  1. Thanks for the kind words and support all.... An awesome, humbling and almost surreal event. Until next time.... (don't tell my wife!!)
  2. Race report a bit late.. but as Nick says... out now! With video...
  3. A bit late in getting back... but thanks for the support and kind words guys. Much appreciated.
  4. Thanks all for the kind comments and support. Was a great and very fortunate experience. Rob
  5. And if you have nowhere to ride them.... look whats coming to South Africa https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/154999-interview-vintage-leroica-ride-comes-to-south-africa/ Who's in? I saw they had a pretty cool stand at the Cycle Fair yesterday...
  6. A little sortie along the Mozambique coast... fishing rod and fat bike
  7. Lekker - Enjoy DEFINITELY do a tubeless conversion. Took me forever, lots of sealant, some insulation foam plus a few trips to SupaQuick's compressor - def worth it. And get the widest tyres you can. I was on 4.9's and they floated up and over almost everything.
  8. A few off my phone... others on the waterproof happy snapper at home. Best thing about fat tyres? Can make the bike stand by itself for photos!!
  9. Just spent a week riding dunes and beaches in Mozambique on my Fattie... One of Mannie Heymans 9Zero7's... Whilst I still ride it on the Spruit for fun, the beach riding was completely different... Will see if I have a photo...
  10. And to clarify - I don't think I'm above the law. I know I should follow the rules, but I value my health more.
  11. Incorrect: To me this proves you cannot rely on other road users to keep yourself alive. Options: You go through a green light, but get taken out by someone jumping the red... You stop at red light on the left hand side in yellow paint, and someone undertakes the queue of cars; or a truck turns sharp left... You slow/yield and look both ways before every intersection... red or green... and then roll through as soon as its safe to do so. In option one and two, I followed the rules, am in the right, but squashed... the other I'm wrong but arrive home in one piece.
  12. I am seriously considering this option - my frame has been damaged around the front derailleur, so removing it altogether is my thought....
  13. Had a really long day at Ironman this year... 5 years of bike hassles in 180kms.... Best be forgotten Nonetheless - this got me thinking. Why does no-one ride a 1-11 setup on a TT bike? Answers to my own questions would be: minimal weight saving (Cabling, derailleur, chainring, shifter etc...dont add up to much) Any weight saving would be reduced by having to add a chain guide Gap between gears is too large. Optimal cadence is in a very narrow range of maybe 5 rpm (not sure what Sheldon Brown says about this) My situation further compounded by running Osymmetric (not Rotor etc...) front rings. Thoughts?
  14. Having attended the Cyclists Indaba (good discussion on the Hub - not so good at the Indaba) and a few other forums/meetings/planning sessions etc... I'm interested to find out what you would like at one of these events? I'm not talking demands or laws passed, or more officials giving 45min PPT presentations on what NMT is, and why cycling is good for the environment...etc There is clearly a gap between the officials and politicians, and then the cyclists and activism groups. How do you propose we bridge this gap?
