Just wanted to share this experience: Had been sukkeling with a creak in my saddle/seatpost for some time. In and out of various bike shops etc etc - no joy. Went out for a ride the other day with a group of guys - the one guy who I had never met before said he owned a bike shop and could fix the creak for me, so I stopped-he too a good look and to my shock and horror he points a crack in the seatpost weld. By this stage the crack was getting worse to the point that the bike was becoming dangerous to ride. No problem he says - here take my bike so that you can continue you on your ride and calmly hands over his sweet-looking Cannondale full carbon MTB for me to ride. To a guy he has never met before. Turns out his name is Corne Barnard from Rockhopper Adventures in Somerset West and has a Cannondale agency, so he offers to take my bike and sort out all the warranty claims etc. So he rides my bike back to his shop without sitting on the saddle (~20 km), submits the claim to Omnico and by the end of that same week has rebuilt my parts onto a beautiful new black and green Cannondale frame, swopped out my grips and changed my gear cables to improve shifting- all so that the bike is ready to ride by the following Friday. This to me is unbelievably good customer service- the type you seldom hear of any more, so a big thumbs up to Corne and John from Rockhopper Adventures for excellent service way beyond expectations. All I can say is that if anyone is looking for a bike shop in the Somerset West area, do yourselves a favour and look up Rockhopper Adventures (just behind La Romantica restaurant - close to the Mall)

Mmm, I will probably bleed if I try and bleed them myself... Watched the mechanic at the LBS doing this and he was battling - with all the right tools for bleeding, which I don't have. But it is as you say Mr Smimby - the pistons don't move when using the large flat screwdriver/old pads as the video (and pamphlet supplied with the pads) say they should - almost like there is too much fluid with no place to go. This is exactly the problem . What is your recommendation regarding tools to bleed the system?

Ja, if you can get the pistons back it would be easy. This set of calipers has already been replaced under warranty for this problem, but it still persists.

Anyone ever successfully replaced a set of brake pads in an Elixir 7 caliper? Apparently all you do is push the pistons back into the housing with the old pads in place and then insert the new pads. Yeah right. Like that's going to happen. Right after the cow jumped over the moon. After sukkling for an hour I finally had to concede defeat. This is the 3rd time I replace the pads and each time I have had to take the bike into my LBS and they have fitted the pads after draining oil/rebleeding and the whole nine yards. Give me Shimano brakes any day.

It was a good ride. Lots of walking up and down the wagon trail. Rode up to the plateau below Hanse Kop- didnt quite make the communication towers -lots of climbing. Then rode some of the WTW routes in grabouw - all in all a great ride ~80 km. Didnt quite make Groenlandberg, but I think it would be reachable without trying Hanse Kop. Started at 7 in Gordons Bay, back at 13h00 - so 6 hours in total. Good base mile training ride. I would also be interested in going up the wagon trail and then crossing over to ride some of the trails around Steenbras dam.

Any advice for someone wanting to ride up Sir Lowrys using the railway line + wagon trail to Groenlandberg? Anyone interested in riding on Sat 3rd March 60-80 km ride if possible?

I want to ride up the railway line up Sir Lowrys and then onto the other side (Hottentots Holland/groenlandberg) on Sat 3 March. Never done it before so should be interesting.

Was he perhaps knocked over by his cousin, the taxi driver with a shifting spanner as a steering wheel driving inside the yellow line at breakneck speed?

Good point Yster, I also ride a Flash 29er and feel a lot more comfortable riding rock gardens and steep switchback decents - but I guess it could be cos I am an old bally.
