a price where demand doesn't drop off too much but you're making enough per rider to be worth your while. Complications: - Short-term you might want to go for a price-penetration strategy - make it cheap enough that you attract people. Problem is, if you raise it later you'll get terrible whining. - Competitors are other bike parks. People will compare your offering and price to other bike parks, and they might feel e.g. "I can get lots more great riding at only 5 bucks more", or "ag, it's 20 bucks less, let's go there". You might have to market a bit, which means you need cash to market, which means you better have a plan to make money. - Distance is also a cost. Van Gaalens is awesome, but I don't go often because it's a mission. If it were down the road I'd be there now. Make sure e.g. harties weekenders know about your spot. - You could try e.g. R15 during the week, R30 on the weekend, with special student rates on proof of a student card. Check out what other comparable bike parks charge, ask riders why they go to the different ones, what they like and what they don't. For a great morning, R30 bucks is nothing. Compete on experience, not price.
  24. I reckon part of the reason they can afford good prices is because they don't have to support a high rental in some expensive retail outlet, or Northern-Suburbs staff who want good pay. LBS, you're paying extra for convenience and to ensure the future existence of said convenience, so most of the time I do buy local, but expensive items I always check.
  25. XTR has a chain-slap reducer built into it, from 2011. http://www.pinkbike....otter-2011.html Note - I buy XT derailleurs and SLX cranks. They're not my limiting factor in performance and usually you're getting very recent technology that's passed down from previous-model XTR.
