  1. Go to: Lee at Sweat and Gears in Benoni - 083 459 2184 Chris at Mega Bike at East Gate - 078 882 8005 They have both worked on my bikes and have built a few. XT, SLX, etc. specialists
  2. No need to wait till next year. 1st of May (Thursday) is a public holiday --- and that's the day of the "Winter Fast One" --- can't think of a better way to spend it. Day was great with all the bottle necks and delayed starting and and and. Winter Fast One and Summer Fast One is on my calendar every year.
  3. I am a huge MOMSEN FAN and I ride one with SHIMANO xt ....... LOTS. But unfortunately I like SHIMANO more than SRAM .... so in this instance I would go SILVERBACK.
  4. MOMSEN 729 ..... I've got one and I love it.
  5. Hi ..... mountain bike: - your weight - flexibility (you can do some nice mountain bike rides as well as road races) - you can have a spare set of rims with slicks for road so there is less roll resistance Makes of bike ??? buy "the right bike" from the start .... look at MOMSEN or Merida ... Al frames - 29er XL
  6. add 10kg of weight to each roady
  7. It's got to do with the exchange rate (US $ vs SA Rand) ..... guys are not selling at cost + mark-up. They are selling at replacement costs. It's all good IF when the Rand does strengthen against the US Dollar they give you decreased prices imported on improved exchange rate. Any-thing you import is based on the above principles. The "old boring story" that SA exports it's best quality fruit, veg, fish and meat is true .... and the exporters benefit from this - BIG TIME. I have calculated $1.00 = R8-50 is nice in the middle ...... then every-one benefits.
  8. even though us mountain bikers "think" we are as tough as nails ... there are summer days with the rain where it is ride-able, but not enjoyable and the course / track is mucked up for a couple of days even after the rain stops. Then that is where the road bike comes in, you can still have a enjoyable ride - even if it's wet
  9. Hey - it's steep and it was on a Sunday and you did not have much of a choice - if only what he did and charged you for was worth the rate hey.
  10. I would then rather buy a used bike on "The Hub" from some-one in your area.
  11. Solomons Cycles have the Vredenstein FULL UST 26er on special for R100-00 a tyre
  12. Up in Jhb we are use to living in secure estates, but that gives you a false sense of security. Alarms, Beams, Security Gates. Your dog .... just check they don't try poisen him / her. Best to let him sleep inside at night. Also ... get yourself a "yapper" .... smaller dog that is awake ----- Sausage Dog, great family dog as well. Unfortunately .... break in's don't just happen here at night ---- in broad day-light while your at work. Buy a paintball gun and load it with pepper bullets and solids ..... doesn't kill but hurts like hell.
  13. ikons or killer bee
