  1. That is not bad I picked up this baby Monday and took her for a first ride on Tuesday... DAMN! full Dura Ace 10 speed + Dura Ace pedals Easton EA90SLX with gatorskins Fizik saddle Total weight with 2 cages, computer and saddle bag(tube+2bombs and adaptor) 7.7kgs Need to get used to the gearing though as I'm very much used to the "granny gear" on the mtb FINE THANK YOU, THANKS
  2. I HATED the fact that the race venue was so flippen far from the finish line.. After all that punishment the cokes should of been waiting on the timing mats! I think that was the worst 5KM of my life!!!!!
  3. I missed a lot... I've decided to get a NEW 2013 54cm silverback strela 2 with full 105. the intention will be to use it as a donor bike as I'm getting it for a bargain . I am looking @ getting a carbon frame and doing the rebuild. Keeping my fingers crossed all goes well
  4. Quick question.. BGfit recommends that I use a 56cm road frame, How big a difference is using a 54cm frame going to be? I sat on a 52cm and that was waaaaaayyyyyy too small!
  5. Thanks for all the replies!!! I'll have look at the 2nd hand market, those links @hellocolour posted opened my eyes. I'll give myself another 2weeks to find something that tickles my fancy as I'd like to have it at least 2 weeks before argus. I've noticed that If I wait till after the argus theres always leka deals out, but I'd like to have the bike before then. I did the Burger on my 29er with knobbies on and I must say: I really did not enjoy the race! I use my 29er to train on the road yes but It'll be more comfortable for me on a road bike(All the diff hand positions). I'll shop around to see if anyone still has some 2013 stock laying around Once again Thanks guys
  6. Hey everyone I'm looking at getting me a road bike but once again the choices are so flippen much I am more into mountain biking, this will be to do the odd road event down in Cape Town. Heres the short list and pricing Scott: Speedster S20 R13999 (105) ***CR1 20 R20999(105) carbon*** No price on the CR1 30(Sora ) Merida: Scultura CF904 R18899(105 ) carbon Scultura 904 R13999(105 ) Giant: TCR C3 R15499(Tiagra) carbon TCR C2 R16899(Ultegra/105) carbon Cannondale CAAD8 6 R13499(Tiagra) CAAD8 5 R14999(105) Didn't get price on CAAD10 Specialized: Roubaix SL4 Sora R18999 - Carbon frame Allez Elite Tiagra R13999 ***Roubaix SL4 sport 105 R23999*** ***Tarmac SL4 sport 105 R23999*** ***These two are "WOULD LIKES", OVER BUDGET! What would you guys recommend? As you can see there is lots to choose and I am super confused!!!!! Do I go for the Roubaix with a crappy Sora groupset but carbon "BEES-KNEES" frame? Really liking this but the grouset is very off putting Or do I go Aluminium frame with 105 groupset with some change to do a wheel upgrade? Looking at the CAAD8 5 in this regard The Giant TCR C2 looks like flippen good value, Carbon frame with good groupset. Any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks
  7. Took them out yesterday, all I can say is WOW Weight came in @ 1600g Superstar switch evo's American Classic 101 Sapim double butted spokes Complete build with rotors, tires and tubeless, 3850g Not as loud as I expected, but it is getting louder the more I ride
  8. Just fired on a set of these... Hope to see them soon!
  9. Who has got experience with the Novatec hubs/wheels? I love the SUPERFAST engagement but it sounded so quiet while spinning in my hands. Some say its a pain to service, is this true?
  10. *HI-JACK* I'm in the process of getting a new set of wheels but there's just too much to choose from. I've looked at the following: Novatec Dragon : R5495 http://www.evobikes....9-wheelset.html Novatec Flowtrail: R5295 with tyres http://www.evobikes....9-wheelset.html Easton XC70: R4495 http://www.evobikes....r-wheelset.html American Classic : R5495 http://www.evobikes....-wheel-set.html Shimano XT 785: R4995 http://www.evobikes....r-wheelset.html ZTR's on Hopes for about R5500 I weigh 74kgs and love flowing/technical single track, not keen on big drop offs. All of the above wheels are within budget as I still need to get rotors and tyres. I want a reliable set of wheels, I've got a set of ZTR Crests on SLX hubs and they've been going strong for 11months now, no problems, did not even need to be trued. I've been thinking of just upgrading my hubs, Superstar/Hopes as I've already got the ZTR's. Problem is on the Superstars its going to cost me about R2700 and about R3700 on Hopes, that's why I thought of getting a complete new set of wheels and then sell my existing wheels. All advice welcome PS: I'd really like to be heard coming down the trail...
  11. Greatstuff! I see they're outa stock but I'll give it a try! Thank you
  12. Hi guys Compliments of the season! Is it possible to convert a SLX hub with 15mm thru axel to 9mm QR? its on the front hub Thanks a million
  13. Definitely go the route of Marvin, that Axis is one hell of a bike! Otherwise look @ silverback 2013 vida 1 or 2 both or 2014 vida 2 will fall in your budget
  14. @CraigCCW My money is on the Silverback. I've got a Vida1 and I must say its a problem free, get on and ride kind of bike. The Rockshox Reba is butter smooth and it doesn't have too much to fiddle with. The Deore brakes are Idiotproof and they just work, I did however fit resin pads to increase the stopping power a bit. The Silverback is not of the lightest frames, I ride a large, Continental protection tyres with enough stans, Ergon GP3 grips, 2 bottle cages with pedals and she weighs about 12.9kgs. One thing I'd like to upgrade is the hubs but just because I think I'll go faster when my brain thinks I'm being chased by a swarm of bees(HOPE hubs ) I don't think you're gong to get better bang for buck.. Good luck with the search
  15. Great stuff! I'll give the tabard a try Big ups to you and your team
  16. Hi guys So the last few rides in Bottelary hills has been tick free until tonight when I had one attached to each leg. Seems like they come out just after the rains! When I got home I thought it was just some mud that was out on the green loop and only once I hit the shower to shave I noticed the little bastards! I removed them with a tweezer, and made sure the heads came out too, is there anything I should rub on the bite just in case? Any tips on how to keep not just the ticks but all those damn flies away too! All help will be appreciated
  17. GREAT EVENT, awesome mix of everything! The organisers from other events NEED to go and speak to STBB on how to properly stock a water table! WOW, I couldn't help but stop 2:55 for me thank you!
  18. I'd go for the vida 1! I've got the 2013 vida1. I've got no problems, ALLES IS SIEP SAP! a bit on the heavy side but that's motivation to train harder. Mine weighs about 12.5kgs with continental protection tires+sealant, computer and 2 bottle cages. I cannot see how they can justify the sola1's price as component wise the vida and sola are identical. The sola does have a good looking frame though. Only upgrade I'd look at is upgrading the hubs, not that its needed as the hubs do their job. I've upgraded the rear derailleur to the XT shadow+ but that was just for the clutch functionality. Goodluck! the Giant has got a flippen nice frame btw..
  19. My bad, I was meant to say late afternoon. I am aware that we're not allowed to ride @ night. My apologies for the mis-understanding
