    Berg 100 Cancelled

    Something about the Zombie Apocalypse.
  2. Just got word that the Berg 100 has been cancelled.
  3. I went there, for the first time in about 20 years, with my kids a couple of months ago. It hasn't changed in 20 years. Same tired exhibits. I was rather disappointed.
  4. Still busy with my David Bowie binge. Moved from my iPod to YouTube. try this one:
  5. If MTB is the new golf does that mean we can cut some single trail and put some golf courses to a real use?
  6. Started in A5. The race was fine until we got to the major bottle neck and then I got to have a nice 30 minute picnic. The seeding was a joke in general, not so much for me but for guys from work I entered with: One guy bought an MTB a month ago, hasn't raced in 7 years and got into A2. I passed him at about the 30km mark.
  7. The entire single trail up to Nikita is pretty close to the road. I haven't heard of any issues and I see guys riding the trail most weekends.
  8. nothing serious? Now there is true application of rule #5
  9. Had a look at their site. Must say I like the 'service package menu' approach. Nice to see what your paying for. "Wheel True - True wheel and tightening of loose spokes (per wheel) - R 75"
  10. I have a 29er rim with a bit of a kink in it. I'm not too sure how detrimental to the hub it will be if I do much riding like it is so I want to get it sorted out just in case. It should be a case of adjusting the spokes, not something I've done before and I really don't want to trash a rim figuring it out. I'm heading through to Centurion this week - where would be a good place to take the rim to get it sorted out?
  11. Yea. I dropped this one. Found myself a 2012 Scott Spark 29er pro for R15k
  12. Just mailed pictures. From the sounds of it the bike was his sons. He's after R17k for it but other than the fact that I am a bit sceptical myself ( I obviously know my bikes entire history) I've also been trying to find a reasonably priced Spark 920 or 940.
  13. Tried looking on their site. The frame looks 2013 (the rear triangle has 'Anthem X ALUXX' on it rather than "GIANT"... that seems common on the 2013) but none of them match the component level. The color scheme matches the X3
  14. Anyone know which Anthem this is? The guy selling it doesn't know !!?? Looks like a 2013 Anthem X3 frame but someone has spent a bit upgrading it: It has full XT, Avid Elixir brakes levers, Fox forks (not sure which), Rock Shox Monarch at the back. I'm also assuming the rims didn't come with the bike - C29SSMAXX. Any idea as to which Anthem it is and what a decent price on it would be?
  15. I flagged all the ads as scams. They're still there.
  16. Busy looking around for a decent bargain DS and came across a number of adverts on Junkmail and Gumtree advertising the likes of new 2012 and 2013 Scalpels. Obvious scams but thought I would mail them to push their buttons a bit. 2 different 'shops', one apparently in the UK, the other by Kimberly se gat. In response I get this whole story about paying a 50% deposit and they'll courier the bike. The one bunch supposedly based in Kimberly will courier it as soon as I pay the deposit. I say not to worry, at that price I'll drive through to pick it up. Never heard from them again The thing that gets me is that these guys are conning people out of money. Some may say that if your stupid enough to fall for it you deserve to get ripped off but it still really irritates the crap out of me that these guys operate out in the open, running an obvious scam and nothing seems to be done about it.
  17. Yea, because the last thing we would want is some n00b asking for a bit of advice. Anyway, questions like that should be posted in some form of Buyers Guide... hang on!
  18. This should be added to a "Used Bike Buyers Guide". With the cost involved and amount of torture MTB's go through you need to know that you have some form of cover. Time to give my broker a shout. I guess it also depends on who you bought the bike from. I had a derailer go through my spokes during my 45 day 'all breakage' window and the shop sorted it out for me without doing anything more than checking the PoP.
  19. Anyone had any experience covering an MTB for breakage via insurance?
  20. Just gave the guys from Scott SA a call... confirmed from their side, first purchaser only. Wheres the consumer board when you need them?
  21. Just had a look on the Scott site: There goes all my plans for my next bike. I really can't afford to pay R20k for a bike that a month later may succumb to a manufacturing fault and I'm screwed...
  22. I'm looking at a used DS at a good price. The bike is less than 1 year old but the owner says that it has no guarantee. Anyone have experience with claiming against a 2nd hand bike? There is no way I'm taking a R20k chance on a bike no matter how well priced...
  23. Also, on the note of buying a used bike: I'm shopping for one now. Buying used is the only way I could see myself riding a bike that originally cost R30k. And when I buy the used bike I'll hopefully sell my HT to help fund it.
