  1. Indeed - took a swim off narrow section of the floating bridge at the finish (adventure - was a little windy at the time) & the dive knocked my bryton off its mount as well as my rudy projects off my face; chap who fell in front of me lost his glasses in the water too. Rather a frustrating end to a good ride.

    Sani2c 2015

Sani2c was great again, enjoyed the riding & the whole vibe, despite my partner pulling out halfway through day 2 due to illness, don't think the heat (I heard mention of 37 degrees C) was helping him - I filled up my Camelbak & bottle at WP1 and still almost didn't have enough fluid to last to Nandos WP. Didn't enjoy the floating bridge this year: 30 minute wait to get on it, had to stop at twice once on the bridge, and then it was moving so much with the wind (at the finish of the Adventure) that I took a dive into the lagoon once on the narrow last section & lost my prescription cycling glasses & GPS; the chap who fell just in front of me also lost his glasses so I imagine it was an expensive fall for lots of us who ran out of talent. In hindsight, all those people who walked the last narrow bit (and caused the delays) may have been on to something as I saw quite a few guys come short. Only other gripe is that the Nandos burger at registration was quite light on chicken...

Quick thank you to Entelect for sorting out the problems I experienced while booking the car shuttle (site wouldn't let me pay) - the person who assisted me was very helpful and got the problem fixed while I was on the phone - very impressed.
  4. Had a similar experience over Xmas 2 years ago - gentle early morning solo road ride from Betty's to Kogelbaai & back, on the way back a bakkie towing a boat almost clipped me at high speed (he was going way too fast especially consdering he is towing a boat) - no oncoming traffic so he had plenty of space so really no excuse - not a fun experience, don't think I've ridden that road again.
  5. My local bike shop arranged the prescription lenses from Rudy Project. Not cheap & had to wait ages 'cos I ordered just before Italy shut down for their summer holiday but am very happy with them (but luckliy my prescription has hardly changed in years).
  6. Try cycle-specific insurance from Garrun Group - they paid out without hassle when my Zula was stolen & have always been prompt in responding to queries etc.
  7. +1 on the Mach 429 - have one (also w XT & Arch EX although mine was over 12kg not 11.7) - great bike but have now switched to Mach 429 Carbon which is even better.

Bryton Rider 30 - worked well enough to follow the route - you could quickly see if you had taken a wrong turn - but my teammate had a fancy Garmin with colour screen etc that showed the route profile so he could see when the climbs were coming up...

Yes. And make sure you know how to follow the route - I had a few exciting moments off the start line last year while I figured out how my Bryton worked...
  10. Speak to Tim at Complete Cyclist in Bryanston.
  11. Also had a problem uploading data to the Bryton website, it got sorted in a couple of days so no complaints (other than experiencing the problem in the first place)
  12. I went with Rudy Project Rydon's with prescription lenses and am very happy with them; my optometrist seemed a bit confused so my LBS ordered the lenses for me. Couldn't convince the medical aid to pay for the lenses though (can't remember exactly the reason they declined).
  13. I'll second that - have bought way too much stuff from the guys there and always been impressed.

    Remerx rims?

Hi Hubbers, I am buying a new mountain bike and the LBS has suggested custom-built wheels with Hope hubs and Remerx rims. From what I've seen on the Hub, Hope hubs + Stan's rims are a popular combo but I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with Remerx? My Googling didn't find any useful reviews or such. (My last bike had Stan's Olympics which were great but the Remerx is apparently a lot cheaper.) Comments/advice appreciated.
