  1. I see Vitality is putting a team together for this event, you can win an all expenses paid entry. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=346638883440348
  2. Hey Anton, are you still looking for people in your team?
  3. This race is a true test, proper tough. Long distance with a proper sting at the end, the worst part for me was the 10km leading up to Korfnek pass, those little bumps and gradual uphill nearly broke me. The last climb was tough but manageable, found my 4th wind by then and could ride most of it. They can work on the finish venue, was a bit underwhelming, and the cold shower was inexcusable. Otherwise a enjoyable race, will be back next year, better prepared and will aim to come in around 14hrs.
  4. I did 180km (three loops of Breedtsnek from the Total) on saturday and I must be honest I was completely wasted by the time I was done. Getting a bit worried as TD is 80kms further than that.....
  5. You all should seriously try Smoove lube, I only apply every 3-4 rides or so. It doesn't build up black residue like normal oil, and it cleans easily with the Smoove chain cleaner when you do clean your chain. This stuff has changed my life.
  6. I thought that was parr for the course on The Hub(the harmful, unsubstantiated conclusions part) My point is I become very cynical when I hear of some athlete's super human effort to win or achieve something. But then again, so what? My favorite sport is endurance offroad bikes, and I'll eat my Tech 10's if you can prove to me none of the front runners of the Dakar is doping. That won't stop me watching it though
  7. I think the odds of KE not knowing is very slim, these guys spend 5hrs+ a day together. Then you have to ask how clean is he then? Following the above presumption, you have to ask, how clean are the guys that beat them convincingly in the last Epic? (Not taking punctures into consideration, they haven't found a drug to combat those yet) This is just my opinion, but as far as pro cyclists go, you are guilty until proved innocent
  8. 20 pages of arguments over three okes having a chin wag on their early morning ride on a quiet street? no wonder i never log onto this site anymore
  9. sorry clint, those long green rugby socks with the white stripes are the business now. You'll see them on all the top riders in the peloton
  10. seriously? advice on socks? you telling me that you cannot decide for yourself what socks to wear?
  11. Hairy Sack returning on page 666?
  12. Try Giordana's as well, I have Assos and Giordana's and I'm still trying to figure out which one is better. If you find the right shop they will be in you budget aswell
  13. The tubeless system for mtb's is more effective than the offroad bike one, so would be silly to use that. Mousses is very effective on offroad bikes (like a permatube) but its heavy and hard, guys drill holes in them to soften them up for better traction. The weight doesnt matter as much on a offroad bike so they work well, I ride with them and swear by them. You can take big hits on rocks without puncturing so you ride over rocks at speed instead of around them. There's another system called tire balls, you fill the tire with inflated rubber balls. If one of them punctures the rest squeezes into its place. You can lose allot of them before it becomes unridable. Offroad guys also use enduro tubes, the tube is 5mm tick and they wrap an old tube on the outside of that so you have 5-8mm of protection from thorns. Bottom line is that on a mtb the weight of your wheels plays a HUGE factor in the energy you expend. Mousses would be perfect but I dont think the technology is there yet for something that is light and soft enough but also durable enough so they dont collapse. (offroad mousses only last for about 6 months depending how much you ride, and they cost R2500 a piece)
