  1. I see Vitality is putting a team together for this event, you can win an all expenses paid entry. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=346638883440348
  2. Hey Anton, are you still looking for people in your team?
  3. Time to move on, have you seen the new Orbea Oiz bikes? If I was in the market now, those would be pretty high up on my list.
  4. It's the first model that came out a few years ago, my wife also has the 5s (bought same time as mine) and her wrist based HRM is also crap. So if yours is better they've obviously resolved the issues. (or we just bought duds)
  5. Is it necessary for us to get the conversion before we get going? Can we wait? Should we wait? Or should we just get it over and done with? yes no no yes
  6. The Fenix 5x sapphire is a great watch, just dont buy it if the wrist based HRM is important to you. The accuracy on it is terrible and I have to wear a chest strap. I use it for MTB, road, hiking and golf. Battery life is good as well, I rode the whole of Cullinan2Tonteldoos last year, navigating all the way and had plenty of battery left at the end (13hrs)
  7. I havent rode this route for a while, this past Friday I was there a bit early, so instead of waiting I decided to start riding so long. As I crossed William Nicol (green for me) two idiots on their way to the engen blasted over the red light, almost crashed into me and then proceeded to hurl abuse at me for not having a light on the front. I then remembered why I havent ridden this for a while.
  8. I wonder how big a ball you'll get if you put all the daily discarded chewing gum of the world together?
  9. I started experimenting with nutrition when I was still racing enduro bikes, where you often have very long days in the saddle. I realised all these hi-tech foods is just a bunch of crap. In the end I dumped all the hi tech rubbish and just stuck to the basics and real food, and I felt no different. I now have a very basic formula, any rides under 1.5hrs I eat something small before hand and only drink water during the ride. Between 1.5 and 3hrs I'll have a bit bigger meal before hand and chow two bananas during the ride, still just on water. Anything over 3 hrs I'll drink an Endurashake before (lady that I know that makes these herself, great product) and eat something like salted nuts or fruitcake every hour, still just drink water. Thats been working for me for the last 10 years.
  10. The biggest benefit I find is that you can get a nice wide rim that weighs very little compared to similar alu rim. They very stiff as-well and you definitely notice it under power. Check out Csixx, they based in Cape Town and produce great wheels and some other components. Their products are trail orientated and they have a replacement warrantee. I'm 95kgs and havent been able to break one yet, so I'm pretty confident in their strength. http://www.csixx.co.za
  11. Take your gravel bike, take cedar to witkoppen, go north towards rivonia and jump onto the spruit route all the way to melville koppies. From there go past the Zoo and over the M1 by Killarney. Go through houghton and linksfield, take Civin road toward Gilloolies go under the eastern bypass and carry on past glen dower with boeing rd until you get edenvale road. Turn south and ride until you get main reef which will take you into boksburg. Use the gravel bike as some of those roads are very busy so you can jump on the curb if you have to.
  12. I've just had long discussion with someone closer to the story and all is not what it seems. Far from it and like I said earlier there are three sides to any story (really wish that one day I'll be able to hear the third) NSQUAREDZA, in retrospect, my first reply to you was emotive and childish, apologies for that. This thread was never intended for or directed towards you, I was disappointed with how Yeti handled the situation (and still am) Can I ask the moderators to either lock or delete this thread as I dont think there's any point in continuing with this as its just hearsay and speculation.
  13. Thanks for replying, to be honest I do know that there's always three sides to a story. So I'll refrain from commenting any further, as I'm not directly involved. The whole situation has left a bitter taste and I'm severely disappointed for my friend and with the brand. I'll retract any comments deemed defamatory if I'm shown to be incorrect in making them.
  14. I'll take the criticism of being emotive and one sided on the chin. Defamatory defiantly not, I know enough to know that there was a definite lack of ethics involved here and I know that I as a customer like to make buying decisions based on that.
  15. Do you honestly expect existing customers from Cyclic to just waltz over to your new business after snaking this brand away from someone you know? and to stay loyal to the brand for allowing this to happen? No thanks, I think I'll rather switch brands. I hope you dont get a 3 line email one day saying thanks and goodbuy
  16. Look I obviously don’t have all the details but from what I know Yeti couldn’t even keep supply up with the current orders from Cyclic, so not sure if targets was as issue?
  17. Haha, yeesh a bit sensitive are we? If you knew anything about the cycling industry you’d know where my comment stems from. No need for your snarky comment
  18. I think that is him being polite in his letter to his clients.
  19. Lekker and you? Hehe, do you also practice jewjitsu? Thanks, corporate ethics is a big thing for me, I consciously try and spend my money with ethical companies. Also these are dream bikes for me, I’m not in a position to just swipe a card for a R100k bike whenever I feel like it, each one took careful manouvering to get. So yeah, gutted about this.
  20. actually specialized have also bullied some small businesses, so by supporting the brand you also support the ethics.
  21. Its more than just business, if they had some integrity they would've at least given them at some advance notice, or proper reasoning Sure they carried allot of risk, but being snaked like this is not ethical. Gutted for them
  22. I am so disappointed in the Yeti brand, I don't even know where to begin, I have been a loyal fan for almost 10 years and have loved all my Yeti's. Yeti pretends to be this almost small family brand. In reality they are now a big corporation that bullies small businesses. If you ride a Yeti, know that you support a business with no ethics. After using the same distributor (Cyclic) in South Africa for more than 12 years, they have suddenly and without warning given the distribution rights to a new company. The news was broken with a 3 line email to them, saying something to the effect of: "sorry, this is business, enjoy your life". This was a small family owned bike shop which has built their whole business around the Yeti brand. This shop is now closing down and all the staff is now without work. The owner and staff have become friends of mine over the years and I'm not sure I'll even be able to ride my bike anymore, knowing what the brand really represents. If you have owned a Yeti you will know what I mean, it's not just a bike. I cannot and will not support a brand that is so callous with people's livelihoods. It's disgusting. Just to give you some background who Cyclic are, they used to be Morningside cycles, and they were one of the few bike shops that was invited, but refused to take part in the price-fixing scandal of a few years back. So there's some integrity there.
  23. This race is a true test, proper tough. Long distance with a proper sting at the end, the worst part for me was the 10km leading up to Korfnek pass, those little bumps and gradual uphill nearly broke me. The last climb was tough but manageable, found my 4th wind by then and could ride most of it. They can work on the finish venue, was a bit underwhelming, and the cold shower was inexcusable. Otherwise a enjoyable race, will be back next year, better prepared and will aim to come in around 14hrs.
