  1. Hi Ox_Wagon, Thank you, I tried resetting to the actual altitude as well as zero, but then as soon as I start an exercise on the Polar it resets to -(minus)488m and a temp of 60 degrees! I don't think the problem lies with barometric variances, rather I think I've messed up something with the battery change process. If I don't come right I'll try to get it to the Polar.
  2. I tried getting answers on Polar's website and came across a number of other people with the same problem. (See copied bit below). Anyone on the Hub have an answer for this problem? 27-03-2009, 21:27 #1 MartyT vbmenu_register("postmenu_14238", true); Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2009 Posts: 1 http://forum.polar.fi/clear.gif Problem setting altitude on S710 I recently changed the battery on my S710. All went well except that I can't seem to reset the altitude on the watch to any value other than between 2290 ft and 2385 ft. I live at 420 ft. Suggestions anyone? I can only use values between -2988m and 122m . I live at 300m. Polar shows now allways -488m. I may have the answerhttp://forum.polar.fi/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I did a battery change on my S710 and got altitude just over 2200 feet, I live at about 850 feet. Sounds like the same problem. I fixed it !!! by pressing the little reset button on the right side between the up and down arrows. At first the display went to what must be a test pattern and was pretty sure I had just distroyed the watch. But when I pressed the Start button (or was it the stop button?) the diplay went to time. I did have to reset the time and date; but the altitude is back around 850. ps. I also tried the two reset buttons on the back first and nothing happened. Anybody know what those do. 3. Hi Ryan, sorry for the late reply - paying the bills, some of them. Have a look at this link https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=24545&KW=cheap+tubeless BigBen explains it very well with pics aswell. I followed these instructions, but didn't split the tube down the centre, I used Conti Compact 20 Slim tubes with Presta valves which I split either side of the midline (if that makes sense) and didn't need to trim the tube afterwards. The tyre bead seats on the tube though. Lots of soapy suds help the tyre to seat properly. Add a cup of sealant and pump like crazy, a track pump worked perfectly well. I went for Stans based on what I read and heard, but I'm sure the other products are also good, it's important to follow the advice on Stans' website regarding the rotation of the wheel and resting it on a bucket or the like for the non UST tyrewall to seal properly. Been a coupla weeks now and no problems. Good luck
  4. I got a 2.2 Mountain King foldable from Northcliff cycles for R480 if I recall correctly. I then went the ghetto tubeless route which cost me about R50 for the BMX tube and R280 for the Stans, now that Stans should last me plenty tyres, also from Northcliff Cycles. So doing front & rear will cost me about R1150 which I'm doing over a few months as I'm still running my old High Roller out back. As for the MK I really like it and will run them for a while yet.

  6. I found a multitool on the Spruit ride on Saturday 21 March. If you think it may be yours please give me a full description of the multitool as well as approximately where and when it "jumped" out of your jersey pocket, may have been after a fall 'cause there was some "undulations" in the mud around the multitool. Let me know.
  7. I once had a recalcitrant (big word) piston up front on my LX's. I carefully pulled the lever to expose as much of the piston as I could which I then blasted with a citrus degreaser as it seemed as if just about microscopic bits of gunk had accumulated on the pistons. I then centred the calipers with feeler gauges, business card from now, to give a bit of space initially. That sorted my problem.
  8. The business card trick is a great idea, I used to slip a feeler gauge on either side if necessary. For that you need four hands though. Thanks Werner, business card it will be.
  9. Hey WW, The first thing to do is to ensure that your calipers are properly centred on your rotors. The way to do it is to loosen the calipers from the frame/fork and then pull the respective brake lever hard. Keep pressure on the lever and tighten the caliper again without moving the position of the caliper in relation to the rotor. It helps if you have a third hand. Hope it helps.
  10. The Ride On is less expensive than the G5 range and as good. I'd suggest you rather get the 9403 as opposed to the 9402 'cause it carries two bikes far enough apart to not have to invest in pool noodles. I alsohave the Hang On 972 which is so good if I only have two bikes and just want to go for a short drive on good roads, but the RideOn is still king. Contact Thule for a dealer in your area, I see Kroonstad has a distributor and I know that some 4x4 shops also carry stock and are well priced at times. Happy trails
  11. If we can play our game without overstepping the ref's interpretation of the rules , we'll win. Score: 23-5 for Springboks Go Bokke!
  12. Updated and merged all the files & data last night and it works a charm. Thanks again.
  13. Morning Thug, Thanks for the info, will update the exercise files this evening. Much appreciated.
  14. Hi all, I'd like to know whether, and if so, how it's possible to combine two exercises of the same day on the Polar software. Today's lsd entailed a stop that was longer than normal and the hrm had stopped recording by the time we got going again and I started a new exercise. On downloading it shows 2 separate exercises, but I want it to reflect as one exercise. Is it possible?
