As someone that is very new to MTB. (My bike is still being bought) Where should I start riding. I live very close to Bottelary (Zevenwaght). But I know that there are a few entries into the hills. Where should I start

Can I do it in on bike with no suspension? Just spend a lot of money on a proper road bike so have to do it old on my old bike. May not mortgage the house for a bike apparently.

About races in that part of SA. Does anybody know anything about a roadrace in Oudshoorn sometime in Sept or Oct? I need to plan my ride long in advance for fitness purposes.
